This is absolutely one of the top music channels on all of the net. This lesson is wonderful. Doesnt matter Ive been playing 45 years- you totally schooled my ass today!!
There are many place where one can learn cool licks. But this is hands down the best lesson I have ever seen on improvisation. This isn't just memorization. This is unlocking your own potential to invent your own licks. PRICELESS!
You are a hidden gem on guitar youtube, keep it up
"Practice with a present mind. Take stock of the licks that work and the licks that don't." Very sage advice for everything, especially Bluegrass Guitar. Thank you, Marcel.
If you are looking for someone to fill in the gaps in your knowledge and really accelerate your learning, Marcel is the guy. He is the absolute best I have found at explaining things and matching the lesson to what you need to learn. I signed up for lessons several months ago and I am totally sold on the value. Good luck, everyone!
I loved the "G" at 9:40. Gave me chills. Wait for it... wait for it.... everything is gonna be alight.... rest easy and fear not.... "G"
"do as your master commands you" lolllll
Never have I felt more personally called out than the "I bet you're playing both notes of the same string everytime" line for the pentatonic scale. Great video!

Haha, yes, me too!
This is probably one of the most useful vids I've ever found. You the man!
Best guitar lesson on KZread. Explains the musical logic behind things.
Hey Marcel - greetings from Ireland, this is the first lesson I’ve looked at of yours - marvelous, fun, informative - wow I wish there were more teachers like you outside the US. Brilliant pedagogy- thank you for your inspiration!
I like the way you show possibility instead of specific ways to pick assortment of notes. Soon, when I get things together we will spend time on line. An easy going nature goes far when the student hated going to school.
This is the first of your videos I’ve seen and I have to say that while there are plenty of great guitarists on youtube purporting to be teaching, your focused and methodical approach to teaching is one of the best I’ve come across. Very well structured and accessible. Well done Marcel, I look forward to more. cheers, Ian
I have taken two Skype lessons from Marcel and he is a superb teacher. He is really helping me fill in the substantial gaps in my knowledge that I have gained by self-teaching. If you want to find a quick way to improve to the next level, he is your guy. Thanks, Marcel!!
ever since I have learned the never ending continous 1/8th lines - note exercise, I look forward to this everyday. Using Strum Machine I start at about 55 BPM and continue about 30 cycles ...so much fun ... AND most importantly I feel a lot more confident in jams now. Thank you Marcel!
Awesome video Marcel, super well put together. So far, hands down the best youtube video ( as far as music lessons go) i've stumbled upon. Im going to investigate your skype lessons!
Been playing for 25 years. Many teachers. This channel got me excited again. Rad channel!!
Quite simply, excellent! Amazing how much valuable information you manage to impart in a short time. Thank you and best wishes for you and your project.
The most meaningful, sensible, structured approach to bluegrass improv (or any improv) I have ever heard.
Thank you for all the content Marcel!
I just started watching your channel and I'm just speechless. You're such a great teacher AND you are incredibly funny.
Marcel, I am so glad I found your channel. Super lessons delivered in an engaging and humorous way. 👍
Great stuff man! Appreciate it! Great playing, quality of content, and most importantly the right attitude!
It was Zakk Wylde that got me into this playing, struggled for a long time finding tutorials - You have my subscription!
Thank you for helping all us beginners, Marcel!
Bro I hope you read this because I truly mean what I’m about to say! You’re the first person I’ve come across on KZread that really digs into and explains “well” what soloing really is! You show the scales and how they are used! I really appreciate your videos man! Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you Marcel for taking the time xx Much love!
Thank you so much, this has been the most helpful bluegrass video I have found.
Wow! What a concise and yet open-ended instructional approach! A natural gift for imparting knowledge. Ty.
Thank you - just what I needed - lots of right hand lessons - great to have something on left hand and more selection.
AWESOME! SOOO MUCH INFORMATION, CLEARLY, CLEANLY PRESENTED! THANK YOU!
Nice work master! I really appreciate the way you have broken things down and given very clear instructions for the excercises at different levels. It may save you having to remind me in lessons....maybe! I was a committed DIY learner but am a Skype lesson convert. There really isn’t any substitute for having someone (who knows their stuff) work with you and give feedback, specific advice and encouragement. Marcel is great at that stuff! It’s really difficult to be your own teacher in uncharted territory! You don’t know what you don’t know! P.S. I’m not sure how I missed the poll but I probably would have voted for this anyway : )
Love this, been looking for this kind of stuff for years.....
Watching your videos always inspire me to play. Thank you so much for what you do
The first 5 minutes of this video was very helpful for me to start my flat picking journey. I will be practicing these exercises. Thanks!
Thank you for the excellent pieces of advice!
I really appreciate what you do. You’re very clear and make difficult concepts makes sense. Now I just need to discipline myself to try some of the things you have offered. Thank you so much for your efforts!
So many good basic concepts to work on to start improvising. Thanks Marcel.
Thank you very much! I‘m a Beginner. And your Excercises are brilliant!
Amazing lesson man, thanks for taking the time and energy to put this together. 🤘
Great video on practical exercises for bluegrass improv. Thanks Marcel
This cleared up a lot, thank you.
I really enjoyed this. Thanks!
This was awesome. I've been wanting to get into bluegrass but was intimidated by the fast improvisation, but you laid out very clearly how to get started. Thanks!
Your such a great teacher!!!! Thanks man!
Great stuff - very clear teaching, useful material. Thank you!
That was really cimprehensive. Bluegrass is my jam and this is the first video with a reasonable intro to improvising on the genre, appreciate it!
I just found this channel today. Amazing content. You have earned a new sub. Keep it up!!
Awesome! Thank you so much.
New guitar? Great stuff. My second go 'round. More to come.
Your love for bluegrass really shines through. Great lesson! I'm off to try it now. :)

Hey Grady! You're one of the originals now man. I barely had my website up when I was teaching you. Email me sometime.
this lesson helped break things down very well. thanks
Thank you for sharing all this with us 🤙 I’ve been playing guitar for a long time but am just starting my bluegrass and flat picking journey. This helps so much just with the mindset of it. Bluegrass and picking every note is surprisingly challenging because I’ve gotten so used to hammer on and pull offs playing in many jam bands and just playing a lot of scales that way. New subscriber!!!
Awesome lesson! You are a very good teacher, player and quite funny as well! Keep it up, and thank you!
Your video is very helpful !! Thank you !
Thanks Marcel!
I've watched this video 15 times and I play something new every time 😄
Hey...! That was a really nice lesson that I found by accident. You are a great teacher. Your explanation of this concept just clicked with me. Thanks 👍🏼
Really sensational stuff here!
This was such a great video it convinced me to sign up for lessons. I’ll see you soon Marcel!

Where’ve you been all my life?? You’ve earned a new subscriber !!
Brilliant, subscribed.
Bravo!!!
Turns out, learning new things is hard. I've come along way in the last year or so and even further since I discovered your channel 3 months ago. Some advice for frustrated beginners. If you can set aside 20-30 minutes a day to actual practice (not just playing the songs you know but intentionaly making yourself uncomfortable, trying the stuff you don't know how to do) you'll see noticable improvement every single week. I've personally found it very rewarding. Can't wait to see what I can do in another years time

Very clear lesson; supportive language; nice going. Excellent teaching skills.
Man I used to have one of those DC auras you have in the background and I regret selling every day. Just an incredible instrument.
Humbled me quick! Lol in a good way! Thanks for amazing lesson
Thanks!
I love your channel. Been playing for years. Getting away from the strat and trying to learn these bluegrass slappers

"...for now.". ROTF ..well played, Marcel !
the way u teach is great dude 🚀 keep it up
awesome lesson! thank you
Very helpful thanks!
Really great instruction! Thank you
my dear Marcel, if i were capable of: "training myself to make reasonable, accessible and smart choices," i likely wouldn't still need to watch instructional videos about playing guitar this late in life. then again, no way that life would have been as fun and interesting as mine has been!
Really great instruction! 🎸 🤠👍
Excellent lesson!
Awesome lesson, you are great at distilling a large amount of information into digestible quantities and applicable exercises. Thank you.

Hmmm, 1 minute of talk, then an ad...already lost my attention, then more talk, no guitar until after 2 minute mark, et' see 4 minutes in and still nothing bluegrass-specific like the title says...just a G pentatonic scale...4:40 in and literally no lesson at all...this is wayyy longer than most people are willing to wait...and this is where I leave. I'm willing to pay good money for guitar lessons but I don't think this guy can even play the guitar.
Awesome
Good stuff!!
Hot country guitar playing ( electric or acoustic) has always been a mysteriously unattainable land feature up ahead that I really, really, want to get to. Maybe now with your non scary teaching style, I'll finally achieve the fame and adulation of millions! And not suck at country guitar playing anymore, I love you man!!😭😭😭🤠
hella legend nice lesson
Really a great approach teaching that stuff - inspiring and fun. Thx Marcel
Very good Marcel. ( from BC fan )
You've changed me forever.
great!
Wow! Revelatory. Fun. I was so close, yet so far away. I love how I can change chords by simply landing the lick on a tone from the next chord. And 'softening the blow.' But I think that the 1234/1234/1234/G was the most valuable tip. Why isn't this exercise taught by all BG guitar instructors? Thank you, Marcel!
