Bjarke Ingels is a real visionary, and the BIG/Diamond Schmitt design is a strong entry and my preferred option.

My first place proposal is BIG. 2nd runner up will be Wilkinson Eyre for having a more dynamic internal space.

My main critique of the Provencher Roy design is, if you peel off the agora, it could be the Rideau Centre.

The Wilkinson Eyre design is also an excellent submission. It is not derivative; it is creative yet sympathetic; it has some West Coast vibes. Can we build it with glulam, would be my only question. I would have a hard time choosing between it and the BIG/Diamond Schmitt design.

Watson MacEwen's design looks unfinished, maybe intentionally, but on the Southern elevation it almost reminds me of a ruin. On the North, I find it looms over the IPS, whereas the BIG/Diamond Schmitt design "pulls back" and "reveals" the IPS.

The NEUF proposal is so generic. That probably means it will win, knowing this town. I do like that it creates an outdoor ground connection between Sparks and Wellington behind the IPS. Are any of these green roofs realistic? Is the public ever going to be allowed up there? I seriously doubt it.

Disappointed to learn that the Zeidler / EVOQ design was selected. Copper cladding is so over, and its just bland. Another lost opportunity.

I must say that some of the "historic" buildings around which all these designs must work are pretty doubtful and would not be missed. Too bad we cannot consider flattening some of them. The old US Embassy is hardly a gem, and no doubt an Indigenous architect could suggest something more compelling.
