HR here. Firing them is safe. The George Floyd accountability act will NOT be A law unless that law that stops former employers from bad mouthing you is abolished. Currently a former employer can only answer YES or NO if they would rehire you! No details needed!!! This can be filled out or a phone call can be made that’s not recorded and on that call…… smh they speak freely. This is why they RESIGN!!!

I share a similar experience after having a miscarriage. The Doctor failed to clean the fetus completely out. He was too busy being a comedian, “well, you lost that one.” This man chuckled at the loss of my child. Two days later I’m back in the same hospital in more pain than seemed humanly possible to endure. I was writhing in pain, screaming uncontrollably when this RN chastised me and told me I would not get any assistance if I didn’t shut up! I had already been waiting for over an hour in the waiting room. Through my pain, I could not understand why she was so angry with me. I was in so much pain, and they would not give me pain medicine. I was dying and I knew it. At that point I welcomed it. I finally shut up when I passed out. I was rushed by ambulance to a larger hospital. I would wake up screaming because of the pain and then pass out again, because of the pain. After the last time I passed out I woke a day later. A doctor told me, had it taken me 30 mins longer to get to that hospital, I would have been DOA. The first doctor left a portion of the fetus inside my womb and I was dying from sepsis. My blood was infected by the dead tissue of my baby. This happened in Mississippi 23 years ago. But it saddens me that situations like this still occur. No one should have to experience inhumane treatment at the hands of those that took an oath to do no harm.

20 yrs ago I had my baby at a hospital. I was 36. I had a doula. All my medical professionals were white. I am black. My birth was not complicated but I was unable to move to ease the birth. I was forced to lay on my back for hours. Pinotocin was prescribed. The side effect of this is cramping and frequent urine output. After many hours I was told to have a nerve block. My doula wasn’t anywhere to be found. The nurses, apathetic and rude. Eventually I was told that my amniotic fluid was low and I needed a c section and I had a lemon sized fibroid blockage of the canal. Time passed and I was restrained. I was not combative. I was not doing anything other than asking to reposition off my back. My arms and legs were strapped onto the table as I was wheeled into the operating room. They said it was for my own safety so I wouldn’t rip down the operating theater as if I was a violent criminal. Within minutes my belly was opened. My daughter extracted and I was hastily sewn up and sent back to my room to recover. I was traumatized and just wanted to go home. I asked not to have my baby fed by bottle. They gave her a bottle anyway for three days and would not bring her to me. I tried to breastfeed her but she would not and she became nipple confused and couldn’t latch properly. I did not give up. She cried due to hunger for days and my experience with the healthcare system was forever changed. I cursed that hospital from the bottom of my my ancestral soul for how they treated me and my baby. That hospital is no longer there, torn down and replaced by another building. I suffer with the memory of this, nothing can be done.

nothing has changed. I remember when I was in pre term labor with my 1st child in 1989, white nurse was telling me be quiet, I probably didn't make as much noise when I made the baby. I tried to call my mother on the phone to tell my folks how I was being treated but they were listening to my conversation over the intercom. I notice the red light activated on the wall. After that the nurse blatantly warned me against telling stories to my family. I was 17 years old. I had high blood pressure and felt so afraid. All my adult life I've had to battle with Healthcare providers. If I wasn't so honorary I'd probably be dead because of misdiagnosis or underdiagnosing. Heck, had a dr go out of his way to write a letter to a program I needed help from to tell them I was lying...yet he still took my money to see me and tried to push pain pills I refused to take. Yeahhh I FEEL this 😔

This happened to me as well. I was in labor with my only son and I told the Dr the pain was excruciating that I needed help. He dismissed me and told me to go home that I was not progressing. I told him how can you tell me to go home I am post dated at 41 weeks? I told him he I was going nowhere. The next thing I knew was I felt a sharp stab of pain like someone was sawing my uterus and I screamed and the nurses checked me only to see that my uterus had ruptured and my son was swimming in a pool of amniotic fluid, blood 🩸 and stomach fluids. They knocked me out instantly and gave me an emergency c section. My son spent a few days in nicu to be stabilized. There are very racist biases when it comes to pregnant women especially. Also, I would like to say there is a heavy bias against ANY patient who complains about pain in hospitals. I have learned this from experience. It's better to simply tell them you're in fact in pain, but not to talk about it too much beyond that. I was angrily told, while I was on my 15th hour of labor, to lower my voice because my crying was disturbing other patients on that floor. I was told repeatedly, " We will NOT be giving you any narcotics!" I hadn't asked for any. I was asked if I had taken any illegal drugs, while I was pregnant, repeatedly. The doctor told my mother, " if she doesn't quit that crying, I'm gonna slap her into next week." My baby's head was lodged in the birth canal and her heart rate kept dropping, when I pushed. They finally, after an hour of telling me I wasn't pushing hard enough, they used forceps to reposition her head. My baby came right out easily at that point. Some doctors and nurses just don't have enough compassion about people to do their job.

Because society views me as a white woman I have NEVER had trouble getting anything prescribed. Most of the time docs are all too willing to write a script for me instead of provide alternative solutions to my medical issues. 10 yrs ago, during a bout of depression/anxiety/insomnia around seizures I had been having, I was prescribed oxy, Ativan, fentanyl, gabapentin, and Xanax among other meds which were constantly changing and I had to ask the doctors to stop because having meds thrown at me instead of fixing the problems doesn’t do anything but create addicts. Meanwhile women of color struggle to get the meds that they seriously need. These kinds of disparities should never happen. We need to be doing more to address this.

I watched a black KZreadr's story about giving birth in Japan, a country where most people haven't seen black people before, and was treated a million times better than she would have been here. It was amazing, they catered to her every needs and didn't seem to have a problem with it. Their goal was to make sure she had a comfortable birth and stay at the hospital and that's what did. They probably hadn't seen a black woman in person before but that didn't stop them from caring about her and her baby. Just a glaring far cry from how America treats its own God d*mn citizens!

I ended up sitting in the lobby, sobbing my eyes out waiting for a monitoring room because my blood pressure couldn't be read. Thank God for another black nurse that noticed my pain and made the decision to take me to labor and delivery instead. I had to be put under anesthesia just so I wouldn't bleed out. I was diagnosed with H.E.L.L.P and a minor stroke. My son was placed in ICU and we didn't meet until the day after delivery. I still have PTSD, and refused to have any other children.

I told them tylenol and pepto. They insisted i must be drug seeking, because the symptoms i was describing sounded like withdrawal. WTF? NOT AT ALL. Within 9 hours of showing up at the ER, my colon ruptured and and i almost died. I had a perforated colon that started leaking feces into my blood stream. Within an hour of having a CAT scan, i was having emergency surgery to remove 12 inches of my colon to save my life. I'm sure if i had been a pretty little white girl they would have believed me.
