He really owed Miklo, Miklo stopped him from shooting spider in the head. If Miklo didn’t stop Paco from killing spider he would be the one doing life in prison and Miklo would be free. He did owe him and shooting his leg off was wrong of him even if he was just doing his Job. Family is more important then a Job and in reality Miklo saved Pacos life.

You all forget Miklo could have killed Paco and vice versa...thing is, Paco made a choice to his duty and stuck with it but still didnt kill Miklo, it evened out though cause of Paco not deserting Miklo in the car crash... However, in this scene you see Paco taking the right path again, however, he knows he'll always be tied to Miklo which is what Cruz made him realize later....this happens alot in Mexican families (ive seen it, lived it myself), so it makes it very difficult which path to choose, which is why this scene is great, it does happen and not many choose the right path...fyi 👍

Cos he's a a hypocrite who spouts about family and honor when it's convenient to him. Did you noticed that not once in the movie did he visit Miklo when he was in prison, also if you watch the shooting scene where Paco shoots Miklo's leg, Paco double taps and he's like "surprised Pikachu face" you lost your leg holmes. The only time Paco ever talked with Miklo when he was in prison was when he needed something that can help his career.

Well by the time Paco became a cop, he had completely moved on from his past life. When his youngest brother died that's when he completely lost any sympathy for criminals. He eventually did understood and accepted responsibility for what Miklo became at the end of the movie.

Because Miklo wasn't going to snitch for nothing. He wanted something in return in which Paco was unwilling to do. That's why.

When I was younger I used to think that everything that happened in the movie was because of miklos actions but as I got older I realized it was all because of Paco if it hadn't been for him being a badass Cruz would never have his back injured and he wouldn't even be addicted to drugs miklo wouldn't even be in prison and most of all the more important thing Juanito wouldn't even be dead. I was a kid when I first saw this movie but now seeing this movie as an adult honestly I can say that it was all because of Paco

When Miklo and Paco were walking down the alley and they saw that tres puntos tagged up the wall, who was the one that got heated? When Paco saw Spider and the homeboys tagging it up, who’s the one that wanted to fuck them up? Paco was a selfish asshole, but Miklo is responsible for all his actions. Can’t paint this dude as a victim of Paco’s choices when Miklo was already heading down the path. This is apparent in the end when Miklo is taking with Paco about Miklo being “forced into his destiny”.

At the end. Cruz says.. " Miklos was just trying to be like you" Paco says " so your saying this is my fault?". And Cruz doesn't say a word. He just stares at him... so deep. This was a hell of a movie. I always felt like Paco was oblivious to how he effected Cruz and Miklos lives.

Miklo Velka was a tragic figure. He was so full of hate and rage due to his father's racism, and nobody was willing to accept him due to his mixed heritage. Yes, Paco shares some responsibility for how things turned out (Miklo initially going to prison for manslaughter and Cruz's back being messed up; Paco egging on Miklo to join the gang). I hate it when Paco lost his brother when he fooled around with the heroin Cruz was using. Still, it does not excuse Miklo's actions. This scene right here was as if Miklo was dead to Paco when he became head of La Onda. However, Paco forgave Miklo as well as himself. Remember, forgiveness is not about the other person, it is releasing yourself from anger and hate; Miklo will still have his woes as head of La Onda and face the consequences of his deeds. A powerful scene here with Benjamin Bratt and Damian Chapa.

I think I wanted Popeye to have a hit put on him. He was the one who gave La Onda a bad name, f*cked everyone over, kept money for himself, narc'd out Miklo's heist. This is one of the few films where the bad guy got away. He was the one who was not a Vato Loco; he should have been the one to have the VL placa cut off.
