White men have been nicer to me in the workplace more than white women. I honestly prefer male bosses because it’s usually about just getting the job done instead of this weird competition thing with women. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I've worked with many different people, over four decades, over forty different companies. I'm not black or white, but multi ethnic. I also would choose the WM first. The most I've ever had to put up with from them was mansplaining and condescension, and I have also been able to be direct with them about it and have it resolved. In my experience younger WW and older WW are very different. My second choice is the younger, WW who were more helpful and easy going. However i found the older WW, BW, and a few younger BW to be the most pushy, gossipy or ruthless. I have also experienced the most sexual harassment from all groups of non white males of all ages.

The fact that Black women have to explain the answer just reinforces why an overwhelming amount, especially those who’ve worked in corporate environments, made the same choice. We don’t need to explain this to other Black women because they have the same experiences.

Same. I have no friends. Every friend I've ever had, man or woman, no matter the cultural background, has always reached a point where they either got jealous/envious, felt ashamed of my presence, or had feelings I can't reciprocate. Which ALWAYS ends up with them treating me like trash. With the exception of one man, who, upon moving in with him, decided that it was my job to clean, cook and do all else while he played video games literally all day, every day and sometimes all night. I've turned into a hermit and anything that I can do with people, I can do by myself anyway.

I got into an argument with my cowork(white) in front of my manager her best friend and also the reason she had the job. The argument was because she believed I HAD to talk to her when I come into the house before clocking in. I came in and spoke to the people who spoke to me she did not speak so neither did I. Her and the manager both tagged teamed me as to how that was wrong I was told I had a really bad attitude because I'm quiet. I don't speak to anyone unless they're talking to me because I don't like bothering people and vice versa.I literally told them If I spent 15 minutes everyday walking through the house talking to people BEFORE clocking in within a week I've already lost over a hour of work just from talking. That's a full day I gave the company a month and 12 full days a year I'm working for free just to placate her feelings. I wasn't doing it and didn't do it. I reported both of them but since the lady's uncle owned the company nothing happened. Nobody else had that expectation but since I'm young my coworkers tend to treat me like I'm a brainless child.

I hate how in corporate environments BW are often expected to be the loud, chatty, sassy stereotypes of the extraverted token BW like you see in most Hollywood movies, but if you're quiet, introverted, or are just minding your own business, you get told off and/or punished for "bad attitude".

And tbh the more "feminine" men care about my pleasure so their way better in the bedroom too. Why would I not want it that way?

Not every child-free woman is child-free by choice. Also, I'm sorry that some mothers carry that superior attitude. I'm a mom but in no way do I feel superior to other women. Working in corporate America for 20+ years I would absolutely without a doubt choose the white man. Lady in the blue sweater broke it down perfectly. Basically, in the bear context (comparing women), the white woman is the bear and oftentimes operate as such. I think it is because as women we are all oppressed but they are at an advantage in the tier ranking and many know it. I think the oppression causes competition maybe unknowingly, but it happens.

Thank you for putting this collection of testimony together! I am currently experiencing similar BS causing me extreme mental and emotional distress. The only thing I was able to process initially which I verbally said to a selected few friends is "I can't anymore with working under wyte women"... one of my black colleague said you should look up the current Tiktok trend on WW vs WM boss based on black women perspectives. I don't have Tiktok so I checked on here... this just validates so much of my recent experience. When they cannot use you as the token black girl that fits their ideal of black excellence in a wyte workspace, they will fight you by undermining you, putting traps, and their methods are always the same very sneaky, creating psychological war fares. Many aren't like that, true. WW who are older and very successful will usually be the one willing to mentor you a "minority person" as they already made it because competition no longer apply. Someone here said, it representative of how they act among themselves but on a much vicious and detrimental scale when it is done against minority groups.... 100% While we, BW are often perceived aggressive because we speak passionately, WW can get away with murder because their aggression is done in sneaky ways. I feel like I'm reliving the trauma our ancestors may have felt under much worse conditions but still... I work in government and honestly thinking of quitting. I see a few black sisters who made it to the top of the ladder in this environment and I'm just realizing how much trauma they had to endure to get there... me losing my mental health is not worth it. Def, at a crossroad workwise, I need to make a decision. Not sure if working under a BW would be better. But yes being under a WM all day, every day... I dare to say I rather even deal with potentially a WM who is sexually harassing me because my brain is more equipped to dodge or manage that than dealing with a WW as a boss. Sad but trute!

Thank you again to the Black women who shared this. Last week, a young Black woman came into my workplace to test for a job. It’s very common in my industry to do a series of tasks before getting the job. I had to do it, too. I’m a white woman and a Black woman walks into my workplace, wanting to join the team. I thought immediately of this video! So, I greeted her warmly. Told her I was happy to answer any questions. Then let her concentrate while I did my work. I didn’t want to be creepy, just wanted to make her comfortable. She asked a lot of good questions. I answered them all clearly and told her she was doing great. I just found out she got the job & I’m psyched to have her on the team! I hope I did all right. Workplace drama is so ridiculous.

Honestly I’m loving this awakening. I’m gen z & I never in my life thought white women would ever see the error in the ways and be OPEN to a conversation & actual self-reflection & change. It’s really a beautiful thing to see ppl pulling up to the table & not just getting offended & backing down. The Bear situation was an eye-opener to all and then to break it down even further to the way some white women behave was needed. Currently, my white male co-worker has blatantly told me he’s gunning for my position since he doesn’t think I’m qualified to be in a Senior position & he only a Junior-at least he’s honest. My white female ex-supervisor was the worse I ever had: constantly talked about my natural hair, told me to stop eating at work because i had put on weight & that’s why I couldn’t pass fitness test(eventhough I did), & purposely tried to stop my career by applying for the same position I did at another base & recommended they choose her over me since she has seniority. It was sooo traumatic.

I get it. I do get it. I've seen it happen in an office setting and made a concerted effort not to feed into office politics (no flowers being requested here, just stating). I don't know if maybe it's because I'm ACE and fairly unambitious, but I genuinely feel zero competition with and want the women around me to succeed up and try to encourage them. I don't know what I can do other than this as well as speaking up when I do see or hear something that is absolutely not cool. But, I also have very few friends - I can count them on one hand and I've known them all since we were in school. With my work colleagues, I'm friendly, but uninterested in friendships. We're work colleagues and I like to keep that boundary. I kind of hope it allows women working around me to relax. I'm not buddying up to you to stab you in the back - I'm not ambitious enough. Is there anything I can do to make it a more comfortable environment for the women who work around me? I'm asking in a genuine request for information.
