BMT Culver (9th Ave Lower Level)

* Info redaction Track C1 is to the right and C2 to the left. We posted the tracks reverse. Sorry for the mixup. (Reference) www.subways.io/9th
The team is currently proofreading our upcoming Port Washington Route Tour. In the meantime, we have a special rare treat-a short video showcasing the abandoned 9th Ave lower level, along with a view of the old ramp and tracks 27 and 28 at the 10th Ave yard. Stay tuned for the LIRR Port Washington experience. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
A view of the abandoned 9th Ave lower level via Track C3.
This level was closed in 1975 and as been out of revenue service since.
This section of line opened in 1916 and was used by both the West End line and Culver to connect to the 5th El until and later the 4th Ave subway.
Culver trains to and from Park Row used this lower level The Culver Line used to operate as a branch of the Fifth Avenue Elevated, offering a free transfer at Ninth Avenue to the West End Line, which then connected to the Fourth Avenue Subway.
Service on the lower level started on March 16, 1919.
By 1931 some peak subway service operate on the Culver using the Nassau street loop. This become normal after 5th El service ended in 1940.
In 1954, the Culver ramp was opened, connecting the IND (Independent Subway System) to the Culver Line. As a result, BMT (Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation) Culver line trains were truncated to Ditmas Avenue, operating as a full-time shuttle between Ditmas Avenue and 9th Avenue. It was in 1959 when the shuttle service between Ditmas Avenue and 9th Avenue commenced.
In 1959 a full time Culver shuttle began operating between Ditmas Ave and the platforms here at Ninth Aves lower level this service for roughly 16 years before service was ended altogether in 1975.

I used to ride the Culver occasionally and see it daily. Also the almost daily SBK freights which ran down McDonald Ave and on the original surface ROW along 37th St.

Another excellent video. Love the rare forward footage through the lower level. If I could make one suggestion about your videos though it would be to leave the info captions up longer. The appear and disappear faster than I - and I suspect most others - can read them. Thanks

That line isn't any longer. That is part of the old Culver Line before the IND came in and F'd Things up. IND was always butting in where it was not needed. If you want to see more of the older lines, those would be on celluloid film since digital did not exist back then. Ergo the presentation would be choppy since film was expensive, and none of it long enough for an entire run.

I lived on McDonald Avenue and remember the Ditmas Ave. shuttle. I never rode it, but watched videos of the line. Hope you continue the video of this route!

Nice video but u got the tracks C1 and C2 backwards. Starting from 38th st yard into the lower level 0f 9th Ave ur going south. By current B Division the track layout is Track 1-3-4-2 or 1-3/4-2. Odd numbered tracks is south and even numbers is north. So since ur on track C3 which was the south bound express to Coney Is. on culver (C1 C3/4 C2) then C1 is actually on the right(South Local) and track C2 is on the left(North Local).

We apologize for the oversight and the mistake we made. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, and we acknowledge that a redaction is necessary. Here is our reference diagram, although it didn't prove helpful for us lol. For anyone else that may want to view. www.subways.io/9th

This is why I prefer the A division (IRT). The layout is 1-2 southbound(1 being local), 3-4 northbound (4 track is local)

How do you get rid of the next video ads that pop up near the end of the end of the currently playing video? Would be nice to see the video to the very end.

I don't know... I just looked at my video, and it was not there. Perhaps those who can monetize their videos will get them. OOOO Yooob seems to stick them in at random, but since they are usually from your own channel maybe I have not enough videos for them to get anxious wiff their popups. Yes I find them annoying too buy yhay's life... U get watt you pau for.
