I was wondering why all this cars same models have different oil filter housing and caps. Mine has a 16 flutes 86.something mm cap. I bought a 86.7 inner mm wrench and it is too small and looks like has the same dimension as the filter cap itself. DO you know what size wrench this type of cap needs? Getting nuts deciding which one... Thanks

It is a good idea to start the engine and run it for a short while before you check the oil level. This ensures that the oilways and filter housing get a chance to fill up otherwise you may get a false reading.

Always use a BMW original oil filter on these cars (F30's). Other brand fail regularly. The reason is that the little protruding part on the bottom of the filter visible at 6.12 locks the filter in place so when you tighten the filter cap it puts torsion on the filter and can break it, you won't know until you do another oil change or an oil channel gets blocked by broken bits of filter. BMW oil filters have reinforcement to prevent this torsional effect. I don't work for BMW, just passing on my expensive repair experiences.

Can you comment regarding the oil filter location. The filter has a small protrusion - Does it need to line up with something when it is inserted back into the car? It doesn’t seem to matter as it spins round in the filter housing but does it need to be a certain way round when it goes back it?

Paul Chandler hi Paul, yes it definitely does have to line up inside the housing. If it does not line up and you screw it down it will bend. You will get a oil pressure warning on your dash telling you to shut down the engine. I put my filter in place first, then screw down the cover, I’ve had no issues doing it this way.

​@@mbrofc ....I agree with you Michael, I have myself done that mistake. I thought I was very careful and I put the filter in first but something happened anyway and I damaged the oil filter. The oil filter was bent and a following warning came as you describe it when I started the engine. No big deal since I could step in to the gasstation were I was doing the oil change and buy me a new filter. But it's very easy to do this wrong. And I guess it ended with some problems after shooting the video.

depends on how you drive. LL-04 is recommended. but it doesn't matter if you use LL. the important thing is that you change the oil at the right time. in this video I didn't use the LL-04 because it was sold out. but I usually use the LL-04. Thanks for your comment.

You must use LL04 or better spec (eg MB 229.51) which is low Ash otherwise your DPF will need replacement in no time. These engines have a hard enough time with the 30.000km/2 year oil changes, don't make it worse by using unsuitable oil and filters...

Is it euro6 diesel engine? I found one and it was euro6 engine from the same year. Did you change the cooling water also? Shouldnt that have a red colour?

It alines it self. Sarch mahle pin on yt. First two trun you make by hand and when you conncet filter to filter cap it has some play so it acutaly postion itself when you trun first two circles than pin slides in holem

No meu rotolo dizia ll04 recomendado para a BMW. poderá não estar mensionado no rortolo mas faça uma pisquisa no site da castrol e verifique. se é igual ao meu é de certeza long life. este óleo é 100% sintético. 5w30 nestes motores tem uma durabilidade de 30.000km. um semelhante com as mesmas características não tem qualquer problema pode e ter que o mudar mais cedo.

hi, You need replacement the cobre o'ring for drain plug. the correct procedure is you put 4 liters and then put litle by litle and check the oil dipstick. The level must be above the minimum and below the maximum.

Check the oil specs for your type of car. Can be found online. Mine 320d needs 5,2L in total. My old E46 320cd needed. 5,4L. Every type and engine has other specs.

BMW recommends Long Life 04. Not just Long life! The LL is the Volkswagen version. Castrol M is the long life 04! If there is no long life 04 to get a second option is ACEA C3. But Long Life 04 is recommended. Don't get confused by the LL.

you need 5.2L on that engine N47, on the newstest models B47 2.0 diesel you put only 5L. And also you use castrol oil..why you didn't use BMW oil?

No, there is only one position to place. when inserting the filter, it rotates until it finds the snap-in position.

@@jpinhas67 hoje em dia as marcas de óleos estão sempre a mudar as embalagens. O importante é as especificações que vem na embalagem. Existe este óleo com embalagem exatamente igual que em vez de ser c3 é c2 e se a pessoa olhar para o preço e não para as especificações compra logo o errado. O objectivo do vídeo é principalmente ajudar a mudar o óleo e o filtro. Muitas das vezes pagamos para mudar e não sabemos que óleo temos e se o filtro foi mudado realmente. Obrigado pelo teu comentário.

@@fernandomontenegroBMW Agradeço-lhe o conteúdo do video, pois está bem feito e elucidativo para quem tem duvidas. Não obstante, não queira ter razão, onde não a tem, as especificações são diferentes destes dois óleos, se reparar o C3 LL-04 até tem a norma RN710 obrigatória nos motores DCI devido ao problema das capas de biela, que o óleo do seu video não contempla. Acredito que estes pequenos pormenores sejas ignorados na maior parte das oficinas de esquina, mas quem sabe se isso não é a causa de se matarem muitos motores sem querer.

That oil was way too dark, how many miles on the clock? I also think this engine used 0W/20. Are you sure you used the right thickness?

One thing, when it stops flowing , i close the bottom, and start the the empty engine for 3-4 seconds, that give out another 300ml-350ml of oil that conserved in the oil pump. ok good. I tried using an adjustable on my friends car and it nearly shredded the plastic apart.

Mine is coming up for an oil change at just over 50k - had a major service last spring at BMW, probably wont pay them £300 for an oil change !

Engine oil after 30kkm ? Its dirty water, rip chain. I have e90 2011 with n47 184km and 5w30 but change after 8-10kmm and ~8 months. My two friend service f10 with n47 exactly the same.

What oil do you use? did you read the specifications of this oil? i use castrol Long Life C3, read the specs on the castrol website and understand why its durability. you shouldn't use just any cheap oil.

You have not correct inserted the new oil filter. It's too loose. There must be down with power and than it makes a "click" sound. I'm sorry, but my English is not good. I hope you understand what I mean.

And I think the Guy in this Video chose the wrong oil. There is no Bmw Longlife 04 reference. The right oil must be the Castrol 5w30 C3.☝️

tu veux dire 5w40, non? oui c'est possible ... 5w et 40 sont liés aux températures extérieures du démarrage et du fonctionnement du moteur. dépend des températures du pays où vous vivez. mais recommandé par la marque est le (0 ou 5) w30

Not a vey well organised DIY mechanic. Put the dirty filter in the box, use a proper box spanner on the filter head and use disposable gloves.

it is ok but if you have negative temperature in your country you should use 0w30

wrong oil, this edge is for mercedes and vw group cars. castrol Magnatec is for bmw.
