The fact that Rob called the Blackstar fluffy when Ryan “Fluff” Bruce notoriously hates Blackstar amps is absolutely hilarious to me.
This is awsome as always! Suggestion: Why don't you let Rob set up 15 amps the way he likes them. Let them cool for say 2 weeks before you shoot a video, and then pick 6-7 of these amps with his settings and let him blindtest. That would really put his knowledge on test. :)

Yes, let Chapters or Captain set their best clean, crunch and lead tones on each amp and then AB them versus another amp.
I was frankly blown away at how tight and angry that 6505 sounded. It wanted you to have all of the gain
Oh God he said "Fluff-y" when he turned the Blackstar on xD Am I the only one who can't handle this?

Nah, all that clowns stuff is pretty annoying after a while. Sure, it is ‘branding’ but it is tiring rather soon and is more than enough within one video let alone a series of them. The gimmick doesn’t age well.

“That isn’t music, it’s just a buncha noise!“ ..said old folks in the 40’s talking about blues
When I read or hear an amp review that states "way more gain than I'll ever need" that usually translates into "just the right amount" for me. Peavey 6505 for the win.
I am always amazed at Robs skills on these blind fold challenges. Great job guys!
I know this is older but I've been using this video as tool to help me buy one of these soon so here's this for anyone that may need it as well... Orange - 2:29 Peavey - 6:00 Blackstar - 9:20 Hotone - 12:39 Boss - 15:20 Egnater - 19:59 Marshall - 23:34 Victory - 26:57 Victory (Rob's correction) - 35:07

Didn't see this earlier, very useful as I'm thinking of either the Orange or the Victory. Maybe the Victory as I already have on old Tiny Terror for Orange tones.

6505mh: By far the best amp here. You can hear how tight it is compared to the other amps, which means you can always dial in a fuller tone to mimic that Orange-y sound if you wanted it (for whatever reason). You'd never be able to do the opposite: make any of these other amps sound as tight as the 6505 mini. For the record, I played along blind and thought the Orange sounded decent (still too much low end for my taste) and the Katana was okaaaaay for shredding. Thought everything else sounded like flaming hot garbage- completely worthless.

Impressive tone ears from Chappers again!
The editing just makes the videos so much fun!
Happy birthday Lee. Thanks for another great video 🤘
You guys are fantastic folks, really ! These blinfolded videos show how much Chappers is into music, how much he can hear and feel, which I find amazing. and I had a good laugh too, so keep 'em coming !
Seriously a quality video. Entertaining the entire way through. Keep it up guys.
I just love the whiteboard and actually keeping track of what Rob's comments are about each of the amps.
Rory, Mr. Editor, plz bring back fiddlesticks as a stand-in for when some one curses, I've been missing it :(
This is so entertaining and Rob's blinfold playing is awesome. His ear is so good. Great video as usual! I felt the same about the Egnator. Had a tweeker and it just didn't have the bite. Was fun to tweek though.
Thanks for uploading this today guys, after the day I've had this was awesome to see in my sub box!
2:21 That was the most unenthusiastic "I was born ready" ever uttered lol
Phenomenal ear, Rob! Love these blindfold tests! Missed hearing clean settings. So much is revealed about an amp on a clean setting. Much harder to find a great clean sound!
6505 mini has been on my radar for a while, this has totally convinced me to get one now!
This has got to be the best guitar/gear channel on KZread.... great stuff lads 👍
Great stuff anderton's! You guys are always funny and informative. Something that I like to do myself to remove my own bias is to listen to these videos with my headphones on without watching. I choose without knowing the tones that I like by remembering some of the wrist played or the time frame where it was played. It removes my own bias because let's face it we all have that. Keep rocking guys
That Orange sounds great - these videos are so entertaining. Keep them coming.
HAppy Birthday Mr. Lee Anderton ! You have brought us amazing entertainment , thank you .
I like how this channel "Andertons", they don't have to pause after playing before speaking like in that pedal show it's much more advanced but I like that pedal show how they write on the screen the amp they're using at that time or the pedal.
I LOVE these kind or videos. Extremely entertaining!
seriously guys, you are my favorites youtubers of the whole world , really, its just such a good rock channel, greetings from Mexico.
I love these blindfold challenges!
Love the blindfold challenges guys!
I "watched" this episode with a blindfold on, i quite enjoyed it, i give it a 9.8.
this was a great video.. rob said I'm sorry that's because I didn't like them.... pure gold! these blindfolded vids are probably some of my favs you guys do.
Okay, what needs to happen next is for Rob to explain what characteristics he is listening for to determine valve or not. No doubt his hearing and knowledge of sound production are on another level, which only develops after a lifetime of playing, listening to and developing gear. Amazing as usual Mr. Chapman.

There is a characteristic dynamic bark that you get with tubes that solid state doesn't replicate well. It's far easier to tell in person- in a video, very difficult to tell usually (unless compared with a very high end tube amp that's perfectly dialed-in). I have gear throughout low to high price bands, so that's just my two cents. After playing on this gear for a while, I have a tendency now to strongly-prefer tube-driven gain and effects when I'm in front of the amp. These techniques tend to show it the most: Palm-muting (I have a very heavy right-hand and palm-mute very quickly, so I am always chasing a tight amp sound) & alternating between high and low string power chords (full chords as well)
@jmcsquared18
6 жыл бұрын
But he always gets the Marshall DSL wrong, in both this video and in the gain version of the valve vs solid state vs modeling challenge video. Rob never thinks the Marshall DSL is valve! What gives with that?? It's one of the best tube amps on the planet, especially the 2018 reissue series.
@goddessintriptych7046
6 жыл бұрын
As good as the DSL is, it's a bit more "clandestine-sounding" than tighter amps, like the 5150 tribute here. That clandestine quality can be heard in lower-end heads (like the Hotone's), so if you're really scrutinizing the amp for that sound, you'll screen out everything with that sound and gravitate towards the tighter amps. I recommend watching Lasse Lammert's playlist to listen for this sound, especially the Hotone Head (very clandestine/distant sounding) vs. the ENGL Ritchie Blackmore (E650) or Krank Krankenstein+ which are very forward/clear and tight-sounding amps by comparison: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eH1o25lyndi_dZs.html

GoddessIn Triptych I don't know what you're hearing, the DSL is very present to my ears. It's a bit fizzier than a 5150/6505 but it doesn't sound far away at all. That's what the valves are supposed to do? Mine does a great job with metal and cleans; although a 5150/6505 would be a bit tighter, it wouldn't be like daylight and dark.
@goddessintriptych7046

Isn't there some sort of mid-contour on the DSL as well? I played one in a store a while back and that had one and really liked the controls (I still want to own one some day). One of my favorite Death Metal albums was recorded with it
God I love this channel! I love the blindfold challanges!! do more please! maybe cheap vs expensive distortion pedals! tube vs non tube distortion or preamp pedals!
I really liked the Blackstar one!
What about a playoff Last Man(Gear) Standig type of Video? Two pieces of gear against each other one loses the other comes to the next round until only one is left.
@brutalbeetle
6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't really give a good idea of ratings, for example with this one everything would have lost to the orange so you wouldn't know how the others compare, just that orange > everything else. You'd have to do a bracket type where the winners only compete after a play-off round, and it would make the videos take way more than twice as long
Blindfold videos are the future!! Nice one fellas.
First video I saw of Chappers was 11 years ago with 'Orange Tiny Terror Metal'; this video feels like a full circle with Rob picking the Orange as his favourite :)
The editing is becoming legendary!
Great video as always. I'm just waiting for the Vai video! Come on guys!

So glad they brought back the rocker circuit. I was begging orange for years after they discontinued the rocker 30 to bring it back. It's quintessential orange crunch, it's cleans up well, two channel with an FX loop (the older one didn't have the loop). Done deal.

Thank you for another blindfold challenge video. If nothing else, it makes you listen with your ears and not your eyes :-)
Rory, those songs you made were amazing xD I want a compilation of them!! (P.S.: the Peavey sounded best to my ears as well!)
Digging the Orange aswell. Awesome.
Chappers @ 12:45 on the Egnater Tweaker review video “I really really like this amp.” Don’t feel bad about giving it the low score. You loved it when it was dialed in right.

If I lived in the uk I wouldn’t buy from anyone but andertons, these kinds of videos show such a level of class, it shows how they dont advertise amps based on profits for them but actually goes to show people how they sound and what would work best for them

Mark it down also. Rob almost did not know how to say it but the words "can you turn the gain down" were spoken here folks!
I agree with the previous comments - the Orange is first by a long way but then my back up to my Laney LV300T is a Micro Terror played through a Blackstar 4 x 8" - not quite the bass response of a 4 x 12" but better than a 1 x 12"!! Still a fantastic amp and dead easy to dial in
The blindfold challenges are great guys! :)
holy fook! when Rob does the settings for the RD1 it sounds amazing!
That Orange Rocker just does it for me! Unreal.
I always find it interesting when Chappers does these blindfold challenges. Also very telling what he really thinks of gear when he's not trying to "sell" stuff. Like, I've seen the vids about the Marshall DSL amps specifically, and his opinion here is very different when he doesn't actually know it's a Marshall.
the guy who edits these hilarious videos needs a raise.
Holy shit Rob really knows his stuff!! He's so accurate with those guesses
The Artist MK2 is an amazing amp! So many great amps available today it's almost like you really can't go wrong. My Chapman guitar is one of the finest guitars I own. I plan on adding a Chapman baritone to my collection!
I loooooove this kind of videos! Make moooooore pleaaasseee
Rob's playing is awesome as usual, and he probably has the best ears of any guitarist alive.
Excellent and proper use of the word penultimate, just as captain Lee was switching to the egnator.
These videos are the best videos imo
Love the show, always do.
I wish now that I was blindfolded.... or simply looked away, to judge these for myself. I've always liked Orange amps, so I may have some bias there, but it does seem to have been at the top of most lists anyway. I'd say the Peavey, Victory and Katana join the Orange at the top, but since Rob had those at the top as well, I'm questioning myself. Great video!
@goddessintriptych7046

After the first blindfold pedal challenge, I started listening to all of these challenges blind. It works. I picked out the Peavey MH which sounded tight to me (a big plus), much tighter than the other amps. I happen to own the big version and generally like similar-sounding amps like the Framus Cobra.
Rob! That was amazing. You guessed so much about so many of them. \m/
The Orange amp...talk about having the "cocked wah" sound... LOVED the sound of the unboosted Peavey lunch box. Rob did MUCH better this go 'round. Must have been feeling more relaxed. Who knows? But he pretty much nailed five out of the eight . Somewhat restored my faith in his golden ear! Odd that he did not identify his own signature amp.
Damn I've not heard any of the other amps yet but Rob made that orange sound great!
The Orange sounded best to me, Good crunch without losing the tone. Rob tends to like too much gain though! I'd like to see you do this with clean sounding amps & the Danish god playing.
The best I’ve heard Rob play, probably because he said he recorded yesterday and was practicing like crazy. Great video, will you guys now do a third video, amongst those >< 1k, blindfolded of course?
The Boss is my favorite, which is why I bought one. The Orange was my second favorite in this lineup, with the Peavey coming in 3rd. I love these blind challenges.

I don't think they set the eq on the DSL correctly. Mine can put out a huge metal sound, but Rob's correct in saying that the DSL needs to be driven more. And they likely didn't have the tone shift on which scoops the mid a bit.
More of these blinds with Rob pls 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Blindfold challenges are always good for a laugh!
You really not talked long enough about HOW good Rob was.You need to party him! I'm THAT impressed. For me it''s unbelievable how he nailed one amp after another. Unbelievable. MAXIMUM RESPECT!
That 6505 mini is such a BEAST! Factoring that its only $499 it destroys almost any other amp on earth!
11:28 - A wild Fluff appears. :) Excellent editing as always gents!
The Orange amp sounded great, but my favourite was the Peavey. Great gain sound, but still articulate
It would be awesome if you guys just had a video talking about the state of the industry (Fender, Gibson PRS) and their prices and such. And also play them all. For sure.
I just like the way Blackstar amps sound. I know I might be a little biased, because I have one, but seriously though.
I love these blindfold videos for the comedic value I hate them because they remind me that people can play better me even if they're blind
I could almost understand all of this information. Good job, good team.
This was the best video yet! I could not stop laughing, especially when he identified the tiny Hotone.
NGL, I had this on in the background and I had to doubletake at the Hotone. I'd record with that every day.
That's the thing about the tweaker, takes a while to dial in your tone. But when you do, it's heavenly
‘Action Lee-Play’. Love it haha
Wonderful video!
You used the peavey on the lead channel aswell, that's why it has soo incredibly much gain. Although the rhythm channel is savage too.
