    As far as black powder blanks and their power, I used to be involved in a reenactment group and if nothing was going on between shows we would staple balloons up on a target board and break said balloons at 7 - 10 feet. Just something to do to burn powder and make noise. We also did safety demonstrations blowing up Styrofoam cups and badly denting soda cans, we passed around the cans afterward. Great looking kit and a good video.

    You are getting alot of mileage out of that 3-D printer for sure! I admire your inventiveness. Why didn't I think of this. I will give you a non-solicited plug on your spider capper. Used them yesterday at the range and absolutely love them. Thanks.

    Very cool, I have a few chunks of floral foam, somewhere in my arsenal, for that exact purpose. You should do a short showing what damage can be done at close range, even with a blank.

    Well done!👍 An excellent system. Back in the early 70's, in a Confederate infantry reenactment unit, we'd stuff toilet paper in the chambers and a dab of Crisco. It worked, but it sure was messy!😲

    Had a friend do a demonstration with a 61 Springfield. He placed an old tin can, it was an empty peaches can I believe on the end of the rifle barrel. Placed a cap on the nipple and fired it. The rifle was pointed straight up and the van launched about 3 feet into the air! A musket cap! That’s why we don’t point any black powder gun at any body!

    One other selling point for ya... Great training aid to get animals used to gun fire and fireworks... Hadnt thought to try floral foam. Thanks for the tip. Heres anither idea for you, ive been wrestling with this for a while, tried a few things. Spent caps, de-primed caps. Even tried punching out mudflap rubber from the old school rubber flaps. Ive been trying to come up with essentially a training dummy like a dummy cartridge for a cartridge revolver. The rubber did the best, but i dont have the tools to make it better or test alternative lines of thought ive had, like 3d printing a non-functional set of plastic nipples to save on hammer wear for dry fire practice. Some people here and abroad use these for self defense. Might be worth a fiddle around.

    Very interesting. Could you expand on your blank loading process to load live ammunition in the same way? Being able to load six rounds of lead balls instead of foam off the revolver would be a great time saver. Thanks.

  • @BogeyTheBear

    @BogeyTheBear

    There are already tabletop loading presses out there for loading cylinders off of the gun. It takes considerable leverage to force a slightly oversized lead projectile into a chamber, so those presses are heavier and more complex.

    I'm going to try this, but the first test will be to check the flammability of the foam. In the video it appears that the foam just fluffs out of the muzzle, but I need to be sure it's not burning.

  • @GunsOfTheWest

    I’ve tested that too. I can get it to ignite, but only for a second and only if I’m keeping it still and shielded from wind. Even in those conditions, I can’t keep it burning. Having said that, I wouldn’t shoot the blanks in dry grass or anything like that because there is still black powder involved.

    Using loose Pyrodex is more sensible, if for nothing else that you won't be wasting full-strength pellet charges when a much smaller amount of loose powder will do the same job. More bang for your buck.

    Here is a question because I have gotten into cowgay reenacting. I am using a Ruger Vaquero. But for black powder, I want to grab an 1851 Navy. If reenacting, and you blow through your loads, how do you reload blanks quickly, or do you purchase multiple wheels and have them preloaded?
