For me its just weird she sings the whole 1st part of the song alone, it could have been more like the last part where it switches between them, the song needed team work, not a solo part for her

Sour Candy was the first song BP released after i stabbed them for like almost a whole year and it was all i listened to for a few months like i was OBSESSED. Lady Gaga stans mostly agree that this is the best song and especially the best single on her Chromatica album.

I swear the haters always say that they are just idols turned models, that it's all just marketing and high budget production. But really, it's always been about their music ever since they debuted. Sour Candy was released in May 2020, and the reason this did not get promoted that much was this was during the height of the George Floyd/BLM protests. Blinks and Little Monsters (Lady Gaga's fandom) agreed to not promote this song and flood Twitter with hashtags as a sign of respect and solidarity with the cause. They instead flooded Twitter with hashtags related to the BLM and the George Floyd case. The Blackpink girls are a big fan of Dua Lipa and this is one of the reasons the collab happened. Also, this is still the only collab song where they performed with their collaborator on a live stage. And it was a surprise. Dua Lipa happened to be in New York for the Billboard Music Awards and she heard that Blackpink is at Newark for their world tour. She reached out to YGE to express her desire to perform this with them and surprised the girls during rehearsals. Dua Lipa eventually skipped the BBMAs just to perform with them. Crowd went wild. Just the other day, our dear Rosie attended (with no other than Jeremy Erlich, the Global Head for Spotify Music) Dua's concert in LA.

I only found BlackPink & K-pop because of Dua Lipa. I loved her music since initially hearing "New Rules" & was really curious since she was working with BlackPInk & really liked "Kiss & Make Up." I was curious enough to look up BlackPink's videos & thankfully found so many artists I know love... but mostly all because of Dua. Dua has worked with a lot of diverse artists in a variety of languages. She also performed at a MAMA, which I don't think many Western artists do & Hwasa even sang one of her songs as an intro to the performance (which lead to Hwasa being featured on a remix of one of Dua's songs).

@@mosho64 well if you look at it, all 4 of them have 2 lines each, Lisa repeats same line twice, Jennie had one line before Lisa and one line with Jisoo, Rosé had one line with Jisoo then the last line near the ending, and Jisoo got 2 lines one after Rosé and one after Jennie

I really just binge watched the whole series! It was so fun watching you react to this and i love that Esosa’s reactions were mostly me when i first heard of BP. I love that you guys just went straight ahead into the reactions and didnt do a lot of pauses in the middle of the M/Vs so that shorten the time as well. The thing is...when BP do collabs they gave us another perspective/taste of the song which I love. Noticed that every collab they have done it is not as hype as typical BP sound, right? So, yeah. I like/love their collab songs..Just ma tots..Hehehe
Sour Candy was the first song BP released after i stabbed them for like almost a whole year and it was all i listened to for a few months like i was OBSESSED. Lady Gaga stans mostly agree that this is the best song and especially the best single on her Chromatica album.

Im actually happy that many western pop artists that I love even before getting into Kpop are now collaborating with all the Kpop artists I love. It’s more special to me. Lady Gaga and Dua are 2 of my favorite pop artists

Thank you so much for this series! It was like seeing my journey from 2016 as a Blink. I swear the haters always say that they are just idols turned models, that it's all just marketing and high budget production. But really, it's always been about their music ever since they debuted. Their music is 👏 JUST 👏SO 👏 GOOD!! Their voices together just friggin' work!

Sour Candy was released in May 2020, and the reason this did not get promoted that much was this was during the height of the George Floyd/BLM protests. Blinks and Little Monsters (Lady Gaga's fandom) agreed to not promote this song and flood Twitter with hashtags as a sign of respect and solidarity with the cause. They instead flooded Twitter with hashtags related to the BLM and the George Floyd case. The Blackpink girls are a big fan of Dua Lipa and this is one of the reasons the collab happened. Also, this is still the only collab song where they performed with their collaborator on a live stage. And it was a surprise. Dua Lipa happened to be in New York for the Billboard Music Awards and she heard that Blackpink is at Newark for their world tour. She reached out to YGE to express her desire to perform this with them and surprised the girls during rehearsals. Dua Lipa eventually skipped the BBMAs just to perform with them. Crowd went wild. Just the other day, our dear Rosie attended (with no other than Jeremy Erlich, the Global Head for Spotify Music) Dua's concert in LA.

Yes, thanks for this. Like many international fans, BP was the thing that led me to start exploring kpop. Also: the Miguel cover made me so angry because it reinforced what they could do if YG would unleash them more.
I only found BlackPink & K-pop because of Dua Lipa. I loved her music since initially hearing "New Rules" & was really curious since she was working with BlackPInk & really liked "Kiss & Make Up." I was curious enough to look up BlackPink's videos & thankfully found so many artists I know love... but mostly all because of Dua. Dua has worked with a lot of diverse artists in a variety of languages. She also performed at a MAMA, which I don't think many Western artists do & Hwasa even sang one of her songs as an intro to the performance (which lead to Hwasa being featured on a remix of one of Dua's songs).

Fun fact: BP are credited as lead artists for both songs and not featured. Meaning it’s equally their song as much as it is Gaga’s. Like they could put it ontheir album if they wanted to.

Sour candy came in a time where I was fuming about Jisoo's mistreatment, and it didn't help at all, so I didn't enjoy it at all, but now I really enjoy it.

Ironically, this song got me into Blackpink and I really loved Jisoo's voice, I was so unique, deep, and husky. Besides her ethereal beauty so I did some digging and now I'm Jisoo biased.

@@maysaaalabbasi hahaha yeah she sounded so good here, it was just me and the mood I had at the time it was out, I was constantly being exposed to Jisoo’s mistreatment and such, lack of lines, screen time, and overall treatment from the company and when the song came out it didn’t help my mood at all seeing how she barley had 2 lines in the whole song, but now I really enjoy it.

@@mosho64 well if you look at it, all 4 of them have 2 lines each, Lisa repeats same line twice, Jennie had one line before Lisa and one line with Jisoo, Rosé had one line with Jisoo then the last line near the ending, and Jisoo got 2 lines one after Rosé and one after Jennie

@@loki884 well Jisoo was at the last… again, so it doesn’t matter if they repeated the same line again, Jisoo was the least for the 10th time again, but as I said I’m enjoying the song now.

This song is actually what introduced me to Blackpink since I was already a fan of Dua Lipa. And now they're both my favorites so this song will always have a special place in my heart. Pus Ozlem looks like Dua Lipa

Well Luckly there is a DVD live version of Kiss and Make up where only the Blackpink members are singing the song. its lovely to hear jisoo and rosé singing Dua Lipas english parts.

I really just binge watched the whole series! It was so fun watching you react to this and i love that Esosa’s reactions were mostly me when i first heard of BP. I love that you guys just went straight ahead into the reactions and didnt do a lot of pauses in the middle of the M/Vs so that shorten the time as well. Also im really glad tht Ozlem is already a blink and could explain all the references to Esosa. Anyway well done ladies! I’ll be sure to check out more now that im subscribed!

Sour Candy sealed me liking BLACKPINK music. while they were the first group I heard, I wasn't really into it yet (DDDD, KTL) bc at the time it was too overwhelming for me musically(? but I appreciated the MV production and everything. and for sure, you should react to these stages and the show!!
