The reason the AC240 seems compromised versus the AC200L is almost entirely because of the IP65 water resistance of the AC240. To prevent the ingress of water, and to do thermal management, mainly getting the heat out, the AC240 undoubtedly is a box-in-a-box design with the inner box sealed against water, with heat sink(s) on it's outside, encapsulated in the outer box with ventilation holes and watertight fan(s).

Hi Hobotech, i bought the ac200L and the bluetti pv420 that i just received yesterday. I didn’t even had the time and weather to test it. But i am certain it is very good. I like very much the ac200L, good capacity, good solar input, ups modes, wifi bluetooth, look small and solid but heavy of course with 2k lfpo4 battery, expandable with two b210 and useable with a transfer switch as home backup 120v. Good in the rv with the TT-30.. fast to recharge at 12amps standard. i think it is the best overall 2k solar generator today.

What a really great review. I really like the visual of the Sine wave tips being flattened as the load increased! So, I was initially pretty impressed with this IP65 Water Resistant Power Station. But there are some oddities such as the higher parasitic drain, solar voltage cap being 60v and I am also a little disappointed that it isn't getting the 90% storage mark. It would be an improvement to be able to parallel the device to get 240 vac. Price point ($/kWh) will be something to watch.

I think it's a similar size to the Swapsolar, which has similar performance, but interchangeable batteries, but not the IP rating. Don't know why they couldn't have put both feature sets in one unit, myself. In some ways the AC200L is a slight downgrade (or, at least not an upgrade) to the AC200Max. I wonder if there will be an AC200Plus or something.

AC240 AC/DC charger is internal instead of external. The AC200p external charge adapter is bigger than an xbox 360 power adapter, has two not super quiet fans and did not hook on or stow easily. It charged the unit at ~500W in just over 2hrs which was impressive. The AC240 is currently plugged and charging at ~800W and I can't hear anything. The AC200p could be expanded but required the BLUETTI DC Charging Enhancer (D050S). You could have made an DIY connection to battery terminals and XT90 connector. But it looks like the AC240 has a lot more options for expansion, and parallel stuff. All of this stuff is IP65 rated, I'm sure it required more space to seal whatever could not handle splash and ocean breeze. Lost my AC200p in a tragic boating accident after many many months of flawless performance. Bought the AC240 to replace it. Time will tell whether I should have gotten the AC200Max instead.

Great review. I have the 200L. I discovered that in the advanced charging mode if you set the charging say to 4 amps it will limited the charging. That might be where you mentioned that there was no difference between charging in the silent mode vs the standard mode. Set the charging value to the higher or default mode and the see if there is a difference between the silent mode vs the standard mode.

Thanks for another excellent overview, Tom. I took delivery of an AC200L recently and I have no regrets. I'm interested in knowing more about those B210 expansion batteries and that upcoming 48V DC interface. The AC240 has a couple of things I wish the 200L had, such as the ability to change key settings without a smart phone or tablet, and the weather-proofing is admirable. But I'm puzzled by the inclusion of the meager 60V MPPT circuit on the 240. And, yes, I hope we'll see right angle connectors coming from Bluetti sooner than later.

First off, thank you for the video and review, you are definitely a go to source for in-depth reviews and in my opinion the best set if bench tests for these portable generators. 240 volts is disappointing, but not incredibly surprising. Something I experienced with the AC300. Our input load was within 20W of our output load(we manually lowered the charging input to 5A because we were popping a shared breaker), ~500W. We noticed that the device was constantly switching back and forth between battery and passthrough as the draw fluctuated. Eventually all our devices lost power just long enough to reboot. We addressed this by either charging well above draw or well below draw which alleviated and power cycling of equipment. Would you be willing to perform a similar test this with the AC240? Yessss! 90 degree bends. Someone please make an adapter for us!

Great review as always. I am underwhelmed by the specs on the AC240 compared to the AC200L. It’s 10lbs heavier, physically bigger with a smaller battery and only 60v on solar input. Also the lack of 240v as an option when using two units is disappointing. I’ve recently seen inverter generators that can now be paralleled OR series to give either 120v or 240v split phase. That option would be nice on these type of units. Thanks for a great review.

Yes, I have had 240 volt AC in a split phase hub for 2 years using Renogy 1000s. You have to have 2 units, each 1500 watts out and 998 WH capacity, connected to either a split phase hub (240) or a Single phase hub (120). They have performed as needed for my well pump. No one else seems to have anything close at that size and price point. I spent less than $1600 for the 2 units and the 2 hubs.

I’ve been waiting for them to release a water resistant version of the 180 or 200 series for a while now, we do all our tests on a sailboat on the ocean so it makes perfect sense for the environment.. but like you I wonder why the 240 has increased in size and weight when most other manufacturers are becoming more compact and lighter weight, especially for only 1.5kwh capacity. I was hoping to see something more around an expanded AC180 at 1.5kwh keeping to about 45lbs in the same form factor with matching.expansion batteries, but I guess that’s not in the cards yet.. oh well, I look forward to possibly testing a 240 in the near future and see how it handles being sprayed with saltwater! 😊

Excellent presentation. Thank you. I am troubled by those idle consumptions. Especially on the DC side. So on the 12v side, 16 watts/hour (over an amp) with no load. I wonder how bad that that gets under a 12v load? Wow. I am guessing that the 12v is a regulated output. Might be better off just having 1-2 standard 100ah 12v lithium batteries and running stuff directly off those.

I bought the ac200L it is very good. I just received yesterday my pv420. I didn’t have the time to test the solar panel yet. But i like very much the ac200L. It is heavy but it has good capacity, good solar input, efficient at idle and in ac and dc mode, 20A outlet, 2400w 30A tt-30, very good screen with timer. Looks pro and solid. My wife and i like it a lot. And it is extremely silent. It don’t display low wattage though. My jackery 1000 is more adequate dor low wattage and inflate my tires with my air compressor and run the fridge 12v and charge low wattage as i can see precisely the input/output. But the ac200L is perfect for the kitchen and house backup to run all big appliances. I would’nt move it around. I simply can’t except by putting it on a tray but even with that you need to handle the stairs and i cannot. I am not strong enough so we were two to move it.

Please do some research on RV 50 amp outlets. They use a NEMA 14-50R. This design is correct for RVs. They use two legs of 120V 50amps to supply two sides of the power distrobution panel with 120V. Anything at 240V would fry an RV. The design is correct.

Prof, I just received my Bluetti AC180 and was going through the paperwork. I noticed that the 5 year warranty only applies to products purchased directly from the Bluetti website. Purchases from third parties only get a 2 year warranty. I purchased mine from Amazon on a lightning deal for $520, but that only gets me a 24 month warranty even though Bluetti provided the product and the shipping. The paperwork also noted that I can apply for a "VIP" warranty to extend it. This is definitely worth mentioning in your Bluetti videos.

dont think very many 50 amp rv's are running any 240 appliances /ac unless its custom built my understanding is that rv's that run a 50 amp service the load is just divided / split between the 120 poles like if a rv has 2 rooftop ac units one would be on one leg/pole and the other one is on the other side so it's combined in the plug yes but not ment to be combined to make 240 atleast not in 50 amp camper plug
