After July 15, 2016, 209 military students were sentenced to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment for their involvement in the coup attempt and have been in detention for 6 years. Thousands of others were subjected to terrorism investigations based on baseless allegations and were arrested.
On July 15th, Military Students who thought they were going on an exercise with the order of their commanders "Get on the bus!" suddenly found themselves in the middle of the events. Despite the attacks and lynch attempts against them, they did not harm anyone and all of them had clean ballistic reports. Murat Tekin and Ragıp Enes Katran, two of our friends, were lynched and martyred by provocateurs mixed in with the public.
Unfortunately, they were sentenced to life imprisonment despite dozens of evidences, reports and camera footage presented in the courts for years proving the innocence of the Military Students. Despite the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention's determination of rights violations and the decision to release them, our friends are being held in prison unlawfully, disregarding international agreements...
