@@Mythic_3clipse Yes you need white sphere thingy which you find close to one of the statues (cant remember which one) it gets slowly tainted with guilt, once its tainted black you need to equip it in order to access red teleportal thingys after you destroy a statue.

So a lot of people in the comments are saying that the Miracle was over when The Penitent One killed himself but what exactly about "Penance never ends, but changes, hurts and condemns at will" and "There is no place for the Penitent One on the other side of the dream. His place is here, among us" makes you think that before Crisanta pulled out the sword, everything bad happening in Cvstodia would've ended. I mean, Deogracias literally says that it would've been over, but the plans of the Miracle prevent this. Next, we learn that the Penitent One is now the new Father and the last son of the Miracle (oh hey look more evidence that pre-Crisanta the suffering would continue like under Escribar) and then Crisanta prevents this by pulling out the sword and saying "and thus... shall your name be erased under the heavens...". A lot of people seem to think that Crisanta is a zealot and that this action is an attempt to continue on the worship of the Miracle. Um, did we just watch the same scene? Because we literally saw her kill the new religious head of the church who was undergoing the same process as Escribar. These are not the actions of someone wishing to uphold the faith, but instead the actions of someone trying to stamp it out. After her battle with the Penitent One and the subsequent defeat of Escribar she becomes disillusioned with her faith, not more zealous. In summation, Crisanta is not opening up some new fresh box of punishment for the land of Cvstodia, but instead preventing the rise of a new Escribar. Being seemingly high ranking in the church she would know the origins of Escribar and his transformation, when seeing the marching throngs of people worshiping the Penitent One while he undergoes the same changes she decides to actively defy the will of the Miracle and puts an end to it. Anyway, that's my take, if there is some piece of evidence that destroys my entire argument go ahead and reply telling me.

Two things I like to add is that The Penitent One is working for the miracle. This is explained when your given the thorn from Deogracias and says "...The thorns arised from the Miracle feed on sin and guilt, growing with the burden that its bearer carries." This item later grows when destroying the Statues of Confessors. Which are statues the people of Cvstodia use to confess sin(use it to absorb sin and guilt). The destroying of the statues is required for the good/true ending. Aswell as getting a item called the "Immaculate Bead". Which gets filled with guilt after you die a few times and gets turned into the "Weight of guilt" this is explained in its item description. Which reads "Bead completely tainted that has absorbed the sins of its wearer until completely filled... Statues of Confessors used to carry beads like this, reaping Guilt from repentant parishioners." So the Penitent One is going around absorbing sin and then kill himself as his last repentance then getting turned into a tree(The Last son of the Miracle), and because of this he doesn't come back to life and thus detain all the guilt. Another thing I would like to add is that Crisanta is also working for The Miracle this is implied when the narrator says "[T]he plans of The Miracle are [unpredictable]..." The narrator is basically saying it wanted to Crisanta to pull the sword form The Penitent One and the narrator furthers this point in the rest of the quote when they say "...Penance never ends, but changes, hurts and condemns at will." Pretty well saying what The Penitent One did didint save Cvstodia it just changed out they get punished for the sins. She is also the one who throws you into the pile of body's you find yourself in at the beginning of the game which you learn from the comic strip for this game. This doesn't prove my point its just another source to understand this story better. And by the way the people who created this game are Spanish. So much like dark souls when it comes to Japanese, a Spanish version of this game probably has better meaning for what the developers intended to say. And this is art at the end of the day. There are infinite interpretations depending on how you view it.

I have three theories of what would be the continuation of this wonderful game 1) Crisanta defeats the Penitent and becomes the new youngest Daughter of the Father, (that is, she will have to find all the items on her journey for this, which does not make much sense, unless the power of the Penitent has crossed the borders of Cvstodia) 2) Crisanta joins the Penitent, dividing the burden and prayers of the faithful, as well as guarding or hiding the only weapon capable of killing them, the Mea Culpa sword. 3) Crisanta seals the Penitent and the Miracle at the cost of his life, destroying the sword mea culpa, for a time Cvstodia is free from the Miracle, for a while, then everything comes back again. In these three theory, there is no way to extinguish the Miracle, it is like trying to raise or extinguish the flame of Dark Souls, both are never extinguished or sealed, only on the day that the developers do not earn more money and then seal or put it in the "refrigerator for a time".

I don’t really think this is right tbh. The way I see it is that Crisanta’s jealously got the best of her. She was Escribar’s second in command and leader of the Anointed Legion. It was Crisanta and her warriors who under the order of the Pontiff, massacred the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow since they were plotting to end Escribar’s authoritarian rule and stamp the madness out. Killing Escribar results in a “SUMMA BLASPHEMA” titlescreen, so the fact that a heretic rose to the same level of Escribar after he communed with the Miracle revolted Crisanta so much she’d doom the world rather then let a heretic absolve everyone’s collective sins.

Not quite. If you get the bad ending, you die in the ash pile, having failed in gaining the... I dunno, guilt needed to reach the top. Your helmet is put on a pile of others, showing that unless you get the good ending, the cycle continues. If you get the good ending, the cycle ends and the curse of the Grievous Miracle ends... until the penultimate boss yanks out the sword, undoing your sacrifice and ruining everything.

First Last it sounds the same as dark souls to me This good ending is the equivalent of not continuing the fire and plunging the world into darkness so that a new age of fire can come after the darkness becomes too great. The bad ending is losing humanity in dark souls-dying too much and forgetting oneself becoming an enemy. The bad ending is also the equivalent of keeping the flame going.

Will Nyx He's more like a martyr. All his seek for redemption end in ungrateful sacrifice. No side for him out of the dream world neither heavens, just a symbol of hope but there's nothing like that cuz at the end of the path for redemption, miracle always tricks so you became a sinner with no redemption, It seems that this is the origin of mea culpa shrines.

I will play devil's advocate for a bit, but why is everyone hating on Crisanta when she basically did the same thing The Penitent One did in the beginning. He pulled the sword from the martyred woman in the intro, releasing the miracle and restarting the cycle. He had the same self-righteous belief that he had to take the sword and go on a quest to make everything right, and Crisanta did the same thing albeit in a more fanatical way because she held a grudge against him. Nevertheless she will end up continuing the same cycle that was going on before The Penitent One, which would also explain all the other helmets in the bad ending. Others before him tried to do the same, including the woman in the beginning but the cycle is always doomed to repeat itself whether they succeed or fail in their quest. Crisanta will either succeed or fail too, and in case she succeeds, someone else will just end up pulling Mea Culpa from her chest as well. Apparently that's the punishment for people's fanatical self-righteousness in the world of Cvstodia.

I'm pretty sure that the woman in the beggining created Mea Culpa from her guilt, while The Miracle was already present in the world for centuries. In additional comic there is a rotten guy who leads The Penitent One to the statue, and he explains that his condition is caused by The Miracle. This means that the woman's statue didn't hold anything within it aside from Mea Culpa itself. So there was nothing to release from the woman's statue. In fact, the guilt is accomulated during the game. In the bad enging you are unable to perform the communion with the sword, because the guilt of the world isn't even there, and the torn, given by Deogracias has not grown. Also in the comic, Crisanta says that she and The Penitent One are the opposite, but complimentary. This supports the notion that what she does in the end is not an act of penance, but the opposite - a self rightious foolishness. I think it points to the possible sequel and I hope we get to finish her off in a most gruesome manner Oh and she is also blind because of her vow, which is a pretty obvious symbolism

Good points. I did check out the prequel comic(it's called Blasphemous: The Kneeling) and Crisanta was indeed the one who killed The Penitent One and left his body in the pile of corpses of his brotherhood, in whose massacre she apparently participated as well. She brings his body there because she says that if he's truly the chosen one, the Miracle would revive him. I do hope we get a sequel down the line.

Remember the intro, it shows the Penitent One pulling out the sword and immediately after, the narration goes "And thus..." explaining how the miracle was sweeping the land, once more. So he may have started the cycle, after all. The original miracle may always have been around, but it only seems to go rampant after it is disturbed.

The miracle arrived when Escribar turned his back and his throne on Cvstodia. It manifested by transforming him into a giant tree, than setting him on fire. When he was nothing but ash, everyone tried to climb the mountain to reach the throne at the top, sinking down, because they were weighed down by their sins and their guilt. When they re-emerged, they were the monsters we face. The nun at the beginning begged the miracle for punishment to ease her guilt, and the miracle responded by transforming the idol she was beating her chest with into the Mea Culpa.

So I could be wrong but from what I've gathered, "the Miracle" is actually a divine punishment/curse for Custodia for their sins (being such oppressive and corrupt theocracy). The Pontiff who was ruling the country wasn't really a bad guy and knew this very well but was powerless and couldn't do much about it, and somehow he became the vessel of punishment himself (Last Son of Miracle) by divine will after some act of penance. But Custodians insists it's "miracle" and even take it as blessing because they are so damn fanatical. The Penitent One dies for their sins in the "good ending" thus ending the curse...for now.

I think you nailed it. And oh great, the last thing we see is the Custodian chick removing the sword. An act born out of hubris and malice. Deogracias makes it sound like this releases the Miracle once again; albeit in a new form. I hope those guys that kiss wounds are still in business...

So the Penitent One took the place of the first guilt tree, and after him, Cresanta.....so the villain is the narrator, who guides us through the wrong path and onto the delusional conclusion, which binds us here, on "this side of the dream"....so the Pope actually escaped to the other side of the dream, and maybe Cresanta hunt him down on a dlc or uber secret ending....but always remember, the narrator is the villain

@@TenebrisGladius its really hard to tell that he is a villain. If he is, he should be against your path but he never really tried to. His role is really just a narrator simply because of how he is there to simply bear witness (even if he is wearing a mask) the story that will unfold. We cant be certain about deogracias role when he only has a small bit of lore. Afterall, in order to get the good ending, you need to understand what's really going on and figure out the hidden meaning of it all. Deogracias really has nothing to do with that ending so, he is simply there to observe. The bad/normal ending could simply suggest a cycle when in the beginning, there are many of his look alikes/doppleganger laying on the floor suggesting that there were more like the penitent one/protagonist. I really don't how and why we're there like him and why so many, and at the same time, what happened to them in first place? It really needs more analysis but we could confirm that there's a plan and it looks like a cycle that has repeat or was prepared to repeat the cycle of the penitent one's journey. (feel free to disagree cause the lore is still vague)

Blasphemous indeed. I think I kinda get it. The previous ending I saw was he was just another passerby and died nothing to gain, like the others despite their efforts (but mercy in remain for a deed as a penitent one), perhaps he wasn't granted, but is he now forgiven? And now here, the new "Father" as what mentioned, with a capital "F" which states "Father the Almighty", he "saved" the corrupted world and sacrificed himself, truly quite close enough from Christian history. We do know that this game is highly influenced in Roman Catholicism and there are 7 doctrines that Catholics need to practice in order to enter paradise for normal people (according to them) but this one is a penitent and let's assume his deed is different. People worships to their new god (or saint) and based from history to today's era, do catholics worships saints (Mother Teresa, St. Lucia, Sto. Nino etc.)? But there are always people who mocks and condemns like what happened to Jesus Christ in millennia. I'm not Catholic that's why I asked questions. I'm not against religion either just in case I triggered some, I only came here in peace and don't get me wrong, I enjoy this game as well.

We don't worship saints. We ask them to pray for us. Anyway, this game just seems like pabulum to me, with the final dialogue and narration amounting to theological word salad. It's obviously inspired from Catholic iconography, but from all that I can tell it's very much its own dark fantasy universe, and nothing in it rings particularly true from a Catholic perspective.

My interpretation after Eventide: This ending satisfies The Miracle for a time until it decides to usher in a new Age of Penance. Humanity will always sin, and one act of communion with the Miracle on behalf of them will only be enough for a time to satisfy the High Wills and in part, the Miracle, in their campaign for immortality. Crisanta removing the blade would restart the Age of Penance immediately, freeing the PO from his suffering and erasing his sacrifice for all time.

... Dlc, 3 secret-secret ending or blasphemous 2 confirmed?

Damn that beginning dialogue subtle cussing but very gentlemen

No matter if you lose, or you win, sacrifice yourself and become another saint, cycle will continue.

The first time I read the name of the final boss of this game, Escribar, I could not help but remembering Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer, Spanish Catholic priest, founder of Opus Dei. This Escriva had no superpowers, but was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002.

The sword of guilt is missing in the artwork at 8:30 but we later see it being pulled off him.

The music for this game is incredible.

Looks like Crisanta is gonna become the main villainess and final boss of Blasphemous 2. I really hope that the Penitent One can come back for the sequel to finish what he started and make Crisanta face her own crimes too. Cause what she just did is going to doom the world all over again, and everyone's gonna hate her so much for that.

For the first question yes, in order to get it you need to finish the quest of the old pilgrim guy for it. He ends up in a room the statue, you need to equip all the beads he gave you along the way and the statue will reveal the passage. Enter and leave said passage a few times and the relic will be inside.

Just so people know, they announced dlc for this game. You play as some golden skull lady, who is possibly Crisanta? There's almost no clues about it and I don't know if it's still in development.

So the story is all memorial statue of saint after you finish the game The bosses you fought are the ones like you.. but killing them all makes you become the first twisted type of saint.

Guess he became some sort of a captive saint that keeps this Grevious Miracle at bay, unable to fully die and asscend to the Heavens. Until that bitch you fight before the final boss pulls your sword out of you, probably releasing what you sealed again

I think that the Big Bad is the pope, the MC wants to end this Miracle business, and in the true ending he gets to the throne, to cross over into "the other side of the Dream", whatever that is (maybe their version of Heaven?), and cut off the Miracle, turning the world back to normal. But he gets denied and turned into a tree-thing, becoming the new pope for the people around, because the Miracle wants to keep Miracleing, I guess. If there's a sequel or DLC, I think we'll see what it is that happens after that person pulls the sword out of the tree-MC, maybe some insight into "the other side of the Dream" and what's the source of the Miracle.

The woman in the opening had the same thing going for her: She sacrificed herself using Mea Culpa(the sword), probably to start the Grievous Miracle and then the Penitent One went there and took the sword out. Then he did the same thing, after his Penitence(because Souls-like games love Words that are used as Things, with the Capital Letter), to end the Grievous Miracle, and he did, but sacrificed his own passage to the afterlife because of this. Then the church bitch who excommunicated him because the church sucks ass, went there and took the sword out, basically going "Ayo, my dude, what you did is Blashpemous(eh? Eh?) as fuck, so we need to keep going with the Grievous Miracle. Give me that sord" and thus the game ends.

@@theGabeson_ But here's the thing, there's a place in the game called the Knot of the Three Words (horheristo has a video where that place is shown), where the first appearance of the Miracle is told to the player (some kid turned into a tree, kinda like the MC), so the first Miracle couldn't possibly be Mea Culpa. Then there's a trailer for the game pretty much telling us that the MC is out to break the cycle of Penance. If Mea Culpa is more important that it seems, or what that woman will do with the sword (or what its relationship is with the Miracle itself), I think we'll just have to wait for new content and see. The game has been out for just 2 days, after all.

Not really but although suicide is a mortal sin but he took all the evil to stop it but this female with a gold armor just remove the sword all of this blasphemous game is like the exact symbolism or representation of Greek mythology plus the mask looks like the KKK or something just my opinion so confirmed i'm guessing part 2 will come out at 2020 or 20XX but it's up to us because freewill is a gift from God. God will pardon us like all the time

I hope they give as game+ And watch some videos of this game they have red sword dont know wer they get that In my gameplay the lady who helps you and heal you in boss fight i use her and she become old and die but she give me shield at the end .... maybe there's a lot of endings in this game

This is actually one of the easier bosses in the game The trick is that you have to move AWAY from the sword to draw it to you. Its programmed to move in your opposite direction And stay in the middle of the screen

Brilliant game.

I belive this is an allegory to the biblical concept of Jesus dying for people's sins. At least my interpritation so far is that during the First Miracle the young man effectevely became a penetent one for all sins. THus why he was silent , he felt nothing but guilt for humanity , and through his act of penance humanity was temporarely relived from Penance. But when escabar turned his throne away from people he invited it all over again , and the Grievous Miracle started affecting everyone in the land , partually through the ASh Pile and the hordes of the miracle , and in general blessing those that carry guilt with Penance. The idea is that the Thot is penatent in blindness , so she blindly follows the voice of the church , for she has no way to see anything on her own. While our guy , The Penetent in silence, can witness everything but has no voice , so this is the only thing he could do , silently comunicate with the Griveous Miracle and become the symbol fo penetence , suffering silently so the rest would be spared the fate that Miracle would bestow upon them. However , the Thor , being Blind in Penatence , couldnt see the results of that action and still carries the will and the voice of Escabar , and that leads to the miracle manifesting itself in the new form and way. Perhaps her fate is to follow Escabar and become the child of the miracle in more ways then just loosing her eyesight, For those unaware , our Penitent is mute , the miracle litteraly cursed away his ability to speak . While the Thot was cursed in the simular passion , but she is blind and cant see. Perhaps she has no eyeballs ? who knows how litteraly the miracle made her blind. Maybe it even striped her of her own free will making her the instrument of the miracle.

She's not an angel. You probably got confused when she said "And thus... Shall your name be erased under the heavens...". She means that he should die. The protagonist stopped the cycle of death and sacrifice with him being the last sacrifice but she undid everything that he did by pulling out the sword thus beginning the cycle once more. The reason why she did this is because she couldn't face the fact that she was defeated so she came back to ruin everything. You can see that of all the bosses that the protagonist fought, she was the only one who escaped alive Edit : I still don't see why this game has anything to do with angels
