    Ok. MORE OF THIS TYPE OF TEST PLEASE. My suggestions: *Cheap long grain rice vs premium. *Cheap olives vs premium. *Cheap tinned mushrooms vs premium. (seriously, any tinned veg vs premium would work) *Cheap cocoa powder vs premium. *Cheap honey vs premium. *Cheap vanilla extract vs cheap artificial vanilla vs premium. *Cheap popcorn vs premium/gourmet. What about tinned beans vs soaked? There is a price and effort difference there. Flour would be difficult to do for an international audience; Canadian white all purpose flour is considered "strong" flour (read: categorised differently from the rest of the world because, let's face it, we're crazy). Salt may be difficult, and pepper. Seasonings though, would have to be dried vs dried (cheap vs premium vs home dried maybe?) That's all I have to suggest...

    I made sushi with 3 different times with 3 different brands of sushi rice priced between 1.5 Euro and the most expensive (A Japanese brand) was 3 Euro per 500 grams. The 3 Euro ones was much much better! So much better that it made a huge difference in terms of taste. I got a similar result with Basmati Rice. I live in Bulgaria and we don’t have too many brands of Basmati rice. In my neighborhood there is an Afgani Businessman that sometimes imports a whole shipping container of Basmati rice from Pakistan and it is amazing. So there can be huge differences in rice quality and taste. Sometimes for not that much more money.

    Yes there's a distinct difference in quality in different rice price points. It's a lot like with pasta. Cheap pasta, like cheap rice, has a tendency to overcook very easily and become soggy and mushy, whereas more expensive pasta/rice has more body, and cooks to al dente rather than sludge. Having said that, unless you're cooking something special you don't need top of the line rice or pasta for day to day cooking. The standard brands like kings(for rice) or Barilla(for pasta) are fine. Not top quality, but not bargain basement either.

  • @SophieHatterLeFay

    @SophieHatterLeFay

    Жыл бұрын

    yeah that's not a difference in price. that's a difference in species. around me basmati rice is the most expensive and they are delicious in a curry. the next up is sushi rice. and you absolutely cannot cook sushi with basmati. you also cannot substitute cheaper things like plain rice (cheapest) or the slightly more expensive jasmine rice for sushi. curries also don't taste as good without the basmati, the rice just aren't fluffy and individually spread in the sauce with anything else. but they are also all at wildly different price points, with very little real difference when you're sourcing the same type of rice.
