Blind Test // 80s EBM / Industrial #2 - Episode 26 (Electronic Beats TV)
Музыка
For number 26 in our Blind Test series we once again head back to the 80s and its iconic EBM / Industrial releases which paved the way for many more to come. Joining us this time we have amalgamation of people involved in these genre’s from Frontline Assembly member Rhys Fulber and Optimo Music artist Curses through to music journalist, DJ and producer Chloe Lula and Cuban-American artist and sound designer, Blush Response, known for his modular synth focused sound. Also joining us is Zone label boss The Hacker plus French producer and Planete Rouge Records owner, Terence Fixmer.
Please note that this video is not filmed in real time. It’s edited to create some tension so that you in front of the screen can guess as well. It doesn’t say anything about how fast the participants recognised the track etc.
All contestants receive one point for both artist and title correct, but only half a point if they can only guess the artist or the title.
Production: Sense Music & Media for Electronic Beats TV
Idea, Recordings and Track selection: Holger Wick
Edit and Graphics: Klara Mottlova
Production Supervisor: Romi Agel

I would of had a tough time beating you guys on this one. I forgot track titles and forgot In Sotto Voce , Portion Control (not my fave one from them) and that Borghesia one I don't know. Also mixed up Tribunturia for another Techno Drome release. As Hacker said old age and memory. LOLz.... Now we need to do a face off with Joey vs me(Adam X). for the EBM crown.

I saw Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb just second to last weekend live. Man, it was soooooooo good. And Frontline Assembly will play in my area within the next 2 or 3 months here in Germany. Never saw them back in the days. Saw the Klinik, Test Department, Skinny Puppy and lots of other EBM during the 80ths. Only good memory.

EBM/Industrial is part of my life for more than 30 years now and still helps me getting through it. It's dark but also gives You energy!
Portion Control “Great Divide” was a huge hit back in the 1980s in Chicago radio stations including WBMX 102.7 FM. Hot Mix 5 used to play that song in the mixes over and over with Chicago house, Italo Disco and etc.

Slovenija represent! BORGHESIA ❤
80s EBM is the best EBM
These kind of video's always inspire me to listen to different kinds of music
Rhys is the man ! FLA is one of the main reasons i got inte electronic Music at all
what an unbelievable sympathetic group this is. i could listen to them for hours, going on and on about the memories those records bring back to them. well done, whoever curated that "line up" regarding both the guests as well as the records
Here in Spain at Valencia all this music exploded into a social phenomenpn of clubs called "la ruta del bacalao" or "ruta destroy" art, dressings.... Anda of course dance....
I'm from Slovenia and i certainly didn't expect Slovenian band here. This is great! :D

Wow, that was the golden era of EBM for sure! I grew up in the eighties and 1988 I got a mix tape from a friend. It blew my mind. I had listened to musicals and new wave and classical before as a kid. But THIS was now my music. I remember going through school with Front 242, portion control, DAF in my Sony Walkman. I was a total geek, but I felt cool : )

I had the same experience - I'd always liked synthpop and was getting heavily into Depeche Mode in early 1989, met a friend at school who made me a tape with 242, Nitzer, Weathermen, Skinny Puppy, Clock DVA, The Shamen. a;GRUMH... my musical landscape was never the same again.

I know very little about this scene but I LOVE the music, thanks for sharing the joy and knowledge these people have
Apart from this format being my favorite one on yt, I wanted to give a massive shout out to especially the hacker and fixmer whom got me interested in electronic music production at all. And saving up for all the gear of course, you got me started. Thank you to all of the peeps facing this test. I coincidentally listened to „first album“ of miss kittin and the hacker a couple of weeks ago. When I bought this record initially I was 15 and couldn’t even reach the turntable at hardwax store in Berlin. So I bought it without listening, while the cool guy at the cashier told me it’s a decent investment for the future. Like good wine it not only aged well, it’s still a superior produced record nowadays. Thx to @telekom electronic beats for keeping me aware of the true legends and introducing me of their most important inspiration.
Really thanks for this kind of content, it makes me discover new gems everytime
Fixmer and The Hacker - I knew it would be good
I absolutely LOVE this

What a great episode with so many inspirations for me! Well done!
I had Curses' problem where the artists came easy but the titles just aren't there. In my case, it's usually because I listen to albums in entirety rather than picking tracks, and never had to select tracks for playlists. Loved this episode. I'm biased!
Very cool, thanks ! And the quality of the editing is back to fun !
Great selection of tracks, pure gold. Thanks for another great episode, I really enjoyed!
You guys are the best. Don't ever stop this show.
Grew up on FLA but you're introducing me to so much more. A must watch as always from TEB!

Beautiful collection of classic tracks. Loved the first part very much, too! ❤️
This is all new to me and some of those tracks hit a nerve, fantastic stuff and great panel of experience and knowledge.
Another great round, can't say I listened to this stuff back in the day as I was a metal head back then. But WOW! some of that sounded amazing and still fresh.
This was fun. Although I only got 3.5 points..... Also nice to see some true legends participate. Thanks
Rhys! Of course he'd know a lot. Great guy.
Another great episode! I never miss one. It’s a pleasure to see Amato and Fixmer… and discover some new artists like Chloe, Rhys….and nice tunes. Thanks from Brazil.

Thanks a lot for this episode. Forgotten memories of industrial youth surfaced : ) Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb... Front 242. It was so much fun watching this... couldn't fall asleep after My morning started with Geography, thanks to you :)

Love the format :-) Discovered new stuff and made me realize I know shit about 80's EBM :-D
Once again EB thanks, never a expert on this type of music, I would know most of the artists, but for example I love DAF, but if you listen to the early 80s stuff you can hear the influence it had on Detroit techno.

F242. Love this sound.. the dark vocals
80s EBM is top shelf for me.
Thanks for that one! Good memories. No wonder everybody guessed “a split second” on “in sotto voce” - they must have used the same synth sound! I just can’t remember which one now, maybe “bend my body armour”?

great feature... got goosebumps :)
This was amazing. I kept up pretty well, but confess I was tricked by that In Sotto Voce track too. That bassline is so close to A Split Second, "Mambo Witch".
das macht echt Spaß-mehr davon.
This made me realize that I need to delve into some of the artists that I missed albums some more. 4.5/9 :( But I loved this vid, great choices!
Sehr gute Auswahl in Musik und Jury !!! :)
Feels like I found something I always knew of but must have forgotten about. I have a lot of music to catch up on.
What the hell, you can’t have Rhys Fulber in here! He was there for the whole thing!
I am not a fan of EMB or Industrial, but this Blind Test series is great no matter what. Thank you!❤
Round 5 I would have guessed A Split Second too. Those synth stabs sound exactly like Rigor Mortis.
Common w 🔥 thanks TEB for the lesson
great memories...!
Industrial was my darker rabbit hole from the early synth pop of Alternative!!!!
Awesome Episode...
Best one yet. 🖤💜🖤
i love watching these djs and producers squirming trying to figure out the track. and i want that modal 002 sooooooooooo bad.
2,5 points! I started great then it was.... Aaargh I heard this one, what's it called? Great show guys! Never skipped a Blind Test.
Loved it! If you ever do one of these again, maybe consider getting Ecki Stieg on board. I think he would fit right into this :)
Love most of the music... last track is my favourite from the list. But in this test, I would be soooo lost. Born in Czechoslovakia, in 1983 - we did not have this music and when electronic music hit us in 90', the scene was turning already into commercial stuff bluff.
One my all time EBM favourites from italy: Victrola - Maritime Tatami 🖤🖤
Time for a goa trance blind test!
Very good collection I got skinny puppy and portion control
Tribantura - Lack of Sense is one of the best EBM tracks of all time.

Only one I missed was Psyche. This was a really good selection. I'm low key kinda surprsied that it took some of the group so long to recognize Smothered Hope. Going on 40 years later that song is STILL a staple at damn near every goth night I've been to.
