Great video Rikki, I don't believe I ever explored that building back in the day, it always fascinates me to learn the history that sits at certain locations. There was a place my friends and I would go explore back in the 90's up Desoto and it was called the "Nike missile launch site LA-88", we explore the decommissioned base and went down into the silos where they housed the missiles that protected Los Angeles from possible Russian attack. I'm not sure if it had any Legends or mysteries, but its definitely a place to investigate San Fernando valley history.

1/You indicate, correctly, that this structure was built AFTER Bear’s house was destroyed, but still write that this IS the house where Alan died. 2/ Half the time you correctly refer to Hite as the vocalist, then mistakenly call him the guitarist. 3/ As is apparent by furniture in place, this second home was finished before it’s destruction. Are you reading from two different sources?

@@lazur1This house has nothing to do with Canned Heat. It was built in the 90s. Bob’s house is down the road from this house.
8:15..Although Bob played guitar occasionally after Alan died, he was not a guitar player but the singer and sometimes harp player.
I was super stoked to see this one and to learn that you share my feeling about the significance of Canned Heat and to see you exploring that incredible wasted carcass of the Bear's old house that I have wondered about so many times. Every time I drive past it, I am amazed. It seems not that many people realize how influential Canned Heat really were, and remain. So much more to this band than "Goin' Up The Country", they were/ are astonishingly talented and pivotal, even though they were essentially re-imagining Mississippi delta blues from an earlier era, they actually revitalized and made it their own. Not to mention actually finding Son House in relative obscurity and re-learning him his own songs, as the story goes. Each member brought something special, but in my opinion, Blind Owl was the inspirational genius and the beating heart of this group, while he lived. To have been declared by John Lee Hooker to be the greatest harmonica player ever is no small feat. And they are interwoven into the history of my beloved Topanga Canyon in so many ways.

Very respectfully done. Love Canned Heat and own all of their original albums. Alan Wilson was a true musical genius.
Alans guitar playing, harmonica playing were amazing- but his haunting, expressive vocals get me every time. We can only imagine what if... Now, it's believed he was probably autistic. My youngest son (13) was diagnosed at a young age. He has many talents, but he is an incredible artist. He's also very forgetful, and shares similar traits, which gives me hope.
It was Bob Hite’s house, he was Al’s best friend and lead singer, not guitarist for Canned Heat
Flooding up in Topanga gets really bad.
Your outings and adventures never disappoint! Keep them coming!!!
Tragic to have someone with that amount of talent and that young to commit suicide. It’s always a tragedy and people need to go seek help if they’re in that emotional state.
Good work on this! Just saw Canned Heat this past Saturday, (April 2022) in NJ....Fito de la Parra can still swing at 76.
I absolutely love your videos I watch and share each and every one! Loved the iron worker comment. I’m Irish on both sides of my family and iron workers tend to be Irish. Snd I’m also pretty fearless when it comes to heights, myself. I can’t wait for this damn pandemic to be over so I can see poison again!
Me and two of my band mates went over there about a year or 2 ago and just brought our guitars to hang out and see it since we’re all big fans and I’m not even kidding you we all heard a harmonica bend out of nowhere near the back end, got scared n left but it must’ve been Allen
So rare when the drummer is the last dude standing . RIP
I love Topanga, up in the canyon, and high up Tuna Canyon. Fernwood Market used to have the best muffins in LA. When I worked in LA as a writer, I used to go up to Topanga to escape the city.

Rikki: As they might say on radio, "Fan from day 1 but I'm a new viewer." I must commend you on your efforts to bring this history to a new audience and give relatively obscure (by modern standards) artists their due credit. You'r3 really sticking your neck out here getting to these sites and it's quite admirable. Keep up the outstanding work!
Alan’s story is so sad.
GREAT BAND, GOT ALL THERE ALBUMS, GREAT EPISODE.
Met a Ricky Rocket from Humboldt at a rest stop had a old creepy coffin he bought off some Indians that was strapped to the roof of his car. Seemed like a cool dude. Thanks for the tour. I love trespassing! Nice to meet you and Love the Life you Live!
So funny I searched u cuz u were my favorite drummer for my favorite band growing up and i find that your doing these legend tripping videos which is my favorite interest too haha. Definitely keep the videos coming. I've watched 2 and already love it. And I watched the one where u ask which direction u should take the channel. I would definitely keep it as legend tripping only. People can see u do other stuff through other Google searches. Love this channel!
That is so sad and it’s nice to have someone acknowledge him. You don’t see that often. Also I was holding my breath as you walked through there hoping you wouldn’t fall even though you’re clearly ok as it’s posted on KZread lol
I hope you carry some kind of protection going to places like that.
Loved the video Rikki! Always interesting!! 🤘🤘
Yes Rikki, Thank you! Great visit! And actually walking around!
Love these kind of videos!!❤

Hey Rikki, greetings from Mechanicsburg, PA. Great video, I'm a big Alan Wilson fan
Awesome video rikki I really hope you do more videos like this.
Thanks for taking us with you on another interesting outing!
Someone on a show there and say this wasn't the house 🏠 the band members house. This house was built in the 90's and was never finished. They stopped him from building it. The real house is located somewhere else in that area. But not this one,

Ok thanks for explaining it in more detail. Explains a lot thanks! The 27 club they were murdered by the government. I believe anyway. Alan wanted rosewoods and that land was Native American and they stole it. So many were wanting young Pepe to vote back then. Card it rock the vote, they were getting too big. Mamma Cass Elliot was a leader in that. Along with John Denver, John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, many more. Hoover FBI was trying to deport Lennon.
Great video. Definitely do more like this. 🤘
Woo made the debut
Bob Hite wasn't the guitar player in Canned Heat; he was the front man and lead vocalist. The guitars when Alan was alive were played by Alan and by Henry Vestine until the band fired Henry and replaced him with Harvey Mandell just before they played at Woodstock.
A cast member from tv show emergency 51 was stationed in topanga canyon fire station. That's a rough terrain from looks from everything.

I know right where this place in Topanga Canyon is...My Uncle and Aunt live further down.... Topanga Canyon will always have the "hippie vibe" going...That whole lower part of the canyon has always had flooding issues... Love Canned Heat... Thanks!!
Thanks a ton for this video!
this is a really interesting video canned heat was a very unique band the music was amazing great video rikki👍
This is not the Canned Heat house! This house was built in the 90s.
When I was a kid, my much older sister had hippies at the house a lot and they played albums, many of them were Canned Heat. Rikki, I was waiting for the scary part, is there a part2? Love ya!
Great job. Love CH. Read and watch everything I see about them.
Always enjoy your videos. Keep it up. But please be careful as that could have been dangerous and it seemed you were alone.
I sat here and watched the whole video. It was great by the way! Throughout the whole video I’m thinking I’ve seen this guy somewhere. Wasn’t till the end I realized oh….. I actually took a moment to read who’s channel this is.🙄
i just subscribed i dig tripping liike that i didnt know your that cool!! going to binge all your stuff
Groovy man! Far out!
See now this is what's cool about time. I mean, say what you want about poison and Ricky rocket. But what a soulful move on his part. The thing is you can't sound like all your heroes. So you just gotta do what comes natural...You get to pay honor and that's what he's doing right here with Alan Wilson...good job RR
Great vid, but I have so many questions....HA! That original house photo you got, it almost looks like the house was above a creek bed? Also, is it known who exactly owns the property now? Looking at Apple Maps, that area looks pretty nice. I’m sure that other owners in the area do not appreciate that wreckage being there....but what do I know,, maybe they could really care less. Good stuff Double R!

I don't know who owns it now, but yes, it is pretty much a creek albeit dry certain times of the year.
Cool video buddy! My dad always talked about thus...said he took a bunch of "reds" ....horse tranquilizers n passed away in his prime.
Blame 2020..😂 I'm glad it wasn't worse with your eye. Awesome episode. I never knew where he died. Keep up the awesome work and please stay safe. 💙
That was very interesting.
Excellent guitarist, sad ending
I will give it to you this you are one brave man to cross over those rickety boards. I am playing catch-up I love your channel and content. Stay strong, safe, and rocking.
Yes
Canned heat are amazing great music never gets old. The 27 club is kind of interesting in itself. There are so many great musicians and singers that passed at that age it's an interesting if morse commonality . Some of the good and great of the music industry dying so young. So much lost potential and talent ; bright flames burning intensely before they died. That in itself raises all kinds of questions about the mental health impact of fame early on. I enjoy hearing you talk about your views on musicians and music past and present informed opinions are always interesting. The legend tripping videos are always interesting some not all give me real ebbie gebbies at certain points. I have subscribed to your motorcycle channel as well. I love bikes but can't ride anymore as I have major balance issues...but still enjoy the debate around classic versus street bikes versus dirt bikes. Classic bikes were my Dad's thing . Triumphs and Norton's...he was one of the first people in this country to have metal plates fitted in his leg after his bike went under a lorry....very dubious claim to fame but it saved his leg at that time...although the technique was in its infancy at that point and later the metal work inserted caused havoc but it was effective for decades and saved not only his leg but allowed him to continue his other great love working the land as a farmer.... Well over 50 years on the same farm. His love of bikes fuelled mine . I hope you and your family and loved ones stay well and healthy . Happy New year to you all. kind regards D.
Rikki, Great video. I do think you'd get more views with a longer title. Maybe with Blind Owl's name in it or the band. Much Respect!
Loved Canned Heat! 8 track days.
Love Topanga ...Blessings from Northeast Alcatraz U.K. 💯❤️🐝
Loved there 🎶 music
@boopah4365 Your info is very accurate. Also their lead guitarist at the time and for many years was Henry 'sunflower ' Vestine.Good stuff

Very interesting 🤗♥️
Quite sad
I'm surprised Rikki didn't take his kids on this one.
Looks great after his health scare. One of the most underrated drummers, that I used to set my drum machine to one of his known techniques- bass drum, splash, bass, crash. Always dug that sound. And an overall cool dude
You are a brave soul to walk those beams.
