I think hate is the wrong word to describe Mary and Elizabeth's relationship. They had their ups and downs, but even in the end when all of Mary's advisers were pressuring her to sign Lizzie's death warrant she couldn't bring herself to do it. Part of it was her fear of God's judgment if it turned out Elizabeth was innocent of her supposed treason, but another part was Elizabeth WAS her sister whom she loved.

Kate Yeow it’s ironic that the four women were kind of polar opposites of each other-Catherine of Aragon, Mary I of England, Anne Boleyn, and Elizabeth I of England-in their lifetimes. Catherine of Aragon was much beloved by the English people, whereas Anne Boleyn was very much disliked. And their daughters were the opposite reputation to their mothers. Elizabeth I was popular, unlike her mother, and Mary I was not loved like her mother was.

RAUL PEnet “before” is a preposition. “In front of” is a prepositional phrase. Typically, before is used in reference to time. But it is also appropriate to use it in reference to space and location (especially in old English). But it is also used in modern English. For example: “Right before my eyes was......”. I hope this helps. 😀

That's sad because I sympathize with Mary. When life only went downhill, and that was all that happened in her life, even the happiest, mentally healthy, person would succumb. That being said, it doesn't mean what she did was right, however, it certainly was a legit cause for whatever happened during her reign, to happen.

@Cool Dude, listen up. She was foreshadowed and was traumatized, it takes a toll on some people. People believe her actions were sick, yes, but she thought that when she burned them it burned all their sins off and they would go to Heaven, considering her strong Catholicity. So you should not be able to go around saying that she's a horrible person just because you don't understand her story completely.

I feel Mary is both a victim and a monster. This is sadly very common when people are abused and neglected as children and will do anything to satisfy and support the only thing that did consistently give her comfort, her faith. Her story is both tragic and a cautionary tale. Deal with your traumas before they deal a deadly or simply devastating blow to those who love you..... including yourself.

I'm not sure it was for the sake of love, I'd rather say for the power. Since the first wife couldn't bear a son, and he was in need to get one by all means possible, he was looking for any possible way to do that. Even if that meant the revolution of the church. I'm not even sure if he ever loved either of his wives.

Add me to the 'victim' column. The reason she was so obsessive likely related to it being the only mental refuge she had. Stripped of everything she had ever known, the one thing they couldn't possibly take was her faith. Thus, any perceived threat to catholicism was also a threat to the very foundation of her being. I imagine that her endometriosis and other hardships also likely gave her a belief that hardship was the foundation of faith and pain the path to salvation.
