Blacksmithing Forging Fish wall hang hook scrap metal wall art 1k sub drawing winner!

Hello everyone and thank you for joining me again this week. This was a fun little forging project I hope you enjoy it. The materials for this project was 14 gauge scrap plate steel. Half inch rebar and approximately 26 in of quarter inch round stock. I truly hope that you are all enjoying these midweek videos of these scrap projects these are a lot of fun and I hope that they inspire you to get out into your own shop and or inspire you to look us up at epironworks.. also for this video stay tuned as for near the end I will have a special guest helping me do the drawing for the hand Forged rail spike knife with the skull end!

This short video demonstrates forging and hammering and features the fabrication of a small wall hanging fish bones inspired hook. Although definitely not my own original idea I hope that my rendition does them justice.

    Quick question for you... when you do your skulls and cut out for things like them like your fish head do you free hand draw and then cut it out or do you have a stencil you copy from? I tried free handing a skull after the wife seen it she took away my forge and replaced it with a 40 watt light bulb and a paper flame lol

    Hahahaha that's the most awesome comment ever! I (free) hand draw everything first. So far I've been lucky in guessing material expansion. With skulls I draw from top down. The deer skull for example I draw the top of t I e skull to scale. Then draw one side, I then fill in the void between the top and side. I then make a copy of the side and rinse and repeat. Knowing eye sockets and brows concave and convex I try to adjust my drawing to compensate or allow. Often the final template is quite goofy looking but reduces the fighting of the material like a typical repose. Hope that helps. I keep copies of my finished templates.
