personally i saw an ass pull when Blake's aura broke AND she lost her arm yet could still have enough sense of mind to grab a thunder spear and manipulate it to kill Mikasa when others who had broke their aura couldn't do crap for a long while, and Yang who pretty much went comatose when Adam sliced her arm off

I notice this is a pattern in death battle, the whole arm/limb loss that's basically just a fakeout to make you think the amputee is going to lose, then immediately pull out a comeback, hardly really injured. I think the first instance of this was Raiden vs Wolverine. But the thing is, this works for Raiden because it's in character for him. Losing a limb and being like, "Oh darn, guess high fives are gonna suck now" is legitimately something he does in cannon. But with Blake or Sanji, it's so jarring and out of character it's almost funny... Almost. Win or lose, Blake should be fucking mortified at losing her arm. She should be stumbling away from the battlefield relieved to have won but exhausted from all she's been through. At the very least she shouldn't be grinning from ear to ear like she just saw Yang's nudes.

It is slowly becoming a trope how the winner is going to lose a limb somehow. If anything, it is good to use it with characters who have experienced such things (Raiden, Esdeath, Static), but can be really jarring when it happens to others (Jack, Blake, Sanji). At least Jack screamed in pain but was obviously so pissed that Afro got an arm that he basically decided, “fuck it,” and ended him. Sanji... was strange. As how some have pointed out, Sanji has gone through so much hell that getting your leg blown off probably would seem like a gut punch to him (or that if he were to lose a limb, he would probably keep going). As for Blake... yeah, I don’t buy for a second her reaction. You mean to say she started the fight as “who gives a damn...” and immediately goes into, “INCOMING!” with a smile on her face when she lost an arm and seemingly a giant titan is looming overhead? The appropriate reaction either would have been Jack’s aforementioned “pissed that he just lost a limb,” or tears of pain because- well you just lost a limb. It was almost like losing an arm was the best thing to happen to her since Adam got murdered...

Yang vs Tifa fight is an example of why you shouldn't do a VS debate on a character who barely has any feats. This is the same mistake they ended up repeating with Tracer vs Scout and ironically had the issues this one had. They even had stated they wouldn't use Ruby herself until she was fully developed as a character yet at the time of this fight's release they had no qualms with doing that for Yang. Even if this fight was to be remastered with all the updated feats for both characters Tifa would end winning.

@@aidanrutter257 Dragonzord vs Kiryu had an original theme, not a Power Rangers theme, and Power Rangers had lost twice (3 counting the DBX, which was frankly something to help calm the Gundam fans since it was followed by Optimus vs Gundam), meaning they clearly weren't playing favorites as they had characters from a franchise that lost before as a opposed to one that's never been on the show before, so that was not like Yang vs Tifa

It was her Instant Kill first in P4A back in 2012, as it would kill you no matter how much health you or the opponent had, as long as you had 100 meter. It was only called an astral in BBTAG so as to fit more in line with the BlazBlue characters.

I also find it hugely insulting that the RWBY advertisement was displayed over Tifa's corpse. There's also a Rooster Teeth logo in the form of a picture that you can see if you look close enough. Because Tifa obviously loves decorating her workplace with artwork from the company that wants her to die. Plus 7th Heaven looks nothing like that. They bastardized it to fit the RWBY aesthetic.

If it makes you feel any better, I listened to the DB Cast today, and Ben himself admitted that he specifically mishandled Final Fantasy characters in the past. Also, there's the possibility of a Cloud vs Link rematch, which will show how strong the FF7 cast, and by extension, Tifa really is.

@@blyat8832 Maybe not "slap" per say, but Yang would be building up her Semblance over the course of the fight, and would more than likely rush it as an attempt to put Tifa down as quickly as possible. For the sake of this scenario, let's just say Tifa and Yang are on equal ground when it comes to base power. Tifa is matching Yang hand to hand, and Yang is shocked. She uses her semblance, Tifa tanks it then releases her Limit Breaks. At the time of the battle, V1-V3 of RWBY, the cast had a tendency to consist of glass cannons. Once Tifa's limit break hits, Yang is done for.

Volume 5's aura stuff was an attempted retcon of the prior passiveness it was clearly supposed to be. The next volume then never brought up aura going back to being passive, but it basically is because they never followed through on the retcon.

One quick thing, Mikasa was completely out of character and not just slightly, like I have no clue where that internal monologue of mikasa "2 sense of ears" even come from, considering how blake didn't say anything during the fight, that felt like something Mikasa would be, Mikasa doesn't talk often and specially during battle

Yang, nor ANYONE in RWBY, has never defeated planet-level threats, while Tifa's fought Sephiroth and the WEAPONs, gigantic biomechs specifically created BY the planet Gaia to combat threats TO the planet Gaia. So in reality, Blake is the only RWBY member to win a DB

Tbf, planet level threats doesn't mean "they can destroy the planet". The weapons were useless against a meteor that was basically just going to make a big hole. Sephiroth needed meteor to merely "wound" the planet in the first place. It was going to wipe out life but the planet would still be there. Still think Tifa should have smashed Yang into the dirt though. Rwby characters in general never seemed too impressive to me.

I found it weird in Mikasa's analysis. Just a spoilers warning They use and reference feats and info which is clearly pre season 4 AOT (The entire biological thing with Mikasa being engineered to protect Eren, even though Zeke in the manga directly states this to be false). And it's also weird given the fact that they directly spoil AOT's ending which I mean... Then why use Reiner's season 1 feat when you have the much more accurate feat from chapter 148 of him surviving Armin's transformation? Why don't they use the fact that she can kill colossal titans, etc. I feel like this wouldn't be so offputting if they didn't directly mention the manga's ending yet provide next to no manga information. Like at this point why not go all out or update the analysis to include the ending of AOT and volume 8? It pretty much became outdated before it even came out which really doesn't help when DB's entire thing is about determining one and for all who wins yet aren't patient enough to wait for the ending which has been confirmed for months? It's like if they did Mitsuru vs Weiss after volume 7 came out, spoiled the ending of volume 7 but used none of the feats from that volume which gave Weiss clearer feats and a more significant power up.

That’s kind of a bad example using Weiss.

Honestly, the last fight left me confused. Yeah, the animation was jarring with how they were doing the seemingly “uneven frame rate,” but that ending just made me feel if they knew what the hell Blake’s character is. You’d think if you got your arm cut off, you’d be either pissed it was cut or concerned. But Blake (when looking upon a titan) apparently reacts as though she was like Yang and immediately runs off without giving it a second thought. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t know Blake since this DB makes her off as one the most bipolar characters featured on the show. Going from “meh.. whatever...” to “I’ll kill you!!” to “woo! Another fight!!!”

The whole fight just makes me want to hate Blake before I even watch the series. I already figured she was out of character but the fact that she is just so unlikable and shitty, the fact that I am always wary when Death Battle has an RT character on their show and how some feats like the giant bird one just seemed overestimated just made me hate her even though I have never seen this character in action besides her reveal trailer. If this was suppose to get me to want to watch RWBY or like Blake, I just wanted to see the Titan at the end eat her.

Dude I give you praise in general for mentioning One Minute Melee because people forgot about it and whenever I said that death battle pretty much used some of the One Minute Melee videos in there death battles people bashed me for it. Serious praise man because One Minute Melee had the ideas first and death battle took there ideas and re-did them again.

So can someone explain to me how the fuck Yang beat Tifa, like seriously. I can't take of any realistic way Yang could ever beat Tifa, even with the current Yang.

Its because they used stupid fucking calcs and feats for Tifa in the first place. A fine example being the "153 tons of force" throw that she and apparently only she alone (despite there being multiple other people there and the fact its a friendship scene) managed to do. Then you also have the stupid feat of surviving a supernova which in reality was just an illusion that in all likelihood doesnt have the strength of a supernova (because why the fuck would Sephiroth know how much damage it would actually do or feel like?) and from what I've heard it only drops everyone down to low HP meaning anyone could tank that shit.

In all fairness I'm gonna play devils advocate and say its not that hard to have Yang win. It depends on how you view certain things about FF7 and what qualifies as proper evidence. FF7 is terribly inconsistent with the abilities of its characters and the feats that makes these characters strong don't come from story cutscenes or movies (generally) but in gameplay summon animations or maybe guidebooks contextualizing the summons a bit with tons of antifeats saying that those are hella inconsistent or not canon (Cloud is hurt by bullets in AC, Sapphire Weapon is killed by large artillery fire, Cloud is knocked out by a fall, Sector 7 blowing up would kill him, Zach is killed by small scale firearms ect) Tifa gets it worse because she actually doesn't scale to anyone of note, she is nowhere near the actual strong characters like Cloud, Vincent and Sephiroth and because of the JRPG nature of the original games we don't really know how much she actually contributed in those fights for all we know she did pretty much nothing against Sephiroth and it was 99.99% Cloud and Vincent who are the only two party members who actually have feats outside of flashy questionably canon summon animations. So all and all I can actually see how Yang could win since FF7's main feats are potentially non canonical and Tifa has no real feats of her own and doesn't scale to anyone her best showing is fighting Loz who beat her in 2 hits when he got serious.

The Straw Hats usually take immense pain and shrug it off and Sanji has a ver famous scene of taking a lightning blast that almost kills him and just saying a cool line (which they show in the episode). Plus, Sanji has multiple ways of getting the leg back like Tralfagar Law.

A better fighting scenario would be Blake and Mikasa winding down after a battle against the Titans and gearing back up to regroup with their respective teams. They then see Armin who is burnt to a crisp but barely alive, Eren urges Mikasa to hurry and give him a shot of Titan serum! But then Ruby comes to the same rooftop and deposits Yang who is also near death. The brief discussion on who to revive gets heated leading Blake to snatch the serum from Mikasa and Mikasa retaliating. FIGHT! This scenario IMO gives the two a good and in character reason to fight to the death. Especially since they'd most likely help each other fight the Titans if this were "realistic". It also would add drama, tragedy, and weight to the conflict. Two allies fighting to kill each other in the name of the people they love and care about. It'd also be devastating to see Blake return with a missing arm and stumble over to inject Yang. With a defeated Eren trying to grab her but being stopped by Ruby and an arriving Weiss. Buuuuut It'd probably be too dark and cost the team more time to animate. Just thought it was a scenario that gave the characters a good reason to fight.

That reminds me of a fanmade Death Battle with Chrom and when he lost, his loved ones were all mourning his death with the victor's (forgot his name) allies were telling him that using his power all willy nilly results in scenes like this. Lissa even has a moment of shock when she realizes she's an only child. As someone who adores Awakening and has beaten it multiple times, that stabbed me in the heart and twisted the metaphorical blade. In another (this time, Chrom vs Zack), Zack swears to Chrom that he'll find Robin and bring him back to Ylisse before Chrom dies from his injuries. Not only is it heartbreaking because Chrom is leaving his mission to Zack, but it's even more tragic when you realize that Zack probably never got the chance to find Robin in this crossover scenario due to his death, and thus dies unable to fulfill his promise to Chrom. If Death Battle animations weren't limited to 3 minutes at best, we could get some really good and heartbreaking scenes like these. Really emphasize how these deaths can affect the loser's loved ones.

This is honestly one of the reasons I HATE the concept of death battle More often than not the written character's power is determined by the setting and the story the Author wants to tell,they could make their characters stronger but they don't do that and just tell a story and maybe some power ups to prove their point to the antagonist who more often than not are either a twisted or opposite mindset. Shows like Death Battle exist exclusively to answer who would win in a fight. That's the entire point of debates like these. If you're here for a story, Death Battle is not the show for you.

@@esteban8471 My point wasn't to criticize the IDEA of Death Battle. What I hate is when people put all the wage on power,This episode just managed to remind me why I hate these type of debates. They put Peak HUMAN who's in a world that operates mostly on Real logic,is vastly more liked by people and put her up against a Magic enhanced Super soldier who people hate with a passion because the characters of the Franchise were just made into idiots or maniacs to make them look good. I don't have a problem with it as a fun little tidbit but when People just put so much stock into it and forget the "Character" it just becomes mind boggling. I for one didn't have a problem with Superman Vs Goku 1 and 2 because it was just two mindlessly OP characters just slamming into each other. even though it was biased and the the whole Lowballing of Dragon Ball was bothersome I didn't have a problem with it.

the first 3 minutes probably has to be the most relatable thing I have heard all day. And yea, RWBY and Death Battle seem to not mix well despite being owned by the same shareholder.

I think there was a lot of favoritism with Yang vs Tifa though I do hear people making theories that Weiss only lost as sort of a cover up so they can metaphorically say “look, we made a RWBY character lose, we are not bias” however, I do want to believe that they genuinely want to make a good episode but I don’t know what exactly happens behind the scenes so I can’t exactly judge in that aspect but I can judge the episodes on how they were presented as in my opinion Yang vs Tifa: did not like Weiss vs Mitsuru: it was ok Blake vs Misaka: also did not like I know Ruby vs Maka is inevitable and I can just only hope that it is decent.

It worked in that regard for me too, though I never got around to it. After that fight dropped I put RWBY on my "to watch" list, but then some shit regarding Rooster Teeth came to my attention and I decided I wasn't gonna give them any of my money. So I still haven't watched RWBY and not gonna lie, but I really don't want to anymore after all the shit I've heard about it. Also now being several years removed from the episode and having completely lost any interest in RWBY that the fight gave me, Yang vs. Tifa is an absolute piece of garbage episode as far as I'm concerned now because I can't see it as anything but an advertisement now.

On the note of yang vs tifa one of the biggest gripes I had was that they said yang was able to fall from the sky after a minute of being off-screen and that she was slammed into a concrete pillar which would require an absolute ton of force. This is specifically volume 2 yang as if those same situations happened in the more recent volumes, yang would just be dead or severely injured. Auras now vs. back then are a lot more grounded in realism as they aren't going for over-the-top situations to try to fit it into the comedy mold still.

Besides the new one, I’m mixed on the other fights... I grew to hate Yang vs Tifa as time progressed due to the results and graphical errors. Weiss vs Mitsuru Lololololol. There were stats they missed for Mitsuru but I really liked this fight.

@@Orwin_Crossheart Nyx's avatar can fight the protagonist and the rest of the party who are at least as strong as the "Joker" from persona 5, who can easily one-shot Mammon who was vastly superior to all past Palace Rulers, of which even the weakest are capable of creating and sustaining an entire parallel universe. Not to mention, Nyx is a being that basically created the concept of death, and in persona 3, was going to bring "the fall" that basically ends the world

I'm so glad you pointed out the 4x the hearing thing that was all I could think about for the remainder of the fight.

*Yang vs Tifa* This was the episode that introduced me to RWBY proper, so it's kind of special to me. At the time, I had no idea about either franchise so I didn't have an opinion on it. The person I was rooting for was Tifa, mostly because I liked her power set and her VA was Tia Ballard. After some years of being a RWBY fan and becoming familiar with FF, this episode is one of the weakest in DB history. I agree with you, even with me not knowing any of the characters, I felt that Tifa was getting the short end of the stick in the episode. Not just because of the boob jokes. The fight was great but I agree that it was fugly to look at (imagine my relief when I saw the difference in quality when I watched RWBY) and the whole thing with Aura. That's a can of worms I don't want to open and I'm not an FF fan, but I believe Yang's could have been penetrated by Tifa's Limit Breaks. But again, I'm not a FF fan so I can't comment more on what I already know from other discussions. Overall it's the lowest of the RWBY Death Battles but it is the one that introduced me to RWBY, so I'm thankful. *Weiss vs Mitsuru* I remember when this episode came out, I was excited but also wary because at this point, I was a RWBY fan. A fan that knew how crazy people in the fandom can get. I was heavily on Twitter around this time, so I saw all the tweets and discussions about how if Weiss won, then DB was biased. Barring that, I knew Weiss was not going to win. My brothers are Persona fans so I knew what Weiss was getting into and how the franchise works. I was also cynical at the time because Weiss, in the show proper had not won a single 1v1 since her trailer and before Vol 7. The episode itself was good to a point, the analysis portion was great when we got to Mitsuru. The fight itself is better than most people give it credit for, the choreography was great. I just have an issue with the render, it just looks like they playblasted it and no comp was done besides the FX. Barring that it was a good episode, despite the death being lame and Weiss' outro getting special treatment. Also this is a problem I have with Death Battle proper but I miss the 'FIGHT' announcement. It was such an iconic part of the show and without it, most fights don't have setup which I hate. Why were the characters there? Why are they fighting? I don't know. Also Corey Pettit did an amazing job as Mitsuru. I heard she was taking acting classes at the time and it shows. She had one of the best pre-kill one liners and it was glorious. *Blake vs Mikasa* Now that this is the third RWBY MU, I think people were a little balanced when it came to 'bias'. Now that the franchise has 1 win and 1 loss. Not to say I didn't see any accusations but from what I remember of Weiss vs Mitsuru, it wasn't that much or as bad. I never really got this MU until it was explained to me which I found to be fair enough. I have not read or watched AoT in a long time so I had no idea how Mikasa grew since then. After seeing some tweets and talking with my friend, the only thing I knew that Mikasa had over Blake was Thunder Spears and how she had the strength of a Titan. Other than that no clue. I had no strong attachments to either characters so I was more focused on how fight would turn out. First thing I want to get out of the way is the frame rate. I can forgive them as whenever there animation is on 2's it isn't normally for stylistic reasons. They rendered this fight in Unreal which is a game engine, which brings some technical limitations when trying to do other stuff like the FX. Since I'm working in Unreal for a job I'm doing, it can be a pain to work on and I'm a beginner. Your not wrong to be critical and your right it is jarring to look at. This is just my explanation as to why they do it. The fight itself was amazing. There was one thing I wanted like so many others and that was a good acrobatic fight and it delivered. The music synced so well with the action and the use of both of their abilities was fun to watch. Despite the technical issues like the lip-sync and what you said about the background, something I did not notice. Blake was so out of character throughout, I get that they recycled Arryn's voice but this was just not the way to do it. Like you said, she was portrayed in an antagonistic light and out of all the RWBY MU's, this was the weakest in character portrayal. Also the peppy 'Incoming' was just jarring and doesn't do Blake any favors. *Conclusion* Sorry for the long essay, guess I had more to say than I thought. Now that we have 3/4 of the main RWBY girls, it's only a matter of time before Ruby vs Maka. Guess I should watch Soul Eater in anticipation.

I completely agree with the doing away of the "FIGHT!" clip. It always hyped me up, and there are even many fights where I can point to a moment where they could have included one. Being a Persona fan who knows virtually nothing about RWBY, I was confused why they had a lady who was immune to ice fight against a girl who mostly had ice powers; it felt like a Natsu vs. Ace scenario.

They will most likely do the maka vs ruby and have ruby lose insainly easily and stupidly like what happened in the mitsiru vs weiss fight. Weiss insta wins that fight btw cuz weiss has the ability to use more then just ice dust which would be neutral or not effective damage to mitsiru becuase she has the ice affinity thing. Mitsur has a fire weakness being and ice affinity or what ever its called. So all wiess needed to do was use fire dust instead of ice. Simple. Also weiss summons where under used. The queen lancer could summon baby lancers to help out cuz thats what the grim queen lancer can do and im oretty sure the schnee summons also have the same ability as the grim counter parts. But they didnt add that. Weiss underusung her semblance was actually berg accurate so ill let that stuff slide. Mitsuru actually has nothing on weiss other then being able to summon her persona when ever she wants.

Mitsuru is still way too powerful for her to stand a chance against And she traded blows with late game Phantom Thieves in the Persona crossover spinoffs, this automatically puts her above anything Weiss ever did Come back after you actually RESEARCH Persona and then you can argue

It feels weird trying to put rwby characters in vs discussion for me cause the main four are very... inconsistent. It feels like in order for them to win, you have to stick to volumes 1-3 cause that's where most of their GOOD feats are, but if you bring up 4-8 they drop down a grade. Perfect example: Yang I remember someone bringing up Yang tanking a rocket launcher explosion in the yellow trailer, arguing that that should be her baseline durability. Then how do you explain her getting knocked out by Neo, twice? A girl who has never been shown to hit with that much force. Yang should be able to tank any of Neo's hits for a good while (at least until she tires herself out) given that baseline, but she gets jobbed twice, not even with sneak attacks. Now, this is obviously because the writers have been changing things over time to add to the drama, hard to make people worry about the girl who can tank a rocket without a scratch or survive being punched through several concrete pillars when she has to fight weaker opponents. The problem is that instead of raising the stakes by just making opponents who do big damage or have trained to use much more deadly techniques, they just nerfed the protags, resulting in terrible tactics and paper thin durability from all of the girls at different points after volume 3. Now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, volume 7 showed them getting better, but then Yang still got knocked out by Neo in one hit (a hit which she knew about by the way). If they want me to believe these girls are as still as strong as they used to be, the writers need to show me that. If they're gonna make them look like jobbers, I'm gonna see them as jobbers.

Imagine dying and then having an advertisement of your opponent’s series hung over your dead body

Finally. The day has come. I....liked the fight and it made me miss OG RWBY despite the flaws and the often times egregious frame rate that persisted throughout the fight as well as Mikasa’s...offputting model. If only the current volumes of the show could’ve lived up to its potential. But that’s just my case. Hey, Nemesis.

I honestly felt like the final blow Blake made kinda came out of the blue. Really the only thing I'd say is that I think it would have been better if Blake had had a sort of longer comeback instead of a really quick turnaround.

The problem though is that FighterZ (and by extension, Arc System Works) have mastered the art of making 3D models act like 2D sprites. Something to which can be very jarring to see if not done properly. Another example I can think of would be if Into The Spiderverse decided to cut a few more frame of animation to make it look even more choppy. A fine balance was found there, but it does seem like if anyone else tries it, we would get... kind of what we got in this fight and to a lesser extent the All might vs Guy fight (which I won’t give as much flack to if those spotty moments were fewer than what we saw here).

@@mas8705 Point taken. Those examples had been in my mind as he explained his dislike of the frame rate. I more so felt the tone with which he presented that statement (as if it should never be done and would be ridiculous to even attempt, even going so far as providing the Link vs. Cloud example to prove that point) felt slightly hypocritical after having just brought up FighterZ a moment prior without any clarification. I'll admit I don't have as much of an issue with how the animation looked, so I may have had a tinge of saltiness when posting.

​@@coopertaunt Fair enough. No worries. For myself, this was probably the first death battle in a long time (if not ever) that I found myself feeling... "meh" about. Yeah the animation was jarring, but honestly, if the fight as a whole was better executed (or at least if they stuck the ending better than "Blake being Happy Go Lucky that her arm got cut off before she runs off yelling, 'Incoming!' with a smile." when she was basically in a "I don't care" mood at the start of it), I probably wouldn't be as critical about this fight. But for the 3D fights as a whole... that definitely is a mix bag. You aren't wrong about the Link vs Cloud fight (and considering how that was the first ever 3D Death Battle, it's fair to say that was probably going to be as dated in the fighting as what Samus vs Boba was). Nothing wrong with having an opposing opinion. Hell knows seeing one helps to generate a conversation about something if there is an issue that needs addressing. As for the whole thing for DBFZ, I'll just say I'm a sucker for Arc System Works and how they are the only people who know how to make 3D models move and act like 2D sprites. They got that nonsense down to an art (and one that can't be easily replicated).

I love that somebody is acknowledging this ruby voice change thing! Really hoping they keep what they’ve already started with a V7 and V8. I definitely agree about V4. And I could see a lot of people dropping this show after V9. Kind a hoping at minimum we get around 12 volumes. And, other than possibly animating the novels, that this series can still end things on a good note despite the roller coaster ride

Can't say I agree with everythig said here, but it might also has to do that I've never been a big RWBY guy to begin with and Its nice to see a diferent perspective, very fun video eitherway! Good stuff.

You know, having watched this review, I didn't realize how inconsistent they have the RWBY content in Death Battle until now. And like you said, this shouldn't be a problem since it's their own property. It would be like saying that you've made a robot that functions well, but when acted to recreate it, you fail to notice the rat piloting the robot when that wasn't the case the first time.

In the next RWBY battle it will be Ruby herself facing someone who will probably tear her to pieces like Spiderman or Lloyd Garmadon from ninjago, that the latter has what it takes to end his entire universe totally alone even with salem and ozpin at the same time.

@@marrvynswillames4975 Well, if they ever put Ruby back in a DBX, at least they put her in a fight with someone she can defeat, not with titans like Ragna or the ones I mentioned, where even Spiderman defeated her in a One minute melee and Lloyd Garmadon has not yet appeared in one of those versus, I will only tell you that even without his golden powers he rips her apart without so much trouble. But since there they gave favoritism to the protagonist of their most popular franchise, I assure you that even if they put Lloyd as an opponent they will do everything possible to make him lose.

I think if dB insists on having characters lose limbs then have them act in a way that would reflect that now lost limb. I think Mikasa didn’t even need to throw that second thunder spear after Blake lost her arm and was hit by the first.

The whole White Fang thing should really have been handled much more like the X-Men, specifically Blake should have been Professor X and Adam should have been Magneto. First Class is a pretty good movie example of what I wish their relationship was like - they respect and care for each other but they are doomed to forever be adversaries when one of them (Adam and Magneto) chooses his anger over their relationship. Hell, it could even build on that initial base rather than just take it as is with how the affection between Blake and Adam would have been explicitly romantic. Just imagine the drama and tension between her and Weiss if Adam had killed one of the Schnees in front of Blake before the events of the Black trailer. As is frequently the case with a lot of RWBY's storytelling - the pieces of a good story were already there, the writers just failed to see them.

You seemed to miss that at the end there's the shadow of a titan in front of Mikasa. That's why Blake's ending is the way it is.

The Yang vs Tifa Death Battle got me into RWBY, so it has a special place in my heart.

I have already erased Cinder running on the rooftop animation back in Volume 2 and you just had to put it there 😂

Yang vs Tifa the issue is that it is animated in mmd from what I can tell

Love the video but I do wanna say about the ending for the manga is that I watched the commentary from death battle and apparently this video was planned 6 months ago before the ending actually came out but the fact that they knew this and didn’t wait until the manga ended really bothered me

There are a lot of problems with this episode, but I really like the matchup and the choreography (basically the animation minus the framerate), so it’s good enough for me to rewatch.

Kinda interesting to hear that we share the same view on RWBY

Yang vs Tifa introduced me to RWBY, so I've always had a soft spot for it, Weiss vs Mitsuru felt like it had a super obvious ending from the analysis and Weiss being blue kinda bothered me, though it got a good laugh from me and used two characters I really enjoyed in an alright fight, and Blake vs Mikasa is my favorite episode of the season with a track I have to play every time I see it in my recommended feed. Frame rate only really bothered me at the start of the animation when it fluctuated on the same shot of Mikasa talking, but I can see how not liking how a fight is animated can drag it down, I was super excited leading up to Geese vs Heihachi since it was my favorite Fatal Fury character vs my favorite Tekken character, but the 2D being used over 3D when they both have models from the same game kept bugging me despite the really entertaining choreography, so I totally understand.

I am really pissed because of how, at least, I feel, Mikasa was nerfed hard. Specifically, the speed and durability parts. Here are the objections (SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA AND SEASON 4): 1. She managed to intercept and catch up to BOTH Jaw titans (Porco's Jaw Titan specifically has caught and dodged multiple thunder spears and tanked Zeke chucking pebbles), who are capable of jumping, minimum, twice their own height, and the Female Titan, who is, by my calcs, is at least 3 times the top speed of a galloping horse, was able to dodge cannons and could catch survey corps members with the relative speed of that of a pure titan 2. She was capable of dodging Zeke's rock throwing, which, in the manga based off of my calcs, were roughly 2 times as fast as the cannonballs in the series 3. She outsmarted and ambushed the War Hammer Titan TWICE in their full battle 4. She scales to Levi, who is, again, faster than Zeke's rocks 5. She HAS survived lightning, specifically, when Annie transformed in Wall Sina (Yes, that's how it's spelled) in the finale of season 1 6. She was closest to the epicenter of the Colossal Titan's nuke, which absolutely LEVELED Shinganshina District in season 3 and OBLITERATED Marley's harbor in a matter of SECONDS (Armin was on the ground the rest in Shinganshina were either being Shielded by Eren and/or were on/behind the wall) (I ran the numbers and, based off the crater that was made by Armin in s4 ep7, and that’s likely comparable to 1/6 the power of the Tzar Bomba, the most powerful Nuke ever detonated) 7. Scaling to Levi, he survived a POINT BLANK SHOT from a thunder spear and shrapnel entering and piercing his GODDAMN SKULL!!!!! (Granted, he was knocked unconscious briefly but I would argue that still counts as surviving) 8. She has survived being PUNCHED OUTRIGHT BY EREN YEAGER IN HIS TITAN FORM, which can dent the Armored Titan's armor without hardening 9. She has dodged Pieck's cannons, which act much like that of a minigun Forgive me if any information is off but this is going off what I found. Again, I feel like she was nerfed pretty hard. Also, the opening dialogue, for Mikasa at least, feels out of character. That feels like something Sasha or Gabi would say. Also, Her monologues are usually in her head. She rarely to never talks out loud during battle. She's either silent and focused, or yelling. Also, no, she is not an idiot. In AOT Dogs and Cats Exist ( We outright see a dog barking as early as episode 1) so... yeah no!!!

The explanation you gave for your relationship with RWBY is literally what I have. I haven't been with the show for a long time, I only discovered it when volume 5 was starting out. But it just sucked me in immediately. I loved everything about it! The worldbuilding, the characters, the weapons, aura, semblances, everything! And seeing how the show if turning out today just pains me so much, because I KNOW it can be better. If Rooster Teeth just took more time and asked for help, they could still salvage everything, and bring the show back from the deep hole it fell into during these last few years.

31:50 I personally love all of these episodes and find I enjoy stuff when I don't try and find fault with it. You want these things to improve so you're trying to find faults to be improved. I honestly just stumbled onto your channel and I must say I'm enjoying seeing another point of view, even if I disagree with some if not most of it....... okay yes the bar in the yang vs tifia being hollow like that should have been fixed hot damn it looks bad.

I ran the numbers using Death Battle's calcs, Nemesis's calcs, and the depicted shots of the Nevermore, Godzilla, Yang, Weiss, and others, by my calcs, the Nevermore, in actuality, would be roughly as big as Monsterverse Rodan in length, with a rough estimate of a max wingspan (Based off of that shot) 2/3 that of Rodan's. For reference, Bertholt's Colossal Titan is roughly 60 meters tall. I may have gotten numbers wrong but feel free to correct me, as I haven't seen RWBY (I'm frankly not interested in watching it) and am only going off of what Nemesis gave me and what Death Battle gave me.

5-5-21 I really like your analysis and critique about the RWBY DEATH BATTLES. It clearly shows that, even though you like RWBY, you didn't let bias into this review. I haven't watched DEATH BATTLE! in a while because I just got bored of it. I lost interest in it after watching Kuro the Artist's/The Ink Tank's "Ben 10 vs Green Lantern". I haven't watched any of the battles after "Sabrewulf VS Jon Talbain" except through your analysis. Meanwhile, I really think this: If there is a matchup featuring either an Anime Character or a DC Superhero/Supervillain, the best bet is to vote for those as who wins (except Batman. They seem to hate Batman). I have detected a HUGE bias for Anime or DC. How many matchups featuring an Anime Character or a DC Superhero/Supervillain vs a character neither from Anime nor from DC resulted in a Win for the Anime/DC character. Ben 10 lost against Green Lantern (DC), even though Ben should have probably won with Alien X. Wonder Woman (DC) totally SQUASHED She-Ra and defeated Thor. Chrona (Anime) defeated Venom (Marvel). Static Shock (DC) defeated Miles Morales (Marvel). The Mask might not be DC, but he isn't Marvel and had crossed over with DC's Batman and the Mask itself got onto Joker's Face. Captain Marvel has lost to both Android 18 (Anime) and to Shazam (DC). Raven (DC) defeated Twilight Sparkles. Lucy (DC) defeated Carnage (Marvel). etc. Of course, it could be related to DC's More Powerful Heroes, but it didn't work. Meanwhile, they should NOT have chosen Optimus Prime to fight the Gundam. Most Optimus Primes (except for Bayverse Optimus Prime) always fight for justice and freedom. They totally removed his morals. They saw him for his power, not his spark. They should have paired the Gundam against another character. There should be another Anime featuring a character in a giant Mech to put against the Gundam. Though, DEATH BATTLE relies on misunderstandings more than more romantic movies. Just my opinion.

Anyone find it interesting that every single sword fight death battle the winner always ends up with an x shaped scar on their chest or a missing arm? I legit said while watching the Mikasa vs Blake I bet one of them is gonna lose an arm

36:51 I'll be honest, I agree with a lot of the reviews in this episode, but pointing out the one frame where the models weren't introduced and is pretty hard to notice even despite the framerate is a little nitpicky.

I've never seen RWBY, several years ago it was on my "to watch" list but after some reports I read I decided I wasn't gonna give RT any of my money. But regardless of that the RWBY Death Battles were definitely lower tier in my eyes, I mostly share your opinions here. Weiss vs. Mitsuru is the only one I thought was good. Yang vs. Tifa felt so much like an advertisement at Tifa's expense that it made me wanna throw up. It's never really bothered me when a character I like loses because usually the Death Battle team makes a solid case for the winner but here, there were so many holes and leaps in logic regarding Tifa that I couldn't see this as anything other than a RT advertisement. The only thing this episode did that I appreciate was introduce me to "I Burn". I know nothing about Yang but dammit I love her theme. And the biggest issue with Blake vs. Mikasa for me was just how one-sided the breakdown made the match. I haven't seen Attack on Titan either, though it is on my "to watch" list, so I knew nothing about either character going in, and usually when that happens the guys are pretty good at giving decent stats to both characters to make it something of a surprise who the winner is going to be, before they give the big piece of info during the recap that makes it really definitive. They just didn't do that here, after the breakdown it was blatantly obvious that Blake was gonna take the win. And as a result of that I didn't care enough to really pay attention to the fight animation. I thought the choreography was pretty sick but that's really all I can say. I understand that there's a balance to strike between these matches being actually good fights vs. the opponents being thematically appropriate, but this one's predictability just made it boring. Overall, these fights are quite low on my personal ranking and while I do believe that the Death Battle team aren't "biased" per se when they make these episodes, the Yang vs. Tifa episode really left a sour taste in my mouth. I still love the show, I've been watching for years and I plan to continue watching for the foreseeable future, but I know the only one I'll be revisiting will be Weiss vs. Mitsuru but even then I doubt that will be very often.

The ending of the fight just felt like "oh yeah you guys know blakes supposed to win right."

I don't think it was mentioned in this video, but didn't they basically say something along the lines of Tifa's constant usage of attacks not dealing any type of damage because of how the Bravery system works in Dissidia...a spin-off fighting game all the while they decided to outright ignore what she can do in the main game or even other thingts in Dissidia itself? (Could be wrong since it's been a while since I have watched that episode.)

What do you think about Yang vs Violet from League of Legends?

I wonder how you going to review Po vs Iron Fist. It going be reviewing with other Marvel vs non DC fight because if it is that going to alot to review.

I agree with you every step of the way, but something thing I want to point out here 22:06 to be fair they were probably thinking about copyright so they should have kept it brief, also sets your taking about how they betray the characters in the fight I like to point out, is that Mikasa doesn't fight like that unless Eren is in danger she doesn't scream and talk to her self, silent and deadly. Ps thank you for not spoiling AOT that's why I didn't watch Mikasa analysis

I'm gonna be honest: Personally, I think Blake vs Mikasa was the best episode of this season. I loved research on this episode. I liked the analysis segments where Boomstick basically kills Wiz twice.... XD However, what the episode nailed perfectly for me were the track and the fight. It was PERFECTLY BEAUTIFUL!! Thunder Shroud was the best track ever made. I loved the vocals, the lyrics, and the music in general. The fight was the best for me since it was just constant BAM! BOOM! SLICE! SMACK! SWING! No pauses or interruptions. It was just perfect consistency for me. Also, what you may not know is that the "Unfinished Animation" was actually a homage to Spiderman Into The Spider-Verse. That's what it was. The fight was just awesomeness all around and every moment was my favorite part. That's how much I love this episode.

Who do you think Ruby will be fighting against in DB? I mean it's the only eventual course of action. IMO they may place her against Maka Albrarn (with Soul) from Soul Eater, if nothing else because of the scythe wielding.... And because I'm sure they'll give the win to Maka, just because RWBY already has 2 wins and 1 lose, they'll want to balance things out, and Soul Eater characters are kinda broken in the later arcs.

they gave Blake, Monty's blake personality and Roosterteeth's outfit to the deathbattle. gave Blake some handicaps, and give all her flaws to Mikasa. they gave Mikasa way too much emotions for something she doesnt care about. by RoosterTeeth's Blake? she's a hippie. that barely fights and needs someone else to help her fight. Monty's Blake, she's a on a league on herself. Clearly Deathbattle used Roosterteeths Blake. Mikasa is Genetical modified human made for killing. and what took Levi years of training to master speed and power. Mikasa was gaining that level of experience faster than what it took him years to do. As far as we see it .Blake never had any formal military training. and has trouble fighting other human characters . Mikasa is shown to be skilled at fighting humans and monsters even if things were stacked against her. and had military training. I loved RWBY. I was a fan the moment RWBY trailer came out. I went to the website everyday for an update. and same goes for Attack on titan. I love both series, but a true DeathBattle between RT's Blake and Mikasa? Mikasa wins by a landslide.

I agree about the victor of the fight. Granted I haven’t seen RWBY (Frankly, Yang vs Tifa made me decide not to watch it) whilst I’ve studied Attack on Titan frame by frame, pixel by pixel, panel by panel. The thing that gave me the thought that the episode is wrong was The Colossal Titan Nuke from season 3 and 4. Specifically Armin’s and Bertholt’s nukes

I personally think Mikasa is a MUCH better written character than Blake, regardless of what sweaty weebs on the internet think, but I don't see how Mikasa even has a chance in hell at winning. Blake is exponentially faster, inherently more durable, and also has Aura, which I don't believe Mikasa has any means of actually getting through, despite whatever DB shows in their fights.

I agree with you and Biffweed. And seriously the Frame rate in Blake vs Mikasa looks like it's trying to emulate Spiderman into the spider verse But fails massively.

I love when fights utilize all the tools in an effective way. for ruby i hope they utilize momentum in the animation in a satisfying way, If ruby is just swinging the scythe around and stopping to make gunshots without combining the swings with the gun imma be a bit upset

When ever i see rwby in death battle that's a episode I skip, it always feels corporate when they do so, not to mention they usual win, because they either ignore the strengths of their opponent or put them in a fight where it's. Stomp and when rwby does lose they play down the death

@@marlonfarias. And thanks to the "fragile ego paradox" (i.e saving face) DB will never openly admit they got a result wrong... Which means millions of casual viewers will be cognitively programmed into thinking DB is always right (because of how popular they are) and anyone who disagrees with the DB status quo is either labelled salty or irrelevant which only continues the cycle of misinformation spreading in the Vs community. At best the DB team will either say "the research was a little off but it doesn't change the outcome" or do what they did in Deadpool Vs The Mask and show "alternative" outcomes in the background lol!

Literally all they had to do for Weiss' death was have the ice shatter and leave no trace of her behind. Maybe have the crystal shatter into little specks of blue dust that dissipate.

Here is my take: Yang vs Tifa: 3/10. Weiss vs Mitsuru: 8/10. Blake vs Mikasa: 6/10.

Where is Ruby Rose vs (insert name here)? When is that battle going to happen?

RWBY was the first time I was able to share with my family that I liked anime, so it holds a special spot in my heart. But I 100% understand not liking the new volumes, or RWBY at all, and I hope volume 9 can be a small reboot. I somewhat dislike my community, and I wish we were less toxic in general.
