BMW E36 Budget Track Day Car by Turner Motorsport

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video accompanies the April 2011 issue of eurotuner magazine. We took a $2300 1992 BMW 325is and added a series of performance parts to try and reduce the lap times. With better brakes, suspension, intake, exhaust, engine chip, 17" wheels and racing slicks, we were able to improve the car by 25sec per lap.
All the parts were supplied and fitted by Turner Motorsport. Professional driver Michael Marsal was at the wheel, and we used Monticello Motor Club as our race track

    Don't get me wrong, I love Turner (own a BMW tuned by them for track duty) but what I think this video really shows is how much faster a professional driver is with an old beater with a few budget mods than an inexperienced driver(s) with much faster car. As the the track-day saying goes, the best mod is the nut behind the wheel!

    +Robert Fuller yea? But the thing with this video was to show that it dont have to be costly to have fun and with that car/mods u gonna have a car that u can grove with! == good, maybe get more ppl in to racing == good for the motor sport!

    M3ntal he’s not a pro, he’s an amateur driver who raced against pro’s in professional series such as Grand Am and IMSA. He was decent for an AM driver, but not fast enough where he could make a living racing.

I'll just have to shop elsewhere. Keep the upgrade advice coming though. Your competition will appreciate it.

    Depending on the type of tracking one is doing, signaling for passing may be required. To signal with your hand, you have to have the window open. Also, in case of an accident in which the door is jammed and you need to get out of the car (fire), there's always the window.

    I did a track day and asked the same thing. I think it is partially for safety so if you crash, safety crews can easily get you out of the car. Also, the track day i did required you to give the person passing you a "point by" before they were permitted to pass you(so both people knew the pass was going to occur)

    Hey guys, man this is some awesome work. A few questions for you, 1) you did not mention, where subframe reinforcements welded onto the car when doing the suspension modifications, or was this the stock chassis? 2) Did your brake upgrades include the M3 brake booster?

    Many tracks require windows down driving in the event of an accident. It's easier to extract someone from the car in an emergency. That's fairly common.

  • @americanAlienBoy
    @americanAlienBoy10 жыл бұрын

    The real reason most clubs require you run with windows open is safety. If you're disabled as the result of a crash, corner workers will have trouble extracting you. In the series I race in, you're allowed to run windows if they can be quickly opened or removed from outside the car.

    Because he is wearing a helmet, and the car still has factory windows in it. One fast turn and his helmet hits the window, it will shatter. Also in case he flips the car so he has exits. Usually the windows will bust out, but in the event that they do not and the car catches fire, he is screwed.

    $5k fir the lot + a little over $5k for the base car. I'd spend another k on the the cooling system just in case aswell. But for just over 10 call it 15 for arguments sake, you have a great track car.

    Yup, from what i've read the "stock" engine (basically all inline6 engines) can handle about an additional 60-70HP (with the appropriate ECU, and larger injectors of course). It's risky though, success depends mostly on engine condition.. above that it's large bucks and aftermarket all the way

    325is? there is a 318is and a 320is but no such thing as a 325is, because the 320is is the italian M3 version, its just a 325i with its stock stuff. a 318is has a 4 cillinder 16 valve 140hp engine, and a normal 318 haves 8 valves, the S means an valve upgrade, and the e36 325i already haves 24 valves with his 6 cillinders. the e30 325i haves 12 valves, and 22 hp less than the e36 and that makes the difference.
