    Thanks. When I'm home, if you're interested, I'll put up a chart from a different tune that uses the same chord sequence. It's from a live Chet Baker recording, wrongly titled as Resonant Emotions (a different tune altogether) it has a nice bop feel.

    I know it's only 2 beats, but could the Em7b5 also be seen as a Gm6 enabling use of the m6dim scale?

    @@RexLancasterthat question comes up with chris -he says stuff like “it depends what the accompanying player is doing” or “see if it sounds good” but ultimately barry always plays the dom scale associated with it if u think of it as a C9 and he uses min6thdim scale to solo on tonic or pure minors mostly is my understanding-especially if u have a couple bars of a minor chord… but loop it and try-i mean its gonna be like playing the ii on the V but with the added notes of Gm6dim scale not found in Gdorian-but as far as i know ow barry doesn’t do that according to chris

    hey, thanks for watching. I think you’re talking about the kind of worn out. Looking faded black one not the one in the beginning the one later in the video that has turquoise snaps yeah that’s that’s a lucky brand shirt back when lucky made really good stuff in the 90s when they were more of a boutique brand before they became a mass mall brand. I have a few others. You’ll probably see one in particular that I don’t wear very often because I’m afraid it’s gonna wear out it’s a really cool western shirt too- it has a corduroy yolk, and it also has turquoise with gold surround buttons anyways you got good taste brother.

    Awesome lesson, and instant subscribe. One question - when you keep referring to "Barry Harris' scales" or "these are Barry's scales to play over this" are you referring to a book somewhere or some other media? IOW, can you point me to the original source? Been trying to unlock this tune for years! Thank you!

  • @jeremyversusjazz

    thnx for watching! and subbing! well, my original source was Chris Parks’ @thingivelearnedfrombarryharris channel and still is. However, an online jazz school called @openstudio tapped him to teach their guitar curriculum-specifically for his Barry Harris expertise. So while he may have BFA covered on his channel - you should look there first- we are working on blues for Alice in class right now so i literally shared the scale outline he taught us. I study with Chris five days a week live one hour classroom sessions on zoom and it’s pretty overwhelming the amount of information that he has stored up in his gigantic berry Harris filled brain.

    Jez, (may I call you Jez, it’s a Brit thing for Jeremy), finally someone who thinks about guitar improv like me!!! Fe@k tab!! Call the change and give me an outside scale/sound (and why it works!)! awesome work! PS, we know how long it took you, you wore 12 outfits and 36 guitars! 😂 Subbed ten times! Chris.

    I was going to Lear blues for Alice. I only have the real book and it kind of sucks. It had me playing an A-7 instead of an F-7 on the wave song by Tom Jobin. This was a cool video. Alway cool to see what you up to. I learned all this just have to learn the tune. Not what you’re teach but the Barry land stuff. Lol

    not to be rude, but this seems like a lot of fuss over music people ask the two piece to turn down at a semi-fancy restaurant.

  • @jeremyversusjazz

    @jeremyversusjazz

    27 күн бұрын

    whats the “two piece?” also, it’s a free country brother and i appreciate your opinion and thanks for taking the time to post a comment. I didn’t find it rude. I don’t like jazz all the time or id be a lot better at it. It can get really self-indulgent. But i do dig barry harris’ concept cuz he balks at a lot of music school rules and his scale outlines for tunes help me enjoy the struggle of improvising more. 👊

    Hi. thnx for taking the time to comment. If you’re saying my playing of “that piece” ie the head to Blues for Alice, “sounds like shit” then i agree! i think i was out of tune which is why i cut it abruptly and joked about it. If you’re saying that the peace in general, including Charlie Parker‘s original version and anyone else who plays a version of it sounds like shit because he just don’t like the piece then I disagree, but you are, of course entitled to your opinion. It is a free country and I appreciate all comments, thanks again for watching!
