Yes our people come from a long line of genocide, decolonization and the stealing of our lands and we’ve faced a lot of trama this causes some of our people to sit around feel sorry for themselves and unfortunately quite a lot of our people suffer from alcoholism and drug abuse because of this. I’ve never understood this though why not build ourselves and our people back up and show the true warriors we are and represent the long line of indigenous warriors we come from. I simply cannot get behind blackbraid on this one unfortunately pulling the race card is incredibly pathetic and annoying on their end.

I mean, you killed each other, too. People forget (also natives like to too) that American Indians had fights and battles between them too. People today act like before any light-skinned person stepped foot on the americas, the natives where just happy, super-peaceful people, but it wasn't like that. In the beginning they kinda hoped the Spaniards can help them getting rid of the aztecs they had big problems with. They also often fought over territories and whatnot. Native Americans were warriors. You're not a warrior if you've never fought! Also the settlers peacefully BOUGHT land from the natives. Didn't happen everywhere, but it happened. Look at some african countries today. People still fighting to get some land from some tribe back or get another tribe eradicated. The Cypriots got land stolen from them too, and now they have to share half of their territory with turks. And this happened in the 20th century. You can't live in the past forever and blame all your fails on things that happened in the past to your ancestors 200 years ago or smth. Parts of my family were blown away and cremated alive during the Dresden bomb raids, and they were civilians, the youngest being 2 years old. Now I live in Finland and the events rules are pretty much the same in Norway, my cousin came to visit me and we went to a concert and they kicked us out (luckily after the concert) because we were apparently too drunk, but to be honest we were only too much loud probably (not sober but not even close to be wasted). Your average American doesn’t even have a passport and when you factor in how poor native Americans are generally, I couldn’t imagine many are here in Europe at all. I think the problem is just ignorance on the bands part. You're going to a new area, where customs are different, and you might not know about it. This becomes an issue, because most of the melodrama over here (America), we're told that the patrons and customers are always right. So, the younger crowd (internet generation) first instinct is to pull out a phone and record whatever the situation may be. I think Blackbraid, being ignorant (not an insult) on festival customs out of the US was the main culprit. I think the security was just doing their job spot on, and have no complaints from the festival side. It's just a little wild to me that this is still an issue. Yes, I am American (with Hispanic origins), but this is just plain fucking stupid. Sounds like another typical privileged American to me.

I think a lot of Americans have difficulties adjusting to a different "culture" in Europe. The "customer is always right" attitude might be an explanation, thatll only get you so far here. 😂 Most embarrassing and distasteful event I witnessed was when a group of Americans entered a restaurant shoving a cellphone camera into a chief waiters face at a restaurant, shouting at him and harassing him -- because he left people waiting in line outside because the restaurant was full. They also accused him of being a racist (one of the guests waiting outside was a black woman).

Seriously, I don't know any reason why to act like that, it's not even a "crywolf" (typical internet terms) or something similar...it's just idiotic behavior! Pure truth. "Racism" excuses are the top notch of idiocy on the internet sometimes: man, you're in a different Country and every Country has its own rules! The first you have to do when you go outside your Country is to inform yourself about the laws of the COuntry you're going to. It's ten thousand times better than pushing a drama on the social networks for distorted (racism...) reasons!

Great level headed video. It might interest some of you that in Norway, if you are totally sober, as in not had a single drink, but you fall asleep on a premises where alcohol is served, you will be shown the door. It is very important that people look into situations to uncover the facts before making up their own narratives. I know, emotions run high and it becomes increasingly hard not to act out, but the fact is that emotions alone is not a good pathway to truth. If you reside in Norway, you can take on look at this whole story and it becomes quite accessible to connect the dots. You wanna know why? Because all of us blokes (and probably a few girls) whom live in this country have at some point or another been kicked out of venues and bars for the very same reason(s). So these discussions with security seen in the video are extremely familiar to us, even down to some guy on the sideline injecting himself into the argument. This video is even a separate argument, the spitting has already occurred and they are still on the festival grounds. I seriously doubt they would be so forgiving towards someone living here, just my opinion. I also see a lot of equivocation fallacies by people that support the band. Just because one can point to racism in a separate event/situation, does not automatically give weight to the bands claims in this specific situation. Stop making non-sequitur points on unrelated matters. Racism is very real, in Norway as everywhere else, but calling out accountability, (where there is non), to avoid your own accountability does us all a big disfavor. I guess the only people that really gleefully benefit by all this are the people that are actually racist. Due to the polarizing divide between what are ultimately good people. I do not want to shit on the band, they might genuinely have been confused in the heat of the moment. But at this point, where several facts are pretty much readily available to everyone, the proper thing to do would be to at least acknowledge you might have taken the fast track to a faulty conclusion. I am a Norwegian citizen, I worked in bars for 10 years, even took an "education" in bar-tending which focuses heavily on the legality side of the business. I work in HR today, I am a metal-guy and I have a immigrant background. Of course, this does not make me right by default, but perhaps it offers a good insight and perspective.

This law is in place for your safety. When stumbling upon a unconscious individual, it is hard to discern between if said person is resting, drunk/high or even dead. The law is there to prevent tragic outcomes. If the law was absent, security might be less prone on checking in on each and every individual. One can agree or disagree with the law. Many feel that grown-ups dont need this level of baby-sitting. Psychologically, it can truely be percieved as pandering when the recipient is in a vulnerable state. (And this case carry a ton of potential vulnerbilities: inibriation, jet-lag, exhaustion, foriegn country, language barrier, past experiences, cultural, sociological and political differences). But wether one agrees with this law or not, is a seperate political matter. Can I with 100 percent certainty say the band didnt encounter any racism at the festival? No, I was not present, but the specific complaints presented by the band themselves, pluss the videos accompanying these complaints just shows security doing what they are bound to do by law. Can a law be exploited to target a specific group? Yes, it happens all the time. But given the sleeping, the spitting, the video evidence, the complaints/discription of the situation rendered by the band themselves, and the history of outcomes for this spesific scenario, concluding with racial motivation is just too problematic. Make no mistake, security can be total dicks, but there is no auto-correlation between being a dick and being a racist. And to be perfectly clear, in this instance, I do not even think the security seem particularly dicky. (My opinion).

hello boris, wasn’t going to comment but changed my mind. my mom migrated here from croatia and dad from italy here to us , i am 56 years old now, i grew up alot of my childhood on a native american reservation learned there culture and made many friends!! perfect what you said concerning the situation at festival. im not defending their actions but would like to defend them as people, our fkd up racism over here is unfortunately still fkd up as other parts of the world. i’ve seen firsthand from living on reservation this racism from white people, the stigma from white people here towards native americans has a long history and im only speaking about my experiences growing up there in the late 70’s, so i understand the white people comment, its ingrained in them from their experiences and past! they have been through alot im sure so if a white person comes at them well they go to that as first reaction, you are right you have to stop and think, they were in a place in norway totally different culture playing around the world they have alot to learn, but i want people to understand their culture as well and why probably their reaction, hope everyone gives them a chance to perform their art, ive been waiting years to see a native band like this come into the metal scene to represent their culture through metal, im hoping the community will give them this chance to learn from this, and yes grow up !!! we all make mistakes and we are all brothers in metal 🤘love what you have been doing boris hail brother!

Hey, as European (Slovenia) I feel like Americans mostly don't understand, that they can't just play race card in Europe, because people won't give a fuck. There is a lot of "racism" between our countries (hey even between Slovenia and Croatia:) ) but a lot of it is considered as jokes and people don't get offended by it. It's hard to explain this, but like you said, they saying that security "is targeting brown people" is just laughable to me, and I can imagine this would play out VERY differently in USA. this is my short rant. I Still support and love their music, but I also have nothing against this festival. I don't want to act like know better than anyone, but just please stop with playing victim everytime you need take responsibility

Unfortunately, this is extremely common in the United States these days. A minority breaks a rule or law and cries racism when confronted or held responsible, regardless of whether or not there's any actual racism involved. As a former festival security officer, I see someone looking passed out on the ground, I'm going to assume they're having a medical situation and assess them. "Bro, I'm just trying to sleep" Well, sleep somewhere else!

Good video and break down. While this was happening it was difficult to get the full story. I like Blackbraid and I was excited for their quick success. However, I was worried how that success would affect them. Being nothing to widely known in a community that is very critical in under a year has a lot of risks socially. Unfortunately they took the wrong turn here. I also wish them continued success and I'm happy to see them again with WITTR later this year.

I agree 100%. True racism is terrible, however this is not the case here. This kind of thing is starting to become a trend in America. Crying “racism” without thinking rationally about a situation. We talked to the guitarist the night it happened and heard his side of the story, it’s nice to hear the other side. Midgardsblot was amazing and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more welcomed, or more of a sense of community at a festival. Also it was great talking to you guys!
