There are many place where one can learn cool licks. But this is hands down the best lesson I have ever seen on improvisation. This isn't just memorization. This is unlocking your own potential to invent your own licks. PRICELESS!

"Practice with a present mind. Take stock of the licks that work and the licks that don't." Very sage advice for everything, especially Bluegrass Guitar. Thank you, Marcel.

If you are looking for someone to fill in the gaps in your knowledge and really accelerate your learning, Marcel is the guy. He is the absolute best I have found at explaining things and matching the lesson to what you need to learn. I signed up for lessons several months ago and I am totally sold on the value. Good luck, everyone!

I like the way you show possibility instead of specific ways to pick assortment of notes. Soon, when I get things together we will spend time on line. An easy going nature goes far when the student hated going to school.

This is the first of your videos I’ve seen and I have to say that while there are plenty of great guitarists on youtube purporting to be teaching, your focused and methodical approach to teaching is one of the best I’ve come across. Very well structured and accessible. Well done Marcel, I look forward to more. cheers, Ian

Nice work master! I really appreciate the way you have broken things down and given very clear instructions for the excercises at different levels. It may save you having to remind me in lessons....maybe! I was a committed DIY learner but am a Skype lesson convert. There really isn’t any substitute for having someone (who knows their stuff) work with you and give feedback, specific advice and encouragement. Marcel is great at that stuff! It’s really difficult to be your own teacher in uncharted territory! You don’t know what you don’t know! P.S. I’m not sure how I missed the poll but I probably would have voted for this anyway : )

Thank you for sharing all this with us 🤙 I’ve been playing guitar for a long time but am just starting my bluegrass and flat picking journey. This helps so much just with the mindset of it. Bluegrass and picking every note is surprisingly challenging because I’ve gotten so used to hammer on and pull offs playing in many jam bands and just playing a lot of scales that way. New subscriber!!!

Turns out, learning new things is hard. I've come along way in the last year or so and even further since I discovered your channel 3 months ago. Some advice for frustrated beginners. If you can set aside 20-30 minutes a day to actual practice (not just playing the songs you know but intentionaly making yourself uncomfortable, trying the stuff you don't know how to do) you'll see noticable improvement every single week. I've personally found it very rewarding. Can't wait to see what I can do in another years time

Hmmm, 1 minute of talk, then an ad...already lost my attention, then more talk, no guitar until after 2 minute mark, et' see 4 minutes in and still nothing bluegrass-specific like the title says...just a G pentatonic scale...4:40 in and literally no lesson at all...this is wayyy longer than most people are willing to wait...and this is where I leave. I'm willing to pay good money for guitar lessons but I don't think this guy can even play the guitar.

Wow! Revelatory. Fun. I was so close, yet so far away. I love how I can change chords by simply landing the lick on a tone from the next chord. And 'softening the blow.' But I think that the 1234/1234/1234/G was the most valuable tip. Why isn't this exercise taught by all BG guitar instructors? Thank you, Marcel!
