Blue Peter-14th of January 1982.

The earliest edition of 1982 I have to hand. There was a lot of snow that month it seems. As they look at the frozen up fish pond and it's a disaster with a lot of fatalities. On a brighter note Sarah has a good filmed piece from a House Jane Austen lived in,when she wrote most of her famous novels. And just when the show was looking Peter Duncan light he has some BMX work on the snow in the garden.Hope you enjoy as well.

This is my era of Blue Peter. Goldie, the vandalised garden saga and Joey Deacon.

I remember watching a documentary suggesting that BP's kid audience laughed at the garden being trashed because, basically, they were all little shits. Russell T. Davies was one of the talking heads, even though he was 21 in 1983. I wouldn't say I was devastated by the vandalism, but even at 7 I thought it was sad that so much had been ruined. On the other hand, kids WERE little shits when it came to Joey Deacon. "Joey" was a term of abuse when I was at primary school, usuall accompanied by "unnnnnnhhhhh" noises with the tongue firmly pushing out below the bottom lip.

Sarah Greene and Peter Duncan originally began their tv careers as actresses/actors. Sarah's career started in a soap opera made by Southern tv in 1980/81 (can't remember the name of it except it was about the lives of residents all living in the same housing block of flats) and Peter's first tv appearance was in an episode of Space 1999 from 1976.

@@SteveHarris-nv9iy Peter Duncan appeared in both Doomwatch and Softly Softly : Task Force. Quite alarming to Gen X kids like me seeing those episodes in 2024 who only remember Duncan on BP in his green and white checked suit.

25:31 190 children were moved to SEND A LETTER to Blue Peter over a 3 second error. And I bet every single one of them is now a middle-age internet pedant flooding X and Facebook with posts saying "But I think actually you will find that..." I have my doubts today's kids are taught Roman numerals at Primary School like I was. I got a BMX bike nearly 2 years after this at Christmas 1983. It didn't go well, as housing estates in Penwortham were more dangerous than I imagined. My left handlebar hit a car's wing mirror, and I scraped most of the skin off the left side of my face when I hit the tarmac. My left cheek is still slightly redder than the right even 40 years later. Take care on bikes, kids.

I doubt kids now can read Roman numerals at all.Funny some thought it was another deliberate mistake like odd socks.

I knew her better in Saturday Superstore soon after than Blue Peter presenter.I assume that was main reason she left Peter as enough workload with other series.
