👍👍 Those tunnels, bridges, everything they built back then is just amazing. They did not have the technology we have these days, but still was able to build it by using their brains, common sense, law of nature and just good old plain physics. Nowadays, if you take away technology from these younger generations, I don't think they will survive.

Russ, if you read this and are still in NC, Let me strongly suggest that you make a detour to Grayson Highlands state park in Virginia. Its an easy and beautiful drive. The views from up top are fabulous, and there's a herd of wild ponies in the upper meadows. Google it and driving directions. US 58 in that area is curvy but very scenic.

HI Russ, I honestly think that is one of the most beautiful areas.... That museum looked like so much fun and what great pieces of Art. I love history and historical pieces that are saved for posterity. I think it is really important our kids never forget their history as maybe we are doomed to do things over and over again as a human population on this earth, if we don't learn from the past. But now onto the beauty of that area and your switch backs, and narrow roads and long way down to the Valley below. Wow! A long way up. Now I don't mind Mountains, but not quite that high.... But the Forest, isn't that gorgeous spring Green... Nice Russ and we Love travelling along with you all.... Big Wave, and big hug to everyone on here... We are just about through this Pandemic....one step at a time... And those sweet tunnels, so adorable. The old ones of course is what I speak of....Gee we are hoping the borders will be open by September, and then we can come and visit everyone....Bye for now a big wave to you all.... Your friend forever.... We will make it through this as neighbours. USA, in America is my second home, so we cannot not make it through huh???? And further I have family down there so lets make it through everyone....Take care of yourselves please....CDHx2

Depending on your route North to Virginia, if coming up 77N you may possibly come into some traffic. The Bowmans Festival Market takes place on Memorial & Labor day weekends on Route 58 in Hillsville, Va. It's a sight to see, bigger than the Tent in Quartsite. Only lasts 4 days Friday to Monday. They also have a gun show. The 4th of July you can experience parades, lots of good food, beautiful fireworks. In the fall, It's beautiful to visit all these little towns with the fall festivals, Brushy Mountain Apple Festival in Wilkesboro, N.C., October's Privy races down main street in Independence, Va. There is a flea market the last weekend in July that goes along Route 21 from North Carolina up into Virginia every year. Not sure what changes have taken place since the pandemic. So very many attractions to enjoy in N.C. & Va. Both states loaded with history.

🙋‍♀️Hello Russ! Enjoying this ride along the parkway. That was a nice Visitor Center. The Via-Duct goes around Grandfather Mountain in the Boone, N.C area. In the fall, that hillside looks like a blanket of gold when the leaves change. There's a Trading Post on your left up ahead that features local homemade items. Neat! Doughton Park on up ahead on your right is interesting to see how they lived back in the day. There's a short story board there. Have you seen the Mountain Laurel? It's purple flowers. Sparta,N.C is like a piece of Heaven.👍
