Hello Everyone, Thanks for tuning into Appalachian Anarchy! We appreciate all the feedback and love, but I want to address a few comments labeling our music as AI-generated. I'm the songwriter behind our tunes, very much human, and here to share our story. Appalachian Anarchy began as a recording project. When "Banjo Bloodbath" took off unexpectedly, we sped up releasing our music, which has been both thrilling and chaotic. Our goal shifted from a slow release to sharing our entire album, crafted over nine months, as quickly as possible due to your overwhelming support. Not all of us are keen on being internet personalities; our focus is the music. In the digital age, where fame is often sought after, it’s hard to believe, but some of us prefer staying out of the spotlight. For full transparency, I use a MIDI guitar for complex sections and other instruments whenever possible. As a classically trained guitarist who plays multiple instruments, I strive to capture the sounds in our heads, sometimes at odd hours next to a sleeping baby’s room, using both traditional and digital means. This mix allows us to create without the resources of a professional studio. We dream of doing this full-time someday, but for now, we balance our music with jobs and families. Thank you for being part of our journey, and I hope this clarifies our approach. We’d love to hear your thoughts and hope you continue enjoying our music! Cheers, Appalachian Anarchy

Found you guys like 3 days ago and I love everything about it! You did exactly what me and my dad always wanted to do but we wanted to throw some Celtic sound in as well. Still looking for a "cheap" set of bagpipes and a herdy gurdy.
@AppalachianAnarchy
Ай бұрын
That is awesome! Thanks! So... we tried bagpipes out (my friend has a set); unfortunately, it really throws everything off tuning-wise. We learned that bagpipes are tuned anywhere from A= 470hz to 480hz; and everything else we use sits best at A=440 (standard). The bagpipes can't be tuned differently, they just are what they are... so we tried tuning everything else to the bagpipes but everything felt super sharp. We might try again, or figure out an alternate method - because if it worked, it would be SWEEEEEEET.

I've always enjoyed folk metal from other countries, but never really stopped to listen to examples from my own. (Mostly because we didn't have that many, and those we did have were not very good in my opinion). Lately I've taken an interest in banjos specifically and was a little shocked at how popular it is in foreign countries. I feel like playing music again now, i think I'll learn this mystical banjo.

Really cool stuff, I just have a criticism that I think is important. I think the titling, packaging, and spacing of the songs should be changed. First the titling and packaging, The title of your releases makes it look like its a low quality NCS thing. Adding the genre to the title isn't bad inherently since bands like Parasite Inc do it, but you should stick to a consistent wording such as "Appalachian BlueGrass Metal"or since your from the Salt Lake region brand it to “Salt Lake BlueGrass Metal”. Next when you release stuff in compilation formate like this video I think it would help to brand it as an EP with an EP title instead of “Bluegrass metal high energy mix out law country punk” as it's wordy and again circles back to the NCS look which is not really good for bands. And for the video itself I'd remove the soundbar and replace it with the tracks and their position numbers and time stamps + highlight the one that's currently playing. Next thing is the rate yall release stuff. Now it does set off AI in people's heads, though I know that's not true. Just as an example the band Citizen Soldier releases lots of musics that's been recorded from the span of a year or two and they upload frequently, though they release one song every fortnight (2 weeks) so there is spacing and hype being built around the next one without having people wait long, it also prevents people from thinking AI is involved. When releasing compilation videos I'd try and space at least for every 5-6 releases so it gives them about a 2 month gap and helps kill off AI minded people. Use that 2 week and 2 month period to push the newly released song so they don't get drowned out by the constant upload of new songs. I really enjoy your band's work and I hope you don't find this as a hate comment, I want to see you succeed, it just needs better marketing.
@AppalachianAnarchy

THANKS! This is all excellent advice (and we NEED it!). We super-appreciate this. Yeah, we had been working on a bunch of music for a good while - then when we put out the 1st song (expecting nobody to see it or care), it boomed pretty decently. So my mindset has just been to get the back-logged material out quickly for people to find. But, that's all out or scheduled now, so the release rate will be more slow and deliberate from now on! I think your 2 week / 2 month advice is gold! The titling advice makes sense too - and honestly, we have friends that suggested that format, but what you're talking about is EXACTLY the sort of channel they run. So yeah, I think you're right that a band probably benefits from less wordy and less click-baity titles. I'll do some changes on that over the next few days. And I'll talk with our branding/marketing/video dude about the packaging... I'm not sure what can be done about the visualizer videos he's already made - but I'm sure we can adjust moving forward. YOU ROCK! Thank you again for taking the time to write (and in paragraph-form so I can actually understand it, hahahahaha - I'm not really an internet guru, in case you couldn't tell)

Amen! I don't think they realize how much that statement stings... "hey, you know that art you spent countless hours writing, tracking, editing, mixing, and mastering?... yeah, that sounds like AI did that at the push of a button." Ouch! Anyway, ROCK ON!
Congratulations! You introduced a lot of new people to bluegrass. However, the most metal thing about this is the artwork--which is great. The music is pure bluegrass with terrible programmed drums. Where is the distortion? As a lover of both bluegrass and metal (last show I went to was a bluegrass festival, next is Cattle Decapitation), I can say this is not really metal. I've been dreaming of an electric bluegrass band playing traditional instruments with distortion for years--Shards of Grass anyone? There are acts out there (Billy Strings, Greensky Bluegrass) who are using effects to better effect (lol) than this. Again, where is the distortion? Adding drums to bluegrass does not make it metal. It's not bad by any means, it's just not that metal.

Hey Samuel, Thanks for dropping us some feedback! We really appreciate hearing from folks who love both bluegrass and metal-sounds like you've got great taste! We get where you're coming from about the metal vibes. Here's a bit of our backstory: We're just a couple of family guys who decided to make some music for fun. We were as surprised as anyone when our first song took off so quickly. It's been a wild ride, and we're enjoying every minute of it. We’re working with what we've got, which isn't much-just some basic equipment and whatever time we can find between family and work. We're with a super small label that helps with things like artwork but, honestly, we're not your typical band setup. Loved your references, we checked them out-got us thinking for sure! We're open to experimenting with more distortion and effects down the line for sure! Happy to try anything and everything! Thanks again for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts. We hope our upcoming tracks will vibe more with your idea of what bluegrass metal can be. Rock on! Appalachian Anarchy

No sir. We've been asked a few times on here, and I've been really surprised! I think what it is, is some of the fiddle and banjo parts were played on a MIDI guitar (I'm just more comfortable on guitar than fiddle or banjo) - and I think hearing those patches throws off the "AI alarm" in some people's heads. But yeah, we've put a lot of work into these tunes - and we're really proud with how they've turned out! We'll keep workin' and tryin' to make um better and better going forward too, brother. Rock on!
