Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Complete guide for replacement of the cabin air filter.
This simple service can cost hundreds. My step by step guide will help you keep your BMW Maintenance up to date.
BMW recommend this service once every two years regardless of miles driven.
I recommend replacing the filter sooner if you live in dusty climates, hot climates or if you travel with pets often.
Tools:
8mm socket: amzn.to/3PcsWmB
T20 torx socket: amzn.to/3UFxHX0
1/4 extension: amzn.to/3Y95WJt
1/4 ratchet: amzn.to/3VQGdDA
For the 1/4 ratchet using a flex head is not necessary for this job but, comes in handy for other jobs.

This tutorial was amazing and I highly recommend. My BMW dealer wanted $347.00 to change out the air filters, so I did what any educated consumer would do and went on KZread. After a short search, I happened upon this video. He was methodical, easy to follow and precise in his simple to follow instructions. After buying the OEM BMW Filters online and watching the tutorial twice, I gave it a shot. Fifteen minutes later, I was finished and put my tools away. The hardest part was getting the bottom filter out, which took some extra effort. I have subscribed, which I recommend you as well, and the Friendly Mechanic will be my go-to before any future BMW do it yourself projects. Saved me $317.00. Really dynamite presentation. Thank you.

By far the best DIY video I've seen. Thank you!! As a side note, when I removed the old cabin filters I discovered my local BMW dealer had installed them backwards (arrow towards engine) when they replaced them 2 years ago while under maintenance warranty. So, you helped me save $150 and do it right this time.

I could see any customer taking their x1 to some mechanic for service and breaking the panels or forgot to connect the electric wire back and the customer would never know. This video is a chef’s kiss great insight and info in how to this DIY.

Excellent video for a difficult project. I had two problems: 1. Cramped space/impossible visibility. Even with a good work light, I had a hard time seeing the hinges for the filter door and the entire opening for the filters. 2. The connectors (light, speaker, cigarette lighter) were very difficult to disconnect; not at all as easy as shown in the video. I ended up taking out the whole speaker. Overall, this is a PIA project due to user-unfriendly design, which I only tackled because of this outstandingly clear video.

@friendlymechanic9778 well the filters alone were only $27.59 oem. It was listed on things needed done when I just had my oil changed, but I can't access it now. Parts alone were probably $50 then say $200 in labor. So well over $150 in savings. Oh and got an air filter too. Both parts came to $54. Saved a lot!! Would love to do breaks myself. Thanks for making this video. The lower of the 2 filters is a real pain to access/manipulate. The working condition in the front passenger foot well is extremely uncomfortable. BMW engineers are sadists having this design. My Volvo and Boxster have easier to access/replace cabin air filters by being located under the front hood. I suppose the under-hood location on other cars means they only clean first time incoming air, whereas filter in footwell means they also filter closed loop recirculating air

@@friendlymechanic9778 Thank you. We undid the side panel but couldn't find the filter. We will try again and remove the top panel as well. BMW charges $400 to change it 😳

Yes both panels need to be removed in order to gain access. The procedure is very similar.

For the most part yes. But if your car is right hand drive this will be located at the driver side

Don't mess with the driver's (left, for the US) side of the car. If you unscrew the hood release, you're in for $500 to have the cable assembly replaced.

I'll go ahead and go ahead and remove the screws, then I'll go ahead and remove the panel. When did people start going ahead and talking like this?

Oh. So the filter is on the passenger (right, in the US) side of the vehicle. Well, that little bit of information would have saved me $500. Apperently, it's on the right side. Do not remove the hood opener on the left (drivers') side of the car or you'll be in for a $500 recabling charge. Bummer.
