You will only need 3 wraps per manufacturers spec. It’s 3.5 mil thick so you have nearly double of what is required. The tape wills start to stick itself together because the “valley” of the nipple threads will be completely filled, leaving no room for the female threads on the boiler to seat to. Then it will just “roll” up the nipple. Always roll tape clockwise while looking at the end of the threads. Blue Monster has 100% expansion also, because it’s not “pre-stretched “ when it’s manufactured. Anyone can run into a finicky thread, that’s for sure, hopefully it sealed well for you!

Agreed. Definitely user error.

Even though it pushed the tape out I bet it was still sealed. I've been using blue monster for years with pipe dope. Everything water I use both. Even with bad threads I almost never have leaks using both

Hmmm I think I know what might have gone wrong, it appears all the expensive tapes in $4/unit including blue (actually it's cheaper than HF 10 rolls lol) do not bunch up easily but they also don't stick easily either. Later is what I think you've experienced with. Since you're doping, just 3 wrap is good enough. This thing is too beasty, you don't need to go 5x rounds. Try this, (1) put on a small dope just a real tiny drop, the purpose here is to encourage tape to stick and stay (2) wrap 3 round CW make sure it's tight if they move around it's no good #2 didn't do the trick then finally (3) dope again like you just did here.

It might be the threads on your nipple ?. Its happened to me before where it turned out to be the pipe threads.

I've had good luck with just pipe dope alone maybe it's to thick with both and it's pushing it off??

Seems like it happens a lot with the Blue Monster tape.......I kinda overtaped with the white teflon just to see .......I'd like to revisit later and hopefully make a better vid.....=)

That's strange but undeniable...the white tape clearly would have sealed better. On a side note, did you look at the boiler cover panels? Are they slotted for the piping? I don't want to see you have to take the nipples out to get the cover on it once it's all piped in. Also, I think you might have one of my pipe wrenches...all of mine have the grey stripe on the handle also :)

Probably why it's the only rigid wrench in the house.....lol.........=)....No worries on the side panel, took a long time to build the courage to put it on but it slides nicely over the union .......the other side panel will get trapped in return piping =)........ I'm re-taping anything with Blue Monster while it's easy for peace of mind ........=)

I only use blue monster Teflon and dope and it never fails on me, I’ve only had leaks but it was because of bad fitting.

You put on too much blue demon,You just needed 3 wraps because its double thick

no offense but when putting on Teflon tape put counter-clockwise that is why its peeled of! when i am tired and exauted i also do mistake 😉

No worries Bud......I didnt show it well but it was on counter-clockwise......it's folded over in the shot to unwind........I re did it for peace of mind =)

I wonder if you had an burr in the boiler? But I would have done the same experiment without pipe dope it could be causing a chemical reaction or it made it to "slick"
