With weather forecasts so much more accurate these days, it’s easy to avoid being out on the roads during hazardous conditions. But there were times in the past when I did drive on slick pavement. However, driving slow and never getting too close to vehicles ahead, I always avoided slideoffs, spinouts, collisions, etc. I do miss how funny it was watching other drivers pass at high speeds and then pass them a short way down the road at my same leisurely pace as they stood around trying to figure out how to get out of the bar ditch or surveying aftermath of a non-injury crash involving their vehicle. So funny.

I'm the opposite. The slower I drive the less lucky I get. I remember sliding right into a corn field doing 25 mph. Yet, in my younger more stupid days, I've done 80+ on pure ice and sleet and felt just as confident as if I were doing it at 50.

I have really good tires, so handling or sliding out is not an issue for me. Along with AWD for hills. I am the driver that passes you and you don’t see in ditch up road 🙂

The SouthWest Meltdown last year had NOTHING to do with no enough staff. It was because they still had a computer system from 1990. Basically, when there was a number of flights cancelled due to bad weather it caused a flow-on effect and then all the flights were being cancelled. They didn't even know where the pilots or flight crews were stranded. For pilots and crew to find out their weekly roster they still have to call someone. In the age of computers and when SouthWest call centers were overwhelmed by stranded passengers NOBODY was getting thru to their call center. AFTER 9/11 IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS and unacceptable for an airline to have no idea which pilots, flight attendants and passengers are on a flight........And to top it off South West were then sending passengers check-in luggage to the next destination without them.......People were stuck in freezing places like Denver without winter clothing. ....I have seen many flight issues before but this was a complete corporate disaster......The Chairman and board should be ashamed of themselves.

Very unfortunate for all those Northern States. I live in Southern Ontario and we've yet to get a single snowflake. 8C here and much rain. It was a very green Christmas indeed.

I'm looking forward for the 2024 Blizzard, at my home state Maryland, where I'll be able to witness it's beautiful winter scenery.

What happened to global warming?

Pond didn’t freeze for 16 yrs then it froze . 2 yrs later didn’t freeze……. Northeast doesnt freeze anymore

Very pleased this barely brushed SE Montana here. Last year was hammered from first blizzard in mid November until Spring. 3 days ago I was still waking on bare ground; stunning. And the inch or so is no obstruction, already melting with sun and pushing 50s. FTR I already had my silde-off wreck with a surprise blizzard the weekend before Halloween and hopeful (but fully possible) not using that to compare to what could get worse fast. Regardless, this too will pass.
