Block-in Exercise

Block-in video on how to start a drawing for painting or modeling in graphite. Also, this a great exercise in itself to repeat often to get more accurate at drawing over time.

Something I try and do is avoid heavy line work at the early stages. It causes a more cartoon effect on my drawings. All very useful commentary though and is helping me with other techniques. Much appreciated.

I bought some of Scott’s paid videos yesterday. I am still going through the content. But the ones I have watched so far, art of painting and on form, are pretty great. I think the tutorials are of the best quality.

Thank you for the tutorial. I've enjoyed it. I was hoping you could explain the measurements with your pencil better. My drawing does not seem to be the same size as my photo, so I'm struggling with getting the dimensions/ measuring to be helpful on my drawing.

would be great if you would fix the focal length so the video doesnt go all blurry from time to time. also, what do you do when you put the pencil on the right side, are you measuring distance? because i cant see it since there's a photo on top of that part of the video.

Man,you need to practice drawing. You are drawing under jowl, wich you can't even see from this perspective. Her forehead is falling down left, closer to you,(look at her cheek,it's big)so her chin is goin' up right, further from you,so you have a shortening of her jowl.Just a friendly tip!🙂🖐
