BLucid Floral opens first Black-Owned Flower Bar in historic Lower Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WTDN)- BLucid Floral opened its does a week ago as the first Black-Owned Bloom Bar in the Historic Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. A line of people wrapped around the bright teal-colored building located at 5113 St. Claude Avenue to get a first look inside.
The owner, Brandi Charlot, completely remodeled an historic shotgun style cottage that was passed down to her by her father. The store features a cultivation of locally grown florals, floral arrangements, floral delivery and floral design. The highlight of the space is a full service flower bar with regularly changing florals that allows customers to create and style their own custom bouquets.
BLucid is at the epicenter of the Lower Ninth Ward Neighborhood and sits along the St. Claude Avenue corridor and near the Bywater and Marigny neighborhoods. The space had been vacant since Hurricane Katrina until owner and internationally certified florist, Brandi J. Charlot, pumped more than $20,000.00 into bringing it back into commerce.
The Bloom Bar will also house an array of florals for any and every occasion. The Bloom Bar will feature pre-packed floral arrangements with a unique cultural flare, which to include locally grown and domestic blooms. Blooms for private, offsite events are available for purchase by contacting Brandi J. Charlot (504) 957-6357 or emailing Blucidfloral.brandi@gmail.com.

Blessings to you, Brandi! It is such an inspiration that you went after your dreams. Good on you for investing in your community. With your talent, hard work, and good heart, your business will grow. Have you thought of growing your own flowers to sell in your floral bar? There is a trend of florists growing their own flowers to offer customers local, fresh, and affordable flowers.

So inspiring. I am a black elementary teacher and want to open a flower shop in my home town. I am just getting into floral design. All of our black owned shops have closed. So I am trying to figure out how to start.
