These guys are "The Real Deal," this is who they are, they are not pretenders!!!
Ain’t nothing “average” or “white” about them. 😂 These guys always have a smooth groove in their songs. Next recommended AWB song: “Pick Up the Pieces”

So true!! Thank you for your comment!
They were originally 5 white guys from Scotland. When a friend of theirs came to one of their first gigs, he said, "You have too much funk for the average white man." They liked it, so they called themselves the Average White Band. Check out these two songs from their Person to Person live album: Cut the Cake, Cloudy. Two really great live songs!! Cut the Cake live version is funky cool, and Cloudy is a soulful ballad where Hamish hits some awesome high notes!!

Words my man, all under the jazz funk and soul banner to me
The Average White Band (AWB) is a soul, funk & R&B band originally started in 1972 from Scotland & they continue to tour today (2021) with 2 original band members remaining in the group...They are not a one hit wonder either...They were the 1st "white" group to ever play "Live" on Soul Train because they're so soulful & funky!!! Here is the Link to a more updated version to this song "A Love Of Your Own" - In Concert where they performed it at The House Of Blues in Los Angeles, California; there they took this song to another level and the video quality is better too: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hK6Ml6SKp9PSfto.html Here are some more of their hits: "Pick Up The Pieces," "Cut The Cake," "Person To Person," "School Boy Crush," "Cloudy," "Work To Do," "Queen Of My Soul," "I'm The One" and "If I Ever Lose This Heaven." Sincerely, CR SoundDoctor

The name is LEGENDARY!!! Their music is TIMELESS!! Music transcends......it's POWERFUL!!
Beautiful!! Old school music ❤️
Pick up the Pieces was their hug hit. Pure instrumental Funk!
AWB Forever. This a jam you will never ever forget. JP
They are from Scotland originally. American soul ran deep into many artists of the ‘70s.
InCREdible IT IS 👏 🎉🎉🎉
I was fortunate enough to see AWB in concert in Hollywood back in the day. They had a special guest there that also showed up and that was Marvin Gaye. How special was that!
These cats are from SCOTLAND...jammed this all around my momma house in the seventies
WE KNEW THEM AS AWB
I always liked them, but I had a gf in high school who would absolutely not shut up about Hamish Stuart. Hey, I loved his voice, too.....and his songwriting, his musicianship, etc, but I'm only just discovering what a gorgeous man he is. "Cut the Cake", "Pick up the Pieces"; anything from the album Feel No Fret, particularly "Atlantic Avenue" or "When Will You Be Mine?"..actually, you can't go wrong with AWB.
Love, love, love your reaction nephew. FYI: the culture, community and the hood know ALL bout this bop/band 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
We grew up with them back in the day!! Jam ya'll 💖⚘
Man you got me on the floor 😂 Yeah When I was a kid my dad put me down with them. They were very popular round the way. You also got a new subscriber here
There are some clips of their appearance on soul train. It’s particularly great because they played live for an audience of dancers. Great stuff! Audience got a real treat and they knew it!
In the tradition of The Stylistics, Delfonics, Spinners, 70s soul masters
Next for your AWB listening experience - these recommendations: Person to Person, School boy Crush , and If I ever lose this heaven( to name a few)
Scottish soul 😃
AWB is just great ..check out School Boy Crush....fantastic track from them..xoxox singer Hamish Stuart (trying to remember his name ,lol) on guitar ,played with Paul McCartney in the 80s too..
I've always considered these 2 guys ,( Hamish Stuart / Alan Gorrie ) as the "Lennon and McCartney of Funk"... To SING like THIS is ONE thing.. To PLAY AND SING like this BOTH, SIMULTANEOUSLY, is incredibly another thing ✅✅✅Love ♥️ their RAW TALENT.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🙂
I am so blessed! I got to see them live on the "Soul Searchin" tour. Every song on this album is a knock out, but few are like this one. Such a heart felt song and message.
I love your reaction. I'm a "hunky" who grew up with a white jazz pianist mother who taught me music appreciation of all sorts. I am lucky in that I got to see AWB live on their "Soul Searchin" tour (at there pinnacle) where they performed this song. Long live the soul of true funk.
O lawd all of a sudden y'all finally digging average white band we commented a while back now it's all over you tube lawd lawd you finally getting it give these white boys their props bout time lawd that sax mmm
In the 1970s The Average White Band was at the top of charts everywhere they actually ruled the black R&B stations they were on Soul Train many times they have a lot more songs Schoolboy Crush pick up the pieces cloudy just to name a few if you have anyone in your family that were young and the 70s I do not see how you could miss this and the kicker to this one they are from Scotland
Hamish was always the palest, most ginger, brother in the room!! These guys are/were the real deal! 😁🏴
great reaction video! Never heard this song before....and if this were on the radio today, it would hit #1 on the charts! no cap!
I am English and this was the height of the 70's disco era, I was 18yrs old when this band hit the scene with " Pick up the pieces " a funky instrumental. You need to check out " Let's go round again " and a fantastic version of an Isley Brothers song " Work to do ". among other great songs they did.
Check out their live lp, recorded in 1975, with I'm the One, Schoolboy Crush, and the rest. True funk/soul.
Hey RT 2.0, Without seeing them, most people have thought that they were a Black group because of how soulful they sound. You mentioned being glad to see them live," a lot of people have reacted to this band's name in a similar way. Please keep in mind that their name was never meant to have any negative racial connotations, as I mentioned in my previous comments, they started in the early 70's back in Scotland and their name was birthed from a quirky joke, as they had a friend that traveled a lot to different places around the world, upon his return from his journeys he would make statements like: "the weather there was either too hot or too cold for the "average white man." They heard things like that so many times from this guy, that they thought to themselves, hey let's call ourselves the "Average White Band!!!" I read somewhere in another comment that makes great sense about the marketing of their name: "under-promise" but "over-deliver!!!" And wow, do these guys deliver the soul & the funk!!!

I love your comment !! That is exactly the reaction when I first heard them when everybody else heard them ! Their first release was pick up the pieces that's when I first heard them so I guess I'm telling you my age 🤣They are considered in the music industry Legendary Timeless 🎶🎶🎶🎶 and they are still on tour only with one of the original that is left from this legendary band

@@jalawoods1192 There are still 2 original members touring with them today: Onnie McIntyre on guitar and Alan Gorrie the leader of the band who plays both bass & guitar...Both originally from Scotland!!!
Man in the 70's you couldn't hardly go to a night club and not hear this song! Bands do this song on cruise ships! It was even converted into a contemporary gospel song.
You got to watch out for that Blue Eyed Soul. Loved your reaction Bro..
Not just white..Scottish white 😂. Why have I never heard of these guys. They're unbelievable 👏👏
Oh my, you’ve found a classic band. To me they were underrated. They have some good songs to listen to. My favorite is let’s go round again.
What can you say? That's Blue-eyed Soul at its best.
Check out School Boy Crush from them
Brah! Ur reaction is GOLD! 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
I love seeing your reaction it's blowing your mind isn't it ? Just like it blew my mind when it was First released on vinyl record ! You're listening to them live. I also seen them live too many of times ! You're looking at All the original band members of AWB Go back and listen to their recordings the original recordings from all their albums all their songs . This group is still on tour with only one original member left with this band ! This group is considered in the music industry Legendary Timeless 🎶🎶🎶 and I hope one day they make it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 😍
Awb, cloudy, school boy crush, pick up the pieces a must hear!!!
Our host is outstanding! He, too, is such a great entertainer. What a very beautiful ballad.
Man these guys grow up listening to a lot of Motown n Soul Music .
1973, 50 years ago. My Senior year of High. They got several more fabulous hits. Check it out!
Brah AWB is in my top 10 greatest groups of all time I seen them in concert when I was like 15 years old and they totally jammed out. That's just one of their hits here's some more. Cloudy, School Boy Crush, Cut the Cake, Pick up the Pieces, Love your Life TLC just to name a few. Those guys were very talented and I would put them up against any of the top groups like your Earth Wind and Fire and the Commodores.

The drummer Steve Ferrone later played with Eric Clapton and was the full time drummer with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers replacing Stan Lynch.
Blue. Eyed. Soul. 😍
MANN!!! I FEEL YOU!
Straight up! Bad bros
These guys sound blacker than black. What's even mind-blowing is that they're from Scotland.
So happy to see these guys getting recognized and appreciated for how great they were. Funny thing is black people and hip hop fans have been listening to them for years but just didn't know it. I first became a fan way back in the 90's trying to DJ experiment with "Pick up the Pieces" because I have always thought that was one of the funkiest songs ever recorded. When I finally found the record in a record store and saw who they were, I was of course surprised that almost all of them were white, only mildly tho. However, I was SHOCKED to find out they were from Scotland! 🤯. Anyways, they are some bad bad boys and the fact the fact that they are not in the Rock and Roll HOF is ridiculous and tragic.
There are a lot more “Blue Eyed Soul” that you haven’t heard yet…Check out Teena Marie!!!
Sir check out "" Queen of my Soul "" I think you will Love it.Thanks for the Video.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎶💯
These guys originated a classic Chaka Khan jam, 'wotcha gonna do for me'. Legends

Actually it was written by Hamish Stuart, who is singing lead here.
blue eyed soul they called it
Now drop the funk with Schoolboy Crush, Pick Up The Pieces and Cut the Cake. Then drop Cloudy and If I Ever Lose This Heaven. AWB were incredible. Saw them 3 times back in the 70's. Not to be dismissed!!!
Great sound.

They are Scottish!!! LOVE THEM since HIGH SCHOOL!!!
You need to check out their last hit, let's go round again, that's more of an Ojays type sound.
Listen to “If I ever lose this heaven” and “ Schoolboy crush” and “Work to do”
His HAIR!
I know exactly what you mean & I'm white. Knew of them but not well. Pick up the Pieces was a big hit! ❤❤❤
❤ this. Same reaction people had to the Bee Gees.

But they sing with more soul than the BeeGees. The BeeGees were mord pop and disco oriented. AWB is funky.
You must here school boy crush.....awesome
They almost called the popo on me I played this song over and over and over and over. Along with another song called School Boy Chrush.
I would trade the days for the world good times good music.
Hey brother, please listen to a few of their other songs. "Cut the Cake", "School Boy Crush", "Pick up the Pieces". Thank you. Great reaction btw.
these cats from Scotland definitely know how to put it down - Soul, Funk and R&B like you're supposed to and have no shame whatsoever about they game fa' sho'!
And Scottish😎
The best black soul and R&B group of the 70's may just have been white!
These guys are part of the “boomers” that the people make fun of today. I know you have heard the boomer jokes. My parents were baby boomers, actually very enlightened people.
@Reaction Theory 2.0 - No, they sound like the Average White Band!!!
Check out "Queen of my Soul also!
Check out their Person To Person live album
Schoolboy Crush by them is aural sex. Your reaction cracks me up because it’s like you’re watching dogs talk or something😂😂

Pick up the Pieces big hit
Try Queen of My Soul and Work To Do AWB
See i hate when we do that, they sound like Average White Band! They dont sound like anyone else. We don't do that with Black bands, so we shouldn't do it to White ones either. Everyone had a unique sound back then and so did they
@SkammLykelee
2 жыл бұрын
They called themselves that because they knew they were unlike any other white band out there. There wete a few white bands with soulful leads, like Blood, Sweat & Tears, but these dudes took it to another level.
Rerun you cracking up I'm just calling you rerun come on now you learn the jams from your parents
Right nothing average about this band
The studio version is infinitely better. Gets right to the song. The sax intro meanders too long and then the song’s outro, unlike the studio version where Hamish Stuart does some of his best-ever singing, gets short-shrift. The group normally improved or advanced their songs. Not this time.
Its nothing to do with colour your either good or bad
Really I thought they were black
"I've never heard of Average White Band".. then crawl out of your cave, you might continue to be amazed.
