I preferred how it looked in the olden days.....much classier and the buildings and streets much more elegant. X Souless now, such a shame and I love Blackpool too x

Unfortunately, that can be said about anywhere in the UK now.
Is it me or do you also prefer how it looked back in the olden days?

looked better in the olden days with all the buildings and roads having much more character. Life probably harder then but people looked more connected and happier unlike how we are now glued to a mobile phone.

Was just us.
The difference between then and now. Then: The town is full of people and its streets are made for people. Now: The town is dead and the streets are made for cars.

Unfortunately that is the result of "progress".
Is it just the old romantic in me.....I really think the streets and various areas of distinction looked so much more quaint and elegant, and so much busier back in the day.....areas looked nicely maintained and cared for....nowadays they look more rundown and poorly kept... ,...just another example I suppose,...of the melaise arround all the holiday hotpoints in the country,....and of the decay in standards of a modern-day society....
This brought back some memories. I was one of The Bel Canto singers, we did a summer season on The North Pier in 1970, Barron Knights top of the bill, also Don McClean later of Crackerjack fame and Peter Gordeno and his dancers. I often went to Robert's Oyster Bar, 3 oysters 2/6d I wonder how much they are now?
Lovely, brought a tear to my eye 😍 thankyou
I lived in Blackpool in the 70s..and great to see some old pictures
Really enjoyed this post, thank you.
amazing footage/edit!
Love this thanks!
The renewed seafront , Stanley Park (voted best in England ) , the brilliant zoo, the pleasure beach , the Sandcastle , the sea life centre , good golf courses within two miles of our unique Tower attraction , new trams , major hotel groups building new hotels all over the town. Blackpool has a great future. Could some of the moaners tell us what their towns have to offer !,
Love Blackpool , I'm retired ,during the summer I visit every fortnight from Manchester, go on the coach, do loads of walking on the sea front mainly to saint Anne's and back or Fleetwood and back.
Been looking for this all week Thanks 👏👏👏👏
I grew up in Blackpool and returned last year 2018 my mum dad and grandad buried in Carlton cemetery as are my brother and sister in law . But so many happy memories growing up in Blackpool
I remember all these now photo's back in 70s to 85... Seemed a lot more busy then...

But many big factories in the past all closed for Holidays at the same time
Twenty seconds in shows what I remember as the Central Sheds, back in the 50s. I did walk down past an engine on the right of the picture and as I was next to it the fireman let off a very loud burst of steam and smiled at me. 8-) I also visited North Shed and took a photo of an engine. It's interesting to see then and now. We had trams going to Layton Square, before my time, and later I did ride on the double deckers to the Royal Oak, around 1950. Now we are having a short section of tram track between the North Pier and North Station...for coverage of this work check out Lyca31. Obvious typo ...Dixon Road ....Dickson Road.
Very nice looking back at the good old days 🙂
Brings back my past life 👏
Supper ganda ng lugar nyo sananall maka punta jan @arl official
As a kid we sometimes stayed in a hotel across from the baths with some distant relatives, can't remember their names except the children who I think were Duncan and Melanie..
over the last 50 years or so, successive councils and planners have totally ruined Blackpool, it’s an absolute shit hole now.
have you noticed how many people are about in the old pics and how dead it is new pics
Loved Blackpool went every year for years in the 50s to80s brilliant
prefer then...

Bravo!
And it's changed so much since the 'now' photos too. Just one error though, the car park you show as Central station is incorrect, that's part of the old Gas works and would have been adjacent to the old tracks, Coral Island is in fact the old station :) I have some images collecting here: blackpoolhistory.tumblr.com/

Literally wouldnt want to find yourself on central drive. Whatever the time of day. never
Many Thanks
Good point. No Costcutter or tattooist on Central Drive.
Blackpool looked a lot better in the old photos than it does now, but this is regrettably true with almost all places. One sees more parked cars than people these days even in the small village where I live. However it was lovely hearing the old popular songs played by the Wurlitzer. It sounds so authentic.
Well the music still fits Blackpool Gordon Exmouth
Had to keep on the pause on each picture. There is no time to look in detail. Running far too quick.
A shadow of its former past
One mistake. Pleasure Beach from South Pier, not Central Pier as stated.
The last photo is not "now" as St John's Sq has been completely transformed since the old Google photo in the video.
memories
It all looks so much worse . I have so many happy childhood memories of Blackpool
It would have been much better to take modern photos, from the original viewpoints, rather than just grabbing near ones from Google StreetView (who, incidentally, are not credited).

Jesus, people don't know how to make great building anymore. They either replace them with ugly ones or changed parts of a beautiful building with ugly updates. They changed a lot and not for the better. Same thing happen to Birmingham in the 1960's. The 60's and 70's have a lot to answer for with their crappy architects. Sadly its carried on with this "modern" look even now. It's all glass now. Architects/planners don't want to put money into it, come up with integrated designs and use long lasting materiel into building anymore. They just want to keep it simple and cost down. I hate it but that's how it is now. The Victorians knew how to create great architecture and spaces. Wish we could go back to this way of thinking.
Even the updated pictures are out of date.
Compare the people from then to the inhabitants of today. It's a damn shame.
Blackpool is by far one of the worst shit holes I have ever been too. Never again. It's such a shame what's happened to It.
1:43 is wrong. Palaine is on the next corner to the right. fyi
Most places change but not for the better. I live in Blackpool and it is a pale version of its former self.
Much better in the past. It's been totally destroyed now.
The Blackpool Clown Council even to this day, have never lost the ability of making things worse !
1909 then 2013 now
It was much better than.

I love walking the beach. Spliff and coffee, right out by the water's edge. I lived there for a few months after my cancer cleared up earlier this year. Was exactly the place I needed to be. My children loved it. Roller coasters, hot donuts, amusements, kfc, dungeon. Stefanis pizza, great cinema with friendly staff and just being by the sea. Also spent time in lytham st Ann's, down t'road. Also very nice. Im irish and I love that old english feeling about these places. Oh and the red pepper chinese on central drive. Very friendly and delicious.
The transitions are too quick on this video. Not enough time to take it all in

People spend the time and money abroad but I go to Blackpool yearly and it is cleaning up very well, after all its people's support that is needed and not neglect.
Just think on! Nice clean environment or chimney smoke and soot covered buildings and fresh horse crap to delight your gardens. Limited medicine's let alone no NHS. . I know which one i prefer and can only thank the past for creating our tomorrows.
Needs the pied piper to to take a visit, take it bk to its glory days n run the rats out
