Block 30 Balam Road - IFE elevator

Subtitles: Available
Date filmed: 14 November 2020
Time: 1837 to 1840
Location: 30 Balam Road, Singapore 370030 (Residential HDB [Housing Development Board] building)
Previous elevator was identical to Block 32 Balam Road's Lift A, but it did not have announcements.
In my opinion, this is way better than the Mitsubishi Singapore limited-stop replacements (such as at Block 61 Toa Payoh), as it serves floors 1 to 8 now, instead of 1,4,8 (On a side note, IFE elevators of today level slightly faster than MSG elevators). However, residents staying at the 9th and 10th floor of this building did not benefit from this elevator replacement, sadly.
Just checked up online and realised that it has already been more than a year after Lift A had been replaced for this block. Block 32's Lift A is still surviving well, efficiently serving its residents. Perhaps Lift A for this block had maintenance issues which Block 32's Lift A didn't have?
Technical specifications:
Manufacturer: IFE
Year installed: 2019
Capacity: 10persons/680kg
Floors served: 1 to 8
History: Installed/replaced under Selective Lift Replacement Programme, previously GEC Express, modernized by Fujitec twice.

the good thing is that the ife lifts are getting better and the leveling is faster. However as the lifts are made in China, the quality is still average as the lift is like a can with wood in the interior attached with cables...

With HDB-spec generic fixtures the quality looks fine (the ones in the Hillion also) but those in other-spec lifts e.g. MapleTree/former JTC flatted factories, Midview City look more worn

Looks like IFE has hit the jackpot with the cab wall pattern. This one looks much less boring than their new HDB installations.

I agree, iFE cabs aren’t actually too bad, whereas the Mitsubishi and EM LRP installations pretty much have a boring cab.

It would probably have taken longer and cost more to make it serve 9 and 10, so they just cut their losses and added the rest of the previously unserved floors, which is still better than what happened at Toa Payoh. Hopefully if the Otis gets replaced, it'll be by iFE. That way they can function as a set.

10 was where the machine room was, and to hack it out it would be too costly and since there's alr the Otis to stop at 9 and 10, they just decided to cap the IFE at 8 floors but still added the missing floors inbetween.

@@LiftyGamez Similar situation at NUS's Blk E1 lifts but the top floor has a connecting bridge to a neighbouring block (E2) with another lift at that bridge. Since E2 is built higher up a slope than E1 though the floor nomenclature is different, with L8 of E1 (the top floor) being at the same level as L4 of E2. The bridge's lift follows the floor numbering of E2 instead of E1, so to go to the top floor (L8) of the E1 you have to press L4 in that lift instead. Though prev I thought that with MRL technology, the machine room could've been replaced with an additional lift landing to serve the top floor, but after walking thru E1 I saw that there's perhaps the additional expense of hacking & replacing the machine room's wall, since it isn't completely vertical & flat like lift lobby's walls, but convex with some vents near the floor

Most likely maintenance reasons. Rode this back in 2018 and the ventilation wasn't working, plus the lift jerks quite a bit while starting, unless they awarded a different tender for Blk 32. Also, is blk 33's Express still surviving?

Not uncommon elsewhere to replace the 'down' button with an upside-down 'up' button also but will likely present problems to visually impaired people as the Braille is also upside down & now unreadable, as they aren't symmetrical unlike the arrows

If I'm being honest, the replacement for Lift B is more dumber than Lift A's (Which has an reasonable reason why it can't serve 9 and 10 as the TC needed to save costs) Lift B's replacement is by Fujitec instead of IFE. If lift B was replaced by IFE, then they can just coil up the call stations. Similar case to Blk 32 in this area. Blk 31 has the same problem as blk 30 but has 1 advantage (as it serves the 16th floor)
