Blue Holes: What's Down There?

Ғылым және технология

Stark blue and almost perfectly round, blue holes have been described
as “pupils in the sea.” Because the technology required to explore a blue hole wasn't even developed until a few decades ago, all sorts of ideas abounded about what was down there.
In 2018, OceanX became the first team since Jacques Cousteau to voyage to the bottom of Belize's Great Blue Hole-considered one of the best diving sites in the world-and bring back some footage of this incredible "underwater cathedral."

0:52 “At the time there was no way of knowing how far down that would be (It was 410 feet)” ...so you’re telling me Jacques Cousteau had the technology to build a submarine but couldn’t drop a few hundred feet of fishing line from a boat to measure how deep it was?

I'm very lucky to have done a scuba dive in the Blue Hole... (all 8 minutes of it). It's a big hole. :) about 1 mile in diameter, 410ft deep and around the edge are the huge stalactites you see in the film.

We know that there is many terraces with caves and cavern filled with stalactites and stalagmites at veritable layers from the bottom up. This means that the seas have been rising for a while now with extreme and sudden flooding events happening at various times that seems to agree with the ice ages in the past just like now today.

I'm not sure that jauques team had no way of knowing how deep it was because the Marianas trenches depth was first recorded as a couple thousand feet by a fathomer on board a Spanish gunboat in the early 1600s the reason they didn't hit the bottom was because they didn't have enough rope on board, also jauques missions were in the 60s right? We had sonar tech

Blimey if it was 400+ feet above sea level then the ice age came & then it sunk - what would happen if / when another ice age comes along ???? Most of the land will vanish 😱
