Thank you for the shout out and for answering this question! I have always been curious about why some collectors prefer Blythes over Pullips. I think you made excellent points. Especially about the variety.

I think you make fair points , it was interesting to hear your perspective. I have both groove family dolls and Blythe dolls. I have only two Blythes and I want to get at least one translucent girl. But on regular basis I get pullips and friends. The reason is pullip is very easy to photograph and she looks very good in all kinds of fashions. There are many options for rebodying and I feel like pullip communities are easier to chat with I feel very intimidated with Blythe collectors because I never know what will upset them or what are hot button issues. There is a huge USA market but nobody can sell them here (due to copyright issues I think). It becomes very expensive to purchase them and I get very nervous when I order them because they cost more than pullips. Blythe stocks are not very interesting or high quality. Their face is very shiny, I live in florid so I can't spray them. I agree with you that they seem more durable. But also posing is very important for me, so pullips wins that . I also am very lucky to have access very talented customizers for pullips. Like you mentioned variety is very important for me. Pullip family is wonderful for that, I have all types of dolls in different wigs and skin tones. Let's face it, getting them on Tuesday morning made a huge impact on my doll collection. In a perfect world if takara sold Blythes in USA , made optional articulated body and didn't make them from the shiniest plastic, made us a Blythe boyfriend, and empty Blythe kits I would be very very happy. The most important of all thank you very much for opening this for discussion. I can never open this subject in a Blythe group. I saw it in pullips groups but that was pullip perspective and I was curious about Blythe collector perspective.

At first, when I read the title and saw that you liked Blythe dolls more than Pullip dolls, my first thought was - I can't imagine why!!! To me, Pullip dolls are much more beautiful. But after listening to your reasons, I totally get it. Pullip dolls are mainly for display, gently posing , take a few pictures, admire their beauty and leave it at that. I have a little over 20 pullip dolls and I NEVER touch the hair. The wigs easily frizz and I like to keep my dolls looking brand new, so I display them and that's it. If someone is more visual like me, they may enjoy Pullip dolls more, but if someone wants to be more hands on with their dolls, then I definitely see where you are coming from. Great video!

Thank you, I still like Pullips, but I enjoy doing stuff with my dolls, so my Pullip collection is much smaller than my Blythe collection.

Your reasons are so compelling and make so much sense! I always admired ball-jointed dolls... when I was a little kid and hadn't seen them, I was not interested in dolls at all. I was a total tomboy! I preferred playing in the mud. I was also an autistic kid who preferred animals and spending time alone, didn't like people much, so dolls didn't appeal to me like pastel plushies of bunnies and ponies. But, as I got older and liked some human characters (ironically, I got into Pokemon not for the Pokemon themselves, but the Team Rocket trio), I finally learned to draw humans instead of just wolves and horses, etc., and through anime fandom, found about ball-jointed dolls. How poseable and beautiful they are definitely appealed to me. It's also through an anime series (GOSICK, a period drama with light romance and murder mystery elements) that first got me interested in any sort of fashion... historical and vintage-inspired (like Lolita fashion.) Which brings me back to ball-jointed dolls, because yes, like you said, there's a lot of those with 19th century fashion and the like. ^^ So, ball-jointed dolls had a combination of everything I liked! Barbies were too stiff and not very exciting, although I enjoyed my only Barbie (gifted by a coworker of my birth mother), who was an articulated gymnast! So, it's natural, I think, that when I got into dolls as an adult, it was BJDs that appealed to me, both as an artist and fan of period fashion, and as someone who preferred more active play and to be able to pose dolls more to tell a story. ^^ I might not be interested in collecting as much as just having one or two, but those are the ones that appeal to me and those are my reasons!

BJDs are amazing dolls too. We all have our own reasons for the they of dolls that appeal to us.

i was on the pullip band wagon before blythe. however, i like both equally, but differently. i feel like takara plays it safe with a lot of their releases. but sometimes groove stock dolls have very delicate stock clothes compared to takara. i do prefer getting factory blythe dolls more than takara. ive had dark rabbit hole and just wasn't as fond of a stock doll as i thought i would be

Just bought my first pullip this past weekend, waiting her to arrive home. Its a second hand doll and I'm very happy, since I know Pullips since i started collecting Blythes in 2012. But I always prefered spend my money on Blythes. Love Blythe faces over Pullip faces, its more childish. Now i've found the perfect opportunity to buy my first Pullip.

I'm a Pullip doll fan, but recently bought my first Takara Blythe doll in November 2017. The doll hobby in general can be very expensive, so I'm happy owning one Blythe doll for now. I have over several Groove and Pullip dolls, so I'm trying to limit my purchases for now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts (:

so I can see that. I personally love realism in my dolls, and such and i love to craft, so when i saw people crafting realism into the blythe dolls, i ended up finding a mini petite and got her with the cu-poche alice friends body and changed her eyes and everything. As for the faces of both the pullip and the blythe, the blythe's face looks more rounded and less like a girl until customization happens, whereas the pullip's face has more realism in it, but i do want to stick with the blythe because i love to customise....Barbie was my thing when i was younger, and i grew up drawing portraits of people, so faces and creating unique faces is a big thing for me :) im honestly excited to be joining a large community of women (and men, depending) who love collecting and editing faces as well ^-^ Thank you for this wonderful video! i didnt know their hair was so fragile with its styling. would it hold better with hairspray though?

Blythe holds my heart, however Pullip and friends found their way into my home and I'm glad to have them. Their stock is more than 100% better than Blythe. I agree they are more durable, and when placed on an Azone Pure Neemo body Blythe can have a lot more poses.

Hello Tammy! First time commenting here on your channel (I added you on Etsy where I go by the name Yulia, thanks for adding me back). I'm also in the Blythe camp although I have an Isul (Pullip's little bro). I agree with all the points you made; I mainly love Blythe dolls for their eye-changing mechanism! I think it's really cool & gives them somewhat a fresh look, in a way! :) P.S. Love your vids & do keep them coming~

Hi! I love them both. But I agree on the playability. Therefor I bought only Pullip dolls with straight hair. I own one Blythe, but a new friend for her is on her way. I bought the new Blythe seeking apelles ☺

That's a good idea about the straight hair. At least with my Romantic Alice her hair is so crazy it can't really get messed up, but their bodies are kind of fragile to me. Seeking Appelles is a cute doll, congrats !

Totally agree with you! I started off with pullips but their lack of playability makes me leave them on the shelf. Definitely her limbs are more prone to breaking and they have this uncomfortable squeak trying to make them sit. Since blythes were made for children to begin with i love their durability!

Thank you for your information! Im waiting to recieve my first sort of Pullip.... its Mio kit from 2016 i think but i got the mocha so i can make her a gypsy dancer because i want to make a Vardo her size inside and out ..... I have been looking at blythe also.... again just the fakies because i dont think i am a doll collector persay.... i am a decorator and clothing maker and love to make dioramas so the dolls i get are to fit that!! I have reborns and silicones and love this pullip cooming because she is poseable and dainty, but the blythe is more fun to create characters for Roomboxes. but now i have seen BJDs and the Smart Dolls omgosh a couple smartys i want but wont spent that amount until thew kids are out of the house! So to sum it up i love the dolls and at 52 still get excited about whats out there but i think im not a true collector..... im a true decorator.....designer.....crafter.... props and displays... idk what i am i just know Dolls are a part of it and i love them all!!!

I have never been a huge fan of pullip, even though they're gorgeous dolls. It's something abut their face, maybe the anime look that is just not to my taste. Blythe on the other hand has perfect a balance of cute and peculiar for me :) Also for Monster High and Ever After High dolls - I prefer EAH for the more natural bodies and skin/hair colors and the adorable round faces :D

  • @TammyPowley

I almost went down the EAH road. I bought a few & sold one and kept one, and then I stopped buying because I just felt like I wanted to focus on 1 type of doll. Not that I've done that successfully!
