Very interesting process, Tom. It's a fascinating pattern. I like the unexpected patterns that resulted on the sides; they're almost negative images of each other, but not quite. I find it more intriguing than if the diamond pattern repeated all the way around the bowl. It's a bit unexpected. Good job putting it together. That certainly took a lot of patience. The result was amazing. By the way, making an object on the lathe is usually called turning. You turn a bowl or turn a candlestick. Your referred to the process a couple of times as "latheing" which I think you'll find isn't really a word. It's one of the peculiarities of the English language, I suppose. You plane a board with a plane, saw a board with a saw, drill a hole with a drill, but you turn a piece in a lathe. That show on NPR that airs on Saturday afternoon about words and language use mentioned a similar situation where the usage describing something (I forget what it was at the moment) was inconsistent. Maybe I'll call them and ask them about why a board was sawed with a saw but turned with a lathe? Thanks for posting the video.

Hi Tom, I joined the segmented group last week and found your video there. This bowl is amazing to me and way down the road as I just began segmenting last year. The patterns on this bowl are something else!I could see the "criss-cross" pattern beforehand bot not the other patterns that came to life as you turned it.Do you foresee these odd patterns before you actually turn the bowls? Thanks so much for making this video and I wish others did the same thing so we (as beginners) could watch and learn from people like you! Tom
