I was inspired to produce a piece that spoke to me during these times of deep international unrest and global uprisings. The pain and sorrow I’ve felt and that our communities have been feeling for all those that are suffering from the atrocities of violence and oppression has felt unbearable these past weeks. As we all seem to be so busy all the time with all of our personal agendas, it’s important to also stop sometimes and look around and notice the subtleties in what we are transmitting and exchanging and how that affects the greater being that is humanity. From there we can begin again to see each other with more compassion and in awe of our beautiful cultural differences rather than our tragic flaws.
I’ve been really connecting with this incredible artist Blick Bassy these past months and felt that his track “One Love” was a perfect message to bring us back into our awareness of that we are all one world family. That the borders, walls, and politics of division and separation, of greed and warfare, of domination and aggression, only exist in our minds. When we actively awaken to the sensation in our hearts in gratitude for this life we can feel that we all come from the same Mother, the same oneness, the same source. Now is the time more than ever in our lifetime to speak up and speak out through actions of art, poetry, dance, song, prayer, and express ourselves to put a stop to the unnecessary brutality that our wounded leaders cannot see and are in denial of. Only through this collective work may we attempt to re-frame and re-imagine who we actually want to see in power and how or if we actually want to unite towards that common goal.
All the proceeds of this song will go to Doctors Without Borders (MSF) who are on the frontline in Gaza, Sudan, Afghanistan, and at least +60 other countries as first responders to those most in need. They are an independent, impartial, global team who offers medical humanitarian assistance to people based solely on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation.
