What a brilliant idea🥰 BMW are notorious with this kind of trouble. With your technique,if problem occurs again it won’t take one or couple of hours to open the door! Cheers☺️

Thank you. This just happened to our 2002 X5 . I’m hoping your solution works with my model. We have 2013 X5 as well. Massachusetts plates are on ours too. 😅☺️ Got to get it fixed before it gets too cold.

Hey everyone - i was able to unlock the door without taking anything apart. Note - you'll still have to take the door card off to replace the broken actuator but you can at least have the door open while doing it. I just removed the small plastic round trim piece that surrounds the the actual lock knob that goes up when it's unlocked and down when it's locked. Just need a screw driver or pry tool and pried it up till it popped off. After that, just use needle nose pliers to pull up the lock knob and hold it there. While holding it up, click your fob unlock button and then try the handle. If that doesn't work, then click the lock button on your key fob once and pull the handle (all while holding the lock knob up). The latter worked for me several times in a row so it's repeatable and it only took a minute or so to do --- hope that helps

What the real problem was in the end was the height of the catch. ,so I adjusted this. On the Jamb.....

Is this manually releasing the Lock or the Linkage which opens the door? Mine is not locked but the linkages broke off at mount.

do not drill hole. remove the belt molding from the inside of the car. bring window down and release the cable. We just did it with a 2007 bmw M5

Hi. Just seen this reply. I have a similar challenge with my e60. What did you use to release the cable?

do you think that if you slid a thin piece with the window down you could hit that latch?

How do u get in the car if it wont unlock? All doors will not open, from inside or out!

Is the battery in the trunk dead, use key manually

@@3ricky13 the battery is not dead...the fob died last year, have only been using the key to open the door. Called to different tow trucks to open the doors, they could not, even when pressing the central locking button using a wedge to get tool inside the car to press it. They tried everything basically. Break the car window?

@@kingjayden3840 go to the bmw dealer to make you a new key. It would be worth the money in your case.

@@3ricky13 it's actually not my car it's a friend of mine. I don't think a new key would help, its either a fuse or lock actuators. Like I said they were able get a tool inside the window to press the center locking button.

It happened again to me a month later. I still can't get it open now I drilled a hole bigger . My solution this time was buy another BMW. I did now I own three of them.

Did you insert the key inside if the key fob into the driver door side ? I just did it and the door would not unlock any other way only this way .

What about 525i is it the same as the e60
