    you can also use a Sabrent NVMe drive but you need external power to push it. The benefit of that is faster speed when you eventually transfer files to your main computer or iPad Pro for editing. The small Belkin 4 into 1 port USB-C hub has a port for external power like a small power bank. Into the USB-C hub you can run a USB-c DJI wireless mic or equalvilent. Lots of possibilities now that we have a USB-C iPhone. Thanks for the audio tips with the Black Magic Cam app. I learned some things.

But i would also like to record to an SSD which uses the usb c port. So if i can connect to the PC (windows) via wifi and use the tether app that would solve that problem. But not even panasonic is sure about how to do this ( i called them) or if it is even possible. I would imagine that if you can connect the GH5 2 via wifi you can do the s52x as well. Any thoughts?

    I've got the 15 Pro and I've seen that when I finish recording, depending on the size of the video it take more or less time to appear on the SD Card. I think that when the external storage isn't fast enough the shot is buffered and then sent to the external storage. Maybe it's not happening when it's a SSD with fast writing, but might be wrong.

  • @iphoneographers

    @iphoneographers

    8 ай бұрын

    Have seen that too - and I think that’s the case that it’s buffering as it goes to the card. This is good though as it allows slower cards to work. But definitely something to keep an eye on and make sure the files don’t have dropped frames.

    @@iphoneographers I know how to render a sequence or a video when it on the timeline, but how do you render a video from HEVC to Pro Res? I tried looking for videos on youtube and I can't seem to find any that shows how to do so.

    The best way is to transcode it before you use your editing app, so use Adobe Media Encoder for example or Compressor.

    one issue i have is when i have the SSD plugged into the hub, the battery doesn't charge the phone. i also trued it with a regular y-splut usb-c cable and it still doesn't charge the phone. is there any way to overcome this and have it charge the phone at the same time? I tried to put a magsafe power charger on the back, but after a bit the phone got too hot and i got a "system pressure high" warning & it stops recording.

    Are you using an “Advanced“ style hub like I showed? The pass-through for charging should work if so. But remember, some ports are for charging and some are for data transfer, but they’re not the same. And yeah, MagSafe can get hot but also so can regular charging, especially if you’re shooting 4K and higher frame rate or in log. The phone definitely heats up.

    @@iphoneographers i used the Belkin fast multi-port usb-c hub from your gear list. it seems i should be using the advanced one that you suggested. I just ordered it so will try it out. Thanks!

    When you reach a “rig” level and external mic as well as recording log to an external SSD …etc , why not use a real camera like Blackmagic pocket?

    Sure. I use one a lot. But having this as an option or B camera is great. Also too you can’t shoot 4K 60 Apple Log without going to an SSD with the native app.

    What am I doing wrong? I tried using an apple hub adapter on the iphone 15 pro max so that I could link a USB Hub that has an as card. However, it says that the phone can not power it?

    Sounds like that particular hub pulls too much wattage.

    Very important to stress: the Apple cables are “2” NOT USB 3 data transfer. Was concerned about data to SSD before you introduced the hubs. While you’ve shown very affordable solutions(!), its time to find a rig- or print a container.
