Bloody Mary's first start up at Prescott since 1963! Bit smokey as a extra oil had been pumped into engines to protect big ends
Жүктеу.....

Never seen him in it on film! Can't get over how closely he fitted the steering wheel! Classic post. Thanks

It is not one engine but two. They are 981cc JAP KTOR racing V Twin engines from Brough Superior motorcycles. About 120bhp. Built in 1929.

@ShelsleySpecial There were several versions of Bloody Mary. The one I would like to have seen had four V-twin engines - one per wheel - with a fifth driving the supercharger for the others. If I remember correctly, it wasn't a success: there was too much trouble keeping all the chains tight, intact and in place.

It also had bad weight distribution, because the driver was over the rear axle. John Bolster should have realised that having four engines driving a common shaft would not work - his brother once built a race car with four Rudge single cylinder engines driving a common shaft running fore-and-aft. It kept breaking drive chains, and he gave up on the layout

Can you give us any info on what the engine is? Looks very unusual

I have that book too, and John Bolsters 'Specials' and 'Motoring is my Business' You should get them, lots more of the story behind this car. I see you are also into stationary engines, I picked up a rusty Crossley engine last year, it's currently in bits on my garage floor. I might post some picks up on flickr.

@Erictheirritated Only four engines to my knowledge but I could be wrong. I can't post a URL to my flickr page on here as it will throw up an error, but if you go to the 'flickr' web page and do a search for 'John Bolster' all the images uploaded by 'shelseyspecial' are mine. There are a few pictures of Johns four engined special on there

I must admit this a 'beautiful' if little insane car. There were rally Mini s as i understand ran front and rear engines, with seperate transmissions, but were problomatic because a misfire or other change of engine output came to adversly effect handling....not good when your half way round the corner sideways.

sounds like it's running too lean... :/

That's 2 litres of V twin race engines. But yes, it's a very small compact race car, and with a remarkably successful racing record. Built by John Bolster, later a successful motoring journalist and technical writer.

Maybe it's a cool car, I have no idea. I am fed up with all these "startup and idle" videos. At least give a nickel tour so as to understand it's qualities. This is almost as boring as Playboy channel, if it still exists.
