The low notes, peddle tones, when done correctly, help to relax the chops (lips) and keep the player ready to play. My band does it all the time after a warm up or during to make sure we don't kill our chops before a show.

We have multiple staff members for the brassline, usually one for each section. They usually trade off on warm-ups and then after the warm up is done, they'll do a chord progression that they like, and you can tell which chord they want by the shape of their hands. Notice how when he moves his arm around the arch his hand is in a different shape each time.

It's perfectly fair. There's nothing stopping you from learning a brass instrument. I marched a top corps with those who learned a brass instrument just to march. Drum and Bugle Corps have their history in the military where there were only drums and bugles, with color guards to hold flags . They would march into battle while playing music to encourage troops to fight on. I'll send you links explaining it further.

For the brass players, what does the low peddle tongue type playing do technique wise?? Sure it sounds cool but are they just showing off or is it useful? AMAZING WARMUP!

my friend Adam and my boyfriend Braden are gonna help me learn, and they're trumpet players. Killough doesn't really like woodwinds so he might not teach me himself, and I don't think it would be a good idea to even ask him. (he's not exactly the calmest man alive) and I can't afford lessons. They're like $15 for a half hour or some shit. and Eaton is the percussion guy, and Jones is the woodwind woman. not exactly many ways to learn except for a sophomore and another freshman -_-

When I was in high school, many years ago, both my brand directors were very cool about me learning multiple instruments. You could always learn and not play it in concert band until you've gotten better. If your band director has time, perhaps they can show you some good technique. If you are absolutely serious about playing, I'd suggest getting a few lessons so you don't develop bad habits.

I gotta play tuba and percussion (since they were separate classes) and I was even the section leader my senior despite only joining halfway through my junior year, it was the best. The advantages of knowing a lot of instruments is it gets easier and easier to learn another one
