@Tim j I played this game since D1 and I can say, combat gameplay was improved in D3, even the new "talent" system. But its a remake, better to not change anything, unless the vast majority (99%) of D2 players agree with it. Also, they should keep the 3d design almost identical to the old version (its 2d ingame but it was made from 3d, they should get closer from those old models).

Diablo 2 is absolutely legendary. Words can't describe how this game felt as a kid. You never truly uncovered everything there was to know about it. The way the player community evolved was so organic. I loved how the value of gear wasn't something you could so easily google. You had to actually think if an item would make your character better, and if not, if it could make someone else better. Such an incredible experience.

I have EASILY over 100,000 hours on Diablo 2 and LoD. I still play it. I never got sick of it. The replayability surpasses that of most games today. I used to actually speak with Max Schaefer himself once in a while. It was the biggest honor. I tried not to sound like a peasant kneeling before a king. But speaking to the great 3 is a dream to a huge fan of their work. I know he, along with David Brevik and Erich Schaefer appreciate keeping the game as close to its original roots as possible while refreshing it visually ten fold.

People like myself still have characters on the realms when yours very likely have long expired. I can tell the difference in game play because I understand D2 on a fundamental level that most people who were quite casual don't understand. I am richer and have been richer than 99% of the realms have been for decades, and have only fought at the highest levels of pvp, I have made it to #1 on ladder overall and in Paladin class. I can see obvious differences in game play that will completely be boring in this iteration of D2 from the run speeds, projectile speeds and objects interactions, it's nothing like D2's, D2 was much faster, and the attacks were crisp and directionally oriented towards the object it's attacking, it's a generic all in one attack. All I have to say is I am sorry you will have to do a repeat like Diablo 3, and likely Diablo 4, and the remake. These engineers just don't get what made Diablo, Diablo. The closest concept they have is from Llama from Twitch and even that guy ONLY does speed runs, and doesn't have a clue how to build the strongest characters in the game.

It was fascinating hearing all of the quirks and interesting things that I had no idea about or was never able to appreciate due to limited screen resolution, etc. (like the statues in the Chaos Sanctuary). Maybe sit down with Brandon Jones from Easy Allies since he was involved in the Diablo Retrospective over at GameTrailers all of those years ago (and it was a phenomenal set of videos) and knock several videos out about the lost (and found?) history of the game and franchise - I know it would definitely be something that I would be excited to watch!
