We present to your attention a dramatic cinematic story telling about a typical representative of the golden youth, spoiled by comfort and not inclined to solve problems on his own. Because of his habit of receiving everything on a silver platter, he relaxed and life taught him his first cruel lesson: the guy did not enter his chosen university. And after that, as you know, there is only one way - to the army. Mom’s son doesn’t even end up in a simple unit, but in an airborne battalion. The new environment will completely change his worldview and character, making him a real man. This is a brief synopsis of the dramatic film filmed at the Kyiv Film Studio named after Alexander Dovzhenko in 1978 by director Isaac Shmaruk “Blue Lightning”. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Alexander Kuleshov, published in 1972.
During his long film career at the Dovzhenko Film Studio, director Isaac Shmaruk made many films on military themes, but did not create epoch-making ones. His most famous works are “Truth”, “Stars on Wings”, “Peace to Khatam - War to Palaces” and others. The film “Blue Lightning” is one of his later works. As well as the actor Yuri Kamorny, who tragically died two years after the release of this film. In it he played company commander Kopylov. Interestingly, the actor took this role very seriously. For almost a month he lived in the Airborne Forces unit, tried to hit a brick with his hand, did somersaults and threw knives.
