Many of us are now having issues with our e31 8 series headlining. Due to the age of the car and the design, the headlining now need of attention as they will start sagging. The reason I say the design is one of the cause is because of the pillarless design of the car and if you have been driving the car with all your windows open then the gushing of air floating around the headlining doesn't help as the roof of quite low too.
Secondly the age as well as some of them are nearly 30 years old the adhesive on the headlining is drying up and slowly getting detached from the actual headliner frame of course the wind is not helping as it might be flattering around and being loosen.
In terms of the replacing the headlining, I know many have done this themselves by purchasing the materials and the right adhesive. In my case I just removed the section and took it over to a retrimmer and managed also save a little instead of taking it to a retrimmer and getting them to take it off and putting it back together.
Please be very careful when removing the sunroof and pushing the sunroof bored back as you can easily break the clips as they are now very brittle.
