I need one of these. The bunker I bought still uses a blast door like this but its circular and uses a vault style hand closure system.

Reminds me as a bigger, uglier version of the blast doors I saw at Cheyenne Mountain when I was stationed there only they were single doors, one positioned right behind the other.

Those are the white ones with the some components visible on the inner side, right? I've been wondering if Raven Rock has the same kind.

@Cool. I don't know why they have clear plexiglass instead of a solid metal covering. I like the way it looks, though. Anyway, it must have been a privilege to work there.

@@projectatlas4400 It was definitely an experience. I had become chummy with the Command Center director over our shared interest in fishing the high mountain lakes. He managed to get my wife included on a VIP tour of the whole mountain and 40 years later she still talks about the experience.

@@davidangelamelcher9591 Based on footage from documentaries and reading I can see why your wife would still talk about it! I must've been about 9 when I first heard of Cheyenne Mountain on Discovery channel. 20 years and I still have a fascination with bunkers. The whole complex sounds like one of the best examples of engineering in the world. Colorado seems like a nice place to fishing, too!

Hardly blast proof. I can still see between and under the doors. That's also a huge amount of exposed surface area without a frame to buffer against. Also what was all that popping racket while the doors were moving? Frame & hinges bending? Support wheels digging into the floor?

What looks like a gap might just be the metal strip that you can see on the floor where the door goes, and the black looking spots are because they have seals to block gases

The only attachment points are the hinges, unless there are a few expanding pins that lock into the top and bottom of the frame.

It's a missile storage facility. The blast door is only to protect the missles from fires, threats, ect. It's not supposed to be a locking mechanism, I don't believe.

do you think if a fully loaded tractor trailer going 100 miles an hour and bust through it? or if a track was put behind the door and a train carrying freight went full speed into it would it barge through? what do you guys think

What makes a bunker unbreachable is not the thickness of its door but the anonymity of its location. If someone knows where your bunker us, they can breach it. Thermite, I believe it is called.
