Fun fact : psy the gangam style man was in the same lable as blackpink yg entertainment one of big 3 entertainments in sk (YG , SM , JYP) each entertainment have it's own thing YG entertainment is known for the swagy style and rapping and their artists are the best at hyping up the crowd yet sadly, the company doesn't treat these talented artists in a good way , specially girl groups / female idols hope it'll change this year tho

They're selected by talent audition & been practice to singing, dancing, acting etc..for several years before début (4-6 years). So definitely they are talented & really good artists.

don't forget they also struggled during their trainee years apart from their parents and family because they had to live in a dorm that was required by the agency. because become trainee in kpop industry is very strict. so many rules and so many restrictions. Not all talented people can successfully become trainees in the KPop industry

i'm not entirely offended of how you mentioned how k-pop is a factory-esque pop-ey stuff...because there may be some truth to it...but despite of it all...it still requires hard work, talent & coordinated creativity...k-pop has been expanding internationally since the late 2000s...specifically throughout 2008 - 2014 the expansion is more agressive...it took over asia & even at that time there was already quite a "western" following... when gangnam style blew up back in 2012, it was exciting but I was low key saddened that the world was missing the true nature of k-pop...what makes k-pop unique is that they go full force in every element....the music, the bop, the talents, visuals, intense choreography, fashion straight of the runway, aesthetic music video productions witj great installation/set designers & Cgi effects, concepts, promotions etc etc distinctively k-pop does have entertainment agencies that actually form each of their respective groups...and members of these various groups are usually kept for training...some members are highly talented from the get go, but ultimately it can be taught....vocal lessons, dancing lessons, rap writting, music producing/engineering, gym, nutritional coaching, ethics, speech therapy, english/japanese/chinese lessons, fan services, acting etc etc even commonly provide plastic surgery & housing...when a member is deemed compentent to promote, they will debut them to a group..usually trainee life can take between 2-5 years, some maybe even more than that these days Bts & Blackpink are outstandingly popular, they too had to go through this trainee process...and Blackpink does come from a big entertainment company, so even before they debuted, the anticipation was already high and it would come with no surprise that their music videos will be of superior quality...and these days many new groups are blessed with the advanced technology and the use of social media/instagram is more prevalent than how it was 10 years ago.. we can't deny that k-pop has certainly take inspiration from western music...these days other than the usual pop sound/beat..k-pop is exploring various genres pop, EDM, ballad, r&b, hip-hop, Trap, funk, alternative, rock, accoustic, jazz, house, retro, indie, country, latin anything you name it....probably the most distinctive thing that u wont find anywhere else these days in k-pop is the bubble-gum pop genre...it comprises of overtly cutesy/innocent concepts...something I do not recommend YET for you to watch...so mind you that K-pop is not a genre but an Industry I recommend to see some other groups, and u will see all the things I said may make sense to you:) Sistar - Alone (2012) 2NE1 - Comeback home (2014) Red Velvet - Bad boy (2018) (G)idle - Lion (2019) omg sorry for the long ass comment hahaha

Okay some background, all 4 auditioned to be trainees in the Korean entertainment system. Jennie was a trainee for 5 yrs 11 months, Jisoo and Lisa 5 yrs 1 month and Rose' 4 yrs at YG Entertainment. As trainees they were required to perform a dance routine, solo, duet and group song monthly. Sure Thing is one of those. Their trainee schedule was 12 hour days with 1 day off every other week, they lived in a dorm. Daily schedule was dance class, vocals, acting, modeling, and public speaking. Plus academics, as many trainees are 14 yo (Lisa was 14 when she started). This performance was on a Korean TV show "Party People" hosted by J.Y.Park who is the CEO of JYP. YG and JYP work together with their trainees and it is likely where he first heard this performance. The production and arrangement is all by the girls. Plus the rap lyrics were written by Jennie and Lisa. I realize they are new to you, but understand they are huge worldwide, if you want to see crazy check the videos of them arriving or departing at the airports. You also need to react to BTS who are bigger than Blackpink, they are a boy Kpop band.

If the artist on YG ENT doing something wrong, their CEO will fighting with that problem and face it. Not like other agency who always talking and give statement behind the door of the company without ever really facing it.

The whole “going solo” thing doesn’t really happen in K-POP like it does with Western girl groups. It’s normal and almost expected for girl group members to release solo songs while they’re still in the group. It’s great actually. Jennie released a solo song last year. The other girls are all expected to release solo music in the near future. Their company founder said that Rosé is next to release her solo song.
