This is my own interpretation of the ending is trying to say: Brawshella, known as the Ringleader, was destroyed by a small band of pilots, who risked their lives in combat to liberate those that were captured by the Ringleader, and ending an interplanetary war that’d lasted for so long at the same time. Our heroes must not rest, however, as peace must be restored all over the galaxy; here’s to hope that such a war on such a scale like this will never happen.

This is my favorite horizontal shmup of all time. Absolutely love the boss music!

I saw it in an arcade back when it was new. I think the Neo Geo logo's appearance was deactivated (it's possible to set it to do that), so not only I was blown away by the graphics - which hold incredibly well for being 3D-modeled - and the music, I realized it was a NG game only years later. The system is remembered mostly for fighting games and Metal Slug but it's often forgotten it was also home to several excellent shooters. I hope you'll do more of them, like Zed Blade and Last Resort!

That baby boss completely threw me off. Definitely didn't expect that!

It was on the third day of the local anime convention when I first played this game. On that morning, on the way to the convention, I passed by a picket line of anti-abortionists. So, when I reached the final level of Blazing Star, my reaction to this was "Oh man, those people are gonna kill me...".

you know what ironic? when an "event item" appears, it will say "Hey! an event item comes!" and the item resembles Navi the fairy from Zelda Ocarina of time which was released in the same year but 10 months and 2 days later (sorry for being specific)

@@pretzel6629 Within the files of the first game, you can find 2 large backgrounds featuring artwork in addition to a dummy art image of the team announcing Pulstar II which would later become Blazing Star (originally with the working title Pulstar Blast)

Don't panic baby boss attack! lol . Great game an R-Type clone , the huge battleship reminds me to one level from R-Type that green battleship .

I remember playing this on a Arcade Cabinet.

Awesome game with great sound! I wish I had time to play it.

Nice. I did play quite a few times at the arcade. Even as an ESL the engrish amused me a lot. While the game isn't super well known many people were familiar with the "YOU FAIL IT" meme, haha...

Nathan Alexandre seen the screencap and a few image macros posted all over forums in the early 00s... I'd call that a meme.

The graphics in this game, especially the sprite animations, are utterly beautiful. Too bad the difficulty is just as infuriating as stepping onto a meadow of Legos. Eh, that was old-school horizontal space shooters for ya.

@@benjamincontrerastorres4018 I'm late towards this convo but the angles work as multipliers for the bonus items you collect. There's even a trick for stage 1 to force a rainbow angle to spawn just before the big waves of popcorn foes that each drop a bonus item, maxing out the bonus value for all items as long as you don't miss any for the rest of the game. It's fore sure though one of those things that requires years of playing this game and knowing when to let things just fly past you (to not spawn bonus items you'd be unable to collect and as such lose the score) and when to attack. Even going so far as to let a few bosses time out as you get more score from the bonuses then you would defeating them.

*OK Im gonna say this....Whatever those two little pods are made out of the main ship should be made out of. They took hit after hit with no effect! XD*

The best thing about taking inspiration from R-Type.

Oh my, when I was a child I always think all that "Brawshella" did is try to fight and survive with his baby instinct. Imagine what he can do in his fully matured form and mind.

Coming to the PS4 later today. Cannot wait for the PSN Store to update. Also cannot wait to get RiME for free.

When I can't enjoy some fireworks, I play or Watch Blazing Star!

well, the hitbox of the ship is quite small (if you have seen other shooting games, bullets can go thru the ship in the same way, the developers do that in order to put a bullet hell on the screen )

Interesting game, same guys behind Prehistoric Isle 2. Interesting how all horizontal or vertical shooters used hybrid between 2D and Pre-rendered 3D during this era. Nobody makes these types of games anymore. Also wtf is with the final boss? That background is really disturbing, is that supposed to be the inside of a vag?

I believe the story (yes this game have a story) is that Brawlshella (the baby) is a weapon developed by the aliens during the war between the two planets that looks like Earth and Mars (the two planets in the intro), but Brawlshella went berserk as it devoured life on both planets and turned the main characters except Kaoru and Naomi Yamazaki into machines. The final stage that holds Brawlshella actually contains the green substance that was once lifeforms before they were devoured by Brawlshella.
