Dear Mr. Husker, it’s April, 2023, so you may not ever see this, but, like a message in a bottle, I will post it anyway. I have been watching “Blazing Saddles” since it first came out in the mid seventies. I consider it one of the truly iconic movies of my generation, the kind of movie that everyone who grew up in that era can quote and be reasonably sure that their fellow old codgers will immediately understand the reference. That being said, after almost fifty years of being a fan, until I saw your comment from approximately 2020, about Hedley Lamarr’s all but inaudible comment as he leaves the bathroom toward the end of the movie, I had never even noticed it. So thank you for adding just one more reason for me to continue to rewatch and enjoy one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

I really think Hedley Lamarr's speech to the bad guys about to attack Rock Ridge should be included. "Men, you are about to embark on a Great Crusade to stamp out runaway decency in the West. Now you men will only be risking your lives, whilst I will be risking an almost certain Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. " (Great Crusade was a gag referencing Eisenhower's message to the troops on the eve of D-Day.)

@@playboymaxim NO One is offended by Blazing Saddles. NO ONE. A lot of people THINK there are people who are offended, but they're not. It comes down to this: Blazing Saddles drops N bombs. It has characters in the movie dropping N bombs in a derogatory way. The thing is, the people using that language like that are idiots. They're portrayed as idiots. They're the butt of the jokes. The bad guys. They're morons. Most people get that. Where the "people find this movie offensive" canard comes in is from people who have in their life or known people who in their life dropped N bombs in derogatory ways - maybe not to actual people of color - but used the word to refer to people of color. And they were able to do that in their own circle WITHOUT being called ignorant or racist because that was "normal" to them and their circle of people. Times have changed. NOW (for like the last 50 years) there's more of an understanding of the history involved with the language and MOST people refrain from using that language, certainly in everyday conversation. Then, they see Blazing Saddles and they hear the N bombs and think, "That's supposed to be wrong (but it doesn't bother me) so it MUST offend OTHER people" who get bent out of shape when a white dude calls a black person that word. They're missing the point. The people using that language in the movie are idiots, the bad guys, the butt of the joke. Let me say this again - no one is offended by Blazing Saddles and the idea that there's some cadre of people "offended" by the movie is just self stroking bullshit. "All those "PC" people who hate this movie but not me!" Go to any Blazing Saddles video clip and you will find NOT ONE person bitching about the movie but , lordy, the people bitching about all the people who are supposedly "offended by the movie," "trying to ban it," "PC snowflakes trying to get this taken down" (videos usually having been up for years), comments like that galore.
