Bluebird Hatching

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I had the amazing opportunity to witness a baby bluebird hatching and was fortunate enough to capture it on video. I apologize for the unsteadiness of my hand. Enjoy!

They could be practicing. Usually hunting only a few shots. You won't waste ammunition... plus tears up the prey

She wasn't kept away she would come down and eat the shells and feed them. I made sure the "disturbance" was minimal. I've raised LOTS of bluebirds and many will still come back to visit. I have one that likes to sit on my bathroom window and peck at the glass.

So comical to see hatchlings with their large, unopened eyes and bobbing heads, opening their beaks wide for food at any sign of movement. Interesting video, well done, you, for capturing this.

Earlier in the video I heard an adult bird chirping, perhaps the mother of these babies, screaming from a nearby tree, "LEAVE! LEAVE!" While this is interesting to watch, it's also painful to watch knowing that in order to capture this live, you had to interfere with nature. Instead, consider installing a GoPro or some other digi-cam. Even an old cell phone can be propped up and left alone to record this. Every movement of these baby birds and each peep takes incredible amount of energy they simply don't have as newborns. Their mother usually assists with the hatching process, so that less energy is used from the baby, and feeds them immediately. With little to no feathers, they are also probably cold. That too loses energy trying to maintain adequate body temperature.

They were fine checking daily while she laid her eggs but I only got dive bombed by the male after she started ft incubation. What camera and lens did you use? My box opens with side door bottom lift. I put a camera in one of my boxes she ended up using the one without the camera. I was bummed. I live in Cali and have western bluebirds.
