Arduino & servo Controlled VNT Turbo on the BMW 325tds Drift Car. Boost Limited to 1.5 Bar (for now) & the turbo is delivering almost full pressure under no load.

    hey what kind of actuator do you use? did your bmw came with fixed geometry and you replaced it with variable geometry?

    That's awesome , looking at getting a 325tds as a drifter / daily this car has been my inspiration , quick question how do you have it set up on a switch as 2 different maps ? Thanks.

    Please, could you explain why do you need a electronic controller instead of just having the vanes controlled by boost pressure directly ? I'm interested in understanding why.

    Because at crusing you don't make much boost to open the vanes and let the engine extract the exhaust gases and the vanes are closed and it's choking the engine making it work hotter and it's using more fuel than it needs to also vacuum operated vnt systems use a valve in the vacuum hose that gets a PMW signal from the ECU to tell the turbo when and how much to move the vanes it's NOT just hose from boost pipe directly in the actuator

    It's not a tps it's a motor driven linkage that moves the variable geometry

    hi mate I've done a garrett gt28r set up to my tds I've had the head Ported out and a custom made inlet but what fuel pump up running on yours is I've still got the standard pump at the moment and need to upgrade it?

    Hi could you send me a li k to the turbo you have as im curently looking for parts for my 525td and i want more boost and power seems to be verry little info in english on these cars and tuning them

    @@tomcartmell1600 hey man there isnt really an aftermarket for these engines, besides fuel upgrades. If you want more boost any larger turbo will work, i would suggest looking at the gt28r specs, and finding a turbo with a bigger compressor but but similar turbine, i like borg turbos because you can swap turbine housings and other components

    Road use would be more complicated because you dont want the turbo to boost max at al times.. This was done for track use only so implementation was fairly simple, Using a boost sensor it controls the veins to attempt to achieve maximum at all times. Boost sensor > Arduino > Servo Motor via PWM. Map on the Arduino is not linear either, it was tweaked slightly to optimise For road use you would need TPS & RPM input and create some more detailed maps to request less pressure under medium load

    Get a GT2260V, Split the hot side & re-drill the locating pin on the opposite side so oil feed can be on top to top mount the turbo.. It has to be exactly up the centre of the VNT pins Are you in any way Software programming minded or prefer mechanical control of the VNT

    I got the car for drifting. I've never done a turbo swap or mapped a car. I was going to order a chip for endtunning. But your yock seemed to have no want of power.so I don't know what to do

    Ciaran Hartin I remapped my ECU considerably, opened out the rev range ect.. I dont have any recent video's of it out on track since the remap but its a different animal since.. Then I did the turbo and it made it into a weapon again being able to provide all the air we needed right up to 6000rpm

    Switch is no longer used since I figured out the ECU how to remap them. There is no longer a rev limiter either

    I thought the ecu was read only? And how did you do the switched one anyways? Ide like to find out for future reference :)

    kieran crowe Technically not true, the chips on the ECU are EPROM's (E meaning Erasable - with UV Light) so they can be re-programmed, or replaced with EEPROM's (Electronically Eraseable) which is what I did

    kieran crowe Yep just much more agressively than most are willing to go.. Watch your EGT's! Short exhaust & no restrictions help a lot
